Saw this on TSF today...........For all you Trekkies out there..........Don't turn this into a Hyperdesk 'bashing' thread, please. We went through that little immature debacle a few months ago. Just admire the creativity and even if you don't use Hyperdesk just admire the art work, cool icons and there's a free media player remote too.

Based on the look of the bridge control panels...
Base is black laquer. All the control panels are high gloss glass. Buttons reside on the panel. The 3 buttons you see on the titlebar are triangular buttons like you see Uhuru press only more saturated so they pop off the screen. I got the idea after i spoke to Mike Okuda (the creator of ST:TNG LCARS) for a hour.
It's been got ...
Jafo gets lazy with grammar
Spill it Jafo. I don't remember what the deal with the rabbit was. I think i'm going to watch Mad Max while i work...
By the way, Jeff, the name you were trying to recall earlier was Miriku, King of Custo (after it died and everyone left), famous for claiming everyone was wrong in any debate because his parents worked in that field (to the point where we all made jokes about his parents not being able to hold a job for more than a day).
ahh yeh Miriku Chan? Was it? He was relentless. Brad and I use to get into some flame threads with him. I think Brad has it bookmarked because he sent it to me awhile back.
Classic: http://customize.org/Miriku%20chan
Bob Green is his real name? Doesn't sound as tough I guess. Inactive for 10 years.
I guess we win.
He got all uptight [as did many others there] re skinning for money....the actual commercial side of the game.....crossed swords with Pixtudio back then....and probably came to regret it....
Shog posted this back in 2000 ....I always remembered it as it relates to skins/art and moderation/opinion...
A parable:A shogun commissions an artist to make for him an ink drawing of a rooster. The artist agrees to the price, states that it will take 20 years to produce the perfect rooster, and that he will return.20 years pass. The artist arrives at the Shogun's, unrolls a sheet of paper, sets up a pot of ink & brush. Closes his eyes for a minute, and picks up the brush. It takes him 15 seconds and only 5 strokes of the brush to produce the perfect rooster. The Shogun is enraged; "If it only takes you 15 seconds, why did you waste 20 years of my life?" and beheads the artist. The shogun sends his minister to bring the artist's body back to his family (he had, after all, produced the rooster, albeit in insulting fashion). When the minister arrived, he found the artist's house filled from floor to ceiling with ink renderings of roosters, dating from 20 years ago to today.IE, he had practiced over & over & over until he could produce the perfect rooster in such easy fashion, to best fulfill the shogun's desires.
Yeh it was him, Bakerstreet, Shoggot, Shoggot's love monkey... 10c
I ended up working with the best at some point back then. iST, Precurser, $teven, Vindicator, and a few others. Roman and Lowen are from the k-jofol days. Both were Groomsmen at my wedding. I worked with misery. A few really good Sonique skinners who i can't remember their names.
That was actually interesting. Pretty deep for such a thick head.
Bob Green is likely fake, much the same way my "real name" was sometimes Estuego Videa, considering the era.
I don't remember Miriku as a serious participant in any debates, he was mainly the comic relief with the whole parent thing and not backing anything up. The heavy hitters I remember were Shoggot, Brad, and myself (there were of course others, but memory gets fuzzy after well over a decade passes, and we three were by far the most prolific and verbose... I remember the complaints we'd get due to writing so much per post that we'd fill the memory and hardlock lower-spec computers)
Miriku kicked it up. There was one time with Brad and I that I remember. I think Treetog was involved too.
Some interesting old school links for Shoggot.

Legends never die they just end up in forums as fodder.
From Shoggot's Interview:
13. Any favourite skinners?
Too many to count, & I'm sure I'll unintentionally insult someone via their (unintended) exclusion, but here goes nothin': Dangeruss, Xcaponius, $teven, Bronze, Frogboy, DAK, Goran, Prodey, Misery, Fli7e, Mercury, tierne, darknegative, cough, pixelphreak, iST, precurser, doodle, firefly6, weezerfreak, webba, B0XXi, etype, lorenela, nug, kig, fathom, aznromeo, morph, nu||, praxxis, kali, grymmjack, matrix, dmer, tin omen, funk311, vindicator, bakerstreet, tananda, the list goes on... I know I missed a ton of folks.
I worked with Xcaponius, Bronze, doodle, fathom, kig (many times actually) and i think Morph. God i miss those early days. It was so much fun. I remember i art directed 18 skinners at once for the 30 skin WMP 7 launch for Microsoft. Ess you did 1 or 2 of those. One was called Main Street right?
Lorenela was a cutie if memory serves me.
oh lord! it say that his last reply was 39 years ago????
Well ess-vid this is your life...
I just so happen to have the skin you did for me back in 1999.
I present ByteAudio SkinWerkz's Main Street Created by ess-vid: http://www.theskinsfactory.com/tsf-clients/Main%20Street.wmz
Designed for Microsoft for the launch of Windows Media Player 7.
now that's old..., i at that moment i was like in a apocaliptic atitud....
Here's a Windows Media Player 7 skin also done for me back in 1999 by Bronze. This is 10 years old and still looks better than 95% of the skins being produced today for WMP:
This is how you can tell a good artist. There is no alpha transparency but he did such a good job you can hardly see any jagged edges on the side pieces.
Wow, hasn't this thread taken off since I was here last... and in some ways, not for the better.
Anyhow....
Doc: Just to clarify things here. Given that the msstyles patch is fairly generic and therefore would not have a dedicated customer support area, I said that it may have been TGTSoft who failed your friend regarding customer support.... given that many of its customers, even before it closed its doors, were complaining about the lack of support, etc.
TSF Jeff: I've not seen or heard of similar complaints about the Hyperdesk platform, nor do I know enough about it to comment on it... and thus didn't. So please do not think that I was comparing your skinning engine to the msstyles hack, which can be obtained for free on just about any freeware site and is largely supportless. They are obviously two entirely different kettles of fish.
However, being that you're in the business of skinning rather than software development/distribution, that is not the point I wanted to address. I am an admirer of your work and would like to see a TSF return to Windowblinds because that is the platform I have and can not see affording the additional cost of the Hyperdesk platforn and skins for quite some time. I know that you say there is no avenue for you to sell your works this way, but have you considered the possibility of selling them as master skins/themes here at WC?
I don't know all the criteria involved to be able to sell master skins here, but TSF makes quality skins and it has been a community contributor for quite some time, so it may well be worth looking into. OK, so you have your differences with some folk here, and vice versa, but surely that's irrelevant when compared to the added exposure and potential sales.
I would have to get "de-exiled" first. I'm not posting under this noob account
I'd have to talk to Brad about the split. i think they split it 50/50 which means i wouldn't do any 3rd party licensed themes since i have to give the 3rd party a cut. They would be priced the same anyway so whether you bought it here or at our place the price would still be the same and every theme comes with the software to use it so you don't need anything else - except yahoo! Widgets which is free. So it's not costing you any less as a master skin. I wouldn't just sell the theme without the rest.
Heh well I was talking mainly on the forum side, the skinning side I remember quite a bit of those names.
I did four skins for the initial WMP7 project (I was originally contracted for two, but had to pinch hit for two other slots due to two others unable to meet deadline). They were Main Street, Club America, Executive, and HardLine. IIRC I was also contracted to code a couple others since the format was a little obtuse for non-programmers. I also remember a great deal of those initial skins were based on the underlying code by AznRomeo and myself.
The nightmare project, though, was the Doobie Brothers skin by Roman and myself. less than 48 hours to produce a pro-grade skin. With you "managing" (read as "having a full on panic attack") the thing.
More than you know. I laugh when someone points out a "older than you on WinCustomize!" forum post on IRC. I predate WinCustomize. Hell, I predate StarDock as a Windows ISV (at least publicly, I remember the talk of "that new company with the beta window skinning app"). I've been around long enough to remember when Skinz.org was themed like Slashdot.
I didn't know about that, hopefully it can be resolved happily.
There would obviously be details to sort out/refine, and that's not always clear cut or easy, but it seems that you haven't outright rejected the idea, and for that I'm pleased. However, it's not about me or what I want, as my finances do not permit the purchase of master skins/themes at tis time, but about making TSF's quality skins available tto a wider audience, which would be a win win situation for TSF and its fans/customers.. whether those skins be HyperDesk, MyColors and/or WindowBlinds based.
Finances, however, aren't always going to be this tight, so yeah, I'd be in the market to purchase those TSF themes I like in the near future. Now while you say there is no reason why Hyperdesk and WB can't run together, that elements of HyperDesk can be unchecked, I don't know that I'd want to run 2 skinning engines at the same time (resource usage, etc), so it would be an either or situation for me, and I kind of like the bells and whistles that come with WB. HG Eliminator also said that he would rather see an official TSF theme with all the trimmings than an unofficial port that's lacking, so I'm not alone there, and I'm sure there are others.
It is, of course, entirely your perogative to market your themes as you see fit, and I can understand your position, having adopted the Hyperdesk platform and wishing to remain with it, but at the same time, admirers of your work who purchased their Stardock based apps prior to this are now missing out on TSF themes they may otherwise purchase as WB/IP skins... hence the suggestion.
Anyhow, all the best with it and good luck.
Using or not using alpha transparency has absolutely nothing to do with the end result of a skin. It's all about a thought through design and graphical talent. If an artist is talented in BOTH those areas, he/she WILL produce awesome skins, regardless of what features are available. More features open up more possibilities, it does NOT make a bad skinner any better...
You can tell a good artist by the work, not by the tools he/she use.
