I have to ask, with all the work these guys have put into making some really killer looking starbases.. why would anyone WANT to play it with just Vanilla Sins???
Well, for those of us who doesn't have the beta build, vinalla seems to be pretty good, and they probably don't have entrenchment
Hey everyone first post. I love Star trek, and was estatic when I saw a Star trek mod. However I have encountered a problem. I have downloaded the SOA2 mod via winzip and I am lost at what to do next. I thought I was doing it right, because this is my second attempt at downloading, but appearantly I'm not because I just had to unistall Sins and reinstall it. I know Entrenchment is not affecting the download because on this computer I don't have it. So can anyone help walk me through the mod installation step by step using winzip?
jdunbar,
the 0.3c is for vanilla sins only and should be extracted to the mods-v1.17 folder assuming you have sins 1.17if you are on an older sins then it is to go in the respective mods-v folder, then activate the mod
harpo
0.03c does work for sins 1.17. You need to delete the mods galaxy folder (if it has one). AFAIK the only thing changed for 1.17 was ship stats that have nothing to do with any of the mod files. I have not run a dev exe test of it yet. Remember we dont support 0.03c anymore. However 0.03c is all we got until we can get 0.03e ready. Which is taking forever for us to do because of the sheer amount of work involved.
OK, I have to ask... what happened to 0.03d???
Thanks I finally figured out the problem. The file was hidden, lol. I was so lost looking for the mods-v1.17 folder, it finally clicked to go to folder oprions and then undhide any hidden folder. Thanks guys for all the help.
What letters of the words "SoA 2 0.03c will be the last version of the mod for vanilla sins" that is right there on the main topic did you not understand? There never was a "D". We jumped straight into entrenchment after 0.03c. The "e" in 0.03e stands for entrenchment. Once we get the romulans and dominion in (with structures, and research) it will be 0.04. Then we will start the letter updates over to fix whatever is wrong with the 0.04 series. Where the mod goes from there will depend on two things. One if we are even still interested in finishing the mod, and Two how much we will have to re-work after the 3rd expansion of sins is released. The 3rd expansion is supposed to deal with diplomacy. So all you "the federation are peacemakers" types may have something to look forward to.
The final builds of the mod are schedualed for the 0.05 series. Which are nothing more than art re-working. Model, and texture re-builds/fix's, and very minor gameplay tweaks. All of the gameplay aspects of the mod should be finished by then. My goal is to lose all of the placeholder 3rd party work, and replace it with our own models and textures.
I know that 03c is no longer supported but I had to ask for some advice. I cant get it running. I always get crash and minidump. And yes, I try it without entrechmentm on v.17 sins. Thanks in advance
aurelius_x the standard advice is to delete the galaxy folder in the mod, then it will run on its own
You mean in the mod folder? Or that one in application data/ironclad games/sins? I removed that but it just wont work.
yes that is the standard advice
Well, standart advice didnt help me. So I have just wait for 0.3e comes out?
Hello,
I'm sorry to ask this since it seems to be somewhat of a sore topic, but I would like to try out the SoA2 0.03c mod. I realize it is no longer supported, but the other topic seems to be dead, so I thought I would inquire here. I downloaded and extracted the mod, opened it up to look for a read-me file, and to my surprise there was none. Therefore I have no idea how to install it. (A wild guess of simply putting it in the mods folder and activitating it in game changed the music and pictures, but nothing else.)
Is the read-me hosted somewhere else? Is it possible for someone to post the read-me here or post a link to it somewhere else? With my terrible internet connection it took over 3 hours to download the mod, not including updating my version of sins to the newest (old) version, 1.17, so I am reluctant to try and download it again. (I read on the other topic it still worked with that version.)
Thanks in advance,
Dnmolenaar
dnmolenaar, it the music changed then the mod is active and you can choose the different races like klingon, dominion, federation etc when starting a map/game
Oops!
I was indeed able to choose those races, but when I started a game and saw the same structures, assembly ship, and research screens as original sins I feared that it had not worked. I take it that this is normal?
I played a bit more and was able to build star-trek ships. I guess I should have given it a bit more time.
Thanks for the reply, I wasn't expecting one so fast.
There should have been a readme in the mod folder. Sorry if it was not there. i didnt upload that version.
I just did a full test of 0.03c in sins 1.17 with developer exe. Other than some minor errors that pop up (mostly string) the mod works fine. No dumps.
To instal in Windows XP place the SoA2 0.03c folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\"Your User Name"\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-v1.17
For Vista users C:\Users\"Your User Name"\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-v1.17
Note: You will have to enable "show hidden files and folders" in windows folder options to see some of these files.
In my version there was no galaxy folder to begin with. If you have a galaxy folder in the soa2 0.03c mod folder delete it.
When you extract the mod make sure there are not TWO instances of an SoA 2 0.03c folder. Sometimes winzip or winrar will create a duplicate folder inside the main folder, and extract the contents there. Just move the contents into the primary soa2 0.03c folder and delete the duplicate folder. THIS has been the main cause of crashes so far. the duplicate folder issue.
Like i said i did a full test in dev.exe, other than minor string errors there were no issues and the mod worked fine.
Yeah,2.03c works fine with 1.17,no problems at all, been playing it for the past few days
BORG HAVE BEEN UPDATED !!! BETA TESTERS PLEASE TEST AND REPORT BACK . ANY BUGS THANKS
I gotta say, I love this mod
Can't wait for the new version! I'm itchin to do some assimilating
Its great to hear that it is still progressing... BTw, any word on the Rommlies, and the dominion, even if they are still in the preliminary stage...
how close is this to being fiished or beta released??
eiher way great job sofar guys
TBH i really dont know when its going to be done. It is hardly even my mod anymore. I have been too busy working to do anything with the mod. I am lucky to have time to post on the boards. Nobody has heard from Darkshimmer in weeks. I think loki is the only one doing any kind of work on the mod right now, and that is only on the borg. Needless to say any new release is going to take a long time. The closest prediction will be the end of the summer (sept/oct) when i can finally have free time to sit down and do something with this. Nothing looks familiar to me now. All the new mod scripting is totally different, and ive been out of the loop so long that it is all greek to me now. This is why we keeped 0.03c online, because i had a feeling the entrenchment conversion was going to be a major pain to do. What we need finished is the tech tree's, the structures finished for the current factions, and the ships re-balanced because of the "fighter" movement.
The Romulans, and Dominion wont be in 0.03e. They arent even close to being ready.
In this version now, is it possible to take down that Borg cube in the pirates nest... I threw everything at it, and it regenerated so fast, I got no where fast.
I hope the Borg in the version being developed now isn't that strong.
When i started this project i had a certain vision. I wanted the mod to be just like SoA1 for homeworld, but on a grand strategic scale. Emphasis on the Strategic. This is why i provided SoA1 to the developers, and beta testers. So you could see what i had in mind. The goal was to try to keep it looking as SoA1 as possible, but not compromising on the gameplay aspect. Things have taken a very downward spiral since 0.03 was released. I have mentioned my disagrements with how the mod is shaping up, but they have for the most part been ignored. The mod now plays like a perverted version of Bridge Commander. Complete with ships that zip all over the map at ridiculous speeds, and weapons that instapop ships in one, or two volleys. The ships zip around so much now that you cant select them on the map. You have to use the empire tree, or have them all grouped before you start a fight. 100+ ship battles are over in seconds. There is no control. Just unleash the ships, let them have at it, and pray your side wins. That is NOT my idea of strategy. I think it is pretty safe to say the gameplay is now compromised. The weapon effects have taken a downward spiral as well. The pulse weapons now all look the same except they are different colors. This was the replacements for the original weapons pack i had. Which IMO looked far better. I have repeatedly said to lose the "rainbow warrior" colored shields. They look stupid! Yet they remain. If i wanted to play "Bridge Commander" i would have just re-installed it. Yet that is exactly what SoA 2 is turning into... Bridge Commander. Complete with its bad effects. WTF happened? Where the hell is my mod?!
I guess that is the price i had to pay for recieving help with SoA 2. Accept what others wanted in it. Give in to the "canon nuts", and the "fanboy's". Who cares if its balanced, or not. Who cares if it looks stupid, or not. Unfortunetly it seems the condition was to recieve the help was that it had to be thier way, or no way. They would quit the mod if it wasn't done thier way. If i rejected something i didnt like then they would quit the mod. Hindsight being 20/20 i should have just let them quit, and save myself the headache i am about to go through with re-building the entire mod from scratch ALONE. I should have done it alone from the start.
I said before many times that i am not doing this project for you guys. I am doing it for ME. I just happened to be sharing it with you. I am not going to let myself be held hostage by the "fanboy's" here. If the mod gets done then it will get done. MY WAY. If not then oh freaking well.. Get a life, and go find something else to play with.
SoA 2 team I thank you for what help you did provide, but your services are no longer required. In other words YOU'RE FIRED. I will finish SoA 2 myself. MY WAY. The way it should have been done.
There will be no 0.03e release. The entire project from this day forth is getting scrapped as an abismal failure. I will rebuild the entire mod from scratch when i get the free time to do so at the end of the summer.
Sorry guys. You will just have to wait a bit longer for a new release.
