Woa, woa, woa. What's who's favorite trek should be off limits on a Development thread. Its like polotics, everyone has an opinion, no one will agree.
Ah, SFB! I played that way back in the early 1980s off and on through ~2000, and still have all the assorted SSDs, maps, rules, etc in my attic. I had a great group of folks who used to have wild free-for-alls and great campaigns. I loved the Kzinti (SFB borrowed the Kzin from Niven’s Known Space – don’t ask me how). But, it got stale, and then it got really stupid, which Mini Max ships that blow everything else away, and endless freighters and useless variants. Ack.
Still, it is a good game. But, sadly, a dead game.

The most advanced faction depended on who was writing the episode at the time. One week it would be the feds next the dominion then the breen. Yada yada, and so on.
From my point of view the Feds, and Dominion are about equal as far as tech goes. Dominion had the advantage for a while. The Feds have an uncanny ability to adapt to almost any threat... just like the borg. Next would be the Klingons, and Cardassians. Again they are about equal. Both being martial society's thier strength is in numbers, and the ability to build cheap but effective warships.
Romulans are not really as advanced as thought. Thier ships are about as combat worthy as the klingons. Except there are not as many of them. The cloak is thier only saving grace. While the Klingons have cloak as well they dont use it like the romulans do. Since it is dishonerable to hide from a fight. The DDeridex a big ship went down way too easily in most episodes. The "bigger is better" theory obviously didnt work in the dominion war. The valdore got pasted in just a few shots. The romulans really specialize in covert ops. In the mod the romulans "corrected" the dominion war setbacks. The DDeridex will be as powerful as she is supposed to be, and wont go down to a few jemmy bugs
Trek XI definetly had quite a few "flaws". Biggest one was 8 billion vulcans dead, Vulcan destroyed, and no one does anything to try and fix it. Especially spock prime who of all people would know how to fix it. Nobody seemed to give a damn except young spock. Of course we know the real reason why the timeline is remaining....reboot. Then the new big-e herself being bigger than the prime universe galaxy class (fx scaling errors of the shuttle bay and engineering). Delta vega relocating from the edge of the galaxy to become a moon of of the late vulcan.. which also just happens to be a class M world. Also if vulcan was sucked into a black hole...um wouldnt delta vega be destroyed as well since it was in such close proximety? (thrown out of orbit...gravity wave? or some other technobabble), and how was it that scotty knew nothing about vulcans demise being right there as well? Dont get me started on the "brewery" engineering section (complete with concrete floor) with convienient "escape hatch's" just in case some idiot beamed into the coolant pipes.
Romulan civilian mining ships with enough firepower to take on a TNG era starship..hmmm Perhaps the Narada should have been on the front lines in the dominion war. She sure took quite a bit of punishment.. rammed by 2 ships, and stayed pretty much in 1 piece.
Red matter..... Sigh
Galaxy spanning supernova in the late 24th century.... Perhaps it wasnt a supernova at all. It was the incomming PARADOX that wiped out the timeline as we knew it.
I could go on and on but there really is no point. Whats done is done. It wasnt a "bad" movie, but all the little "flaws" are really beginning to stick out now.
What killed SFB for me was the relentles carrier, and PF spam. Along with the ridiculous fan additions.
Yes lets get back on topic guys.
This was explained in the comic mini-series that was a pre-face to the movie.
The Narada was retro-fitted with experimental Romulan weaponry and defenses designed to fight the Borg.
Why do we need a comic to fill in the movie's plotholes? Shouldn't a movie stand on its own without requiring any other material?
When watching Hollywood production, turn brain off.
Movies are awesome once you do that.
Stress, one of the reasons I liked the movie so much, was that it did make the flaws where TOS would have made the flaws. I can't begrudge it that.
Either way, I'm excited about this mod. Each new tidbit of information continues to have me silently begging for more tidbits, or a new movie here and there. I'm most anxious to see the movement of the ships in its "corrected" form.
I'm pretty sure everyone will like the new fighter style movements. Kudos to Shimmer for taking the movements from good looking but buggy to awesome and well done.
All this talk of the Trek XI ruining the franchise and it not being canon etc etc etc
My response is that its done something very special in rebooting the franchise, so that a new generation will be interested in star trek and will in turn want to see the old TOS, TNG, DS9 series' etc .... something which would die out very quickly had Trek XI not worked.
Sure the film has its issues, its not perfect, but i thought it was a great movie, not just for trek fans but the wider audience, which is what it needed to be. I think people need to stop moaning about it and accept that star trek isn't owned by the hardcore old school trek fans, but is something everyone deserves to enjoy. The new film has kept the flame alive and will hopefully evolve the franchise for the new generation of fans; not all current fans will like it, but then again lots of TOS fans hated TNG and the later shows when they first came out, but without them we wouldnt have had star trek today.
TOS was of course great and the start of star trek but it was by no means the best of star trek, that came later on.
OK, first off, the federation Starbase is SWEET!!! Very nice attention to detail! Have you built the Cardassion starbase yet? PLEASE tell me it looks like Terok Nor (DS9)!!
As for favorite Treks... I'll leave that alone. However, I would like to say something about my favorite episode, because in this case it applies to the Mod. My personal favorite, and arguably the best "edge of your seat" episode of any of the Treks is the original "Doomsday Machine" from the original series. Guys, I was like 7 when it first aired, and it scared the bat-snot out of me!!! To this day I think episodes like TNG's "Best of Both Worlds" and Voyagers "Scorpion" are just trying to match "Doomsday Machine".
Anyway, the reason I bring it up is I was wondering if you might consider making a "Doomday Machine" for the Mod later down the road. And maybe some other more memorable oddball alien ships from different episodes (Like the Vulcans or Tholiens). Maybe not make them buildable, but something to give the different planatary militia's on the uncolonized worlds. Something to add a nice surprise here or there.
The other thing I thought of is has anyone thought of converting the Pirates into the Orion Syndicate? If it's already being done then I missed it.
I never said Trex XI was a bad movie. I saw it twice, and i did like how it was presented. Much better than anything the killer B's could have done. It just has some "flaws", and what star trek doesnt have flaws no matter what era it is in.
We really need to get off the which trek is better subject now.
The doomsday machine would be to much of a pain to add, because it would have to be in one of the pirate spawns. Besides any TNG era ship can paste it in a few shots. The original connie was only about 1/100th as powerful as a galaxy class (or 1/10th depending on who wrote the episode of the week).
For now we are sticking with our primary factions. That is not to say we wont add some race of the week later on, but we need to get what we got done so far balanced, and working right first. Remember 0.03e wont have the romulans or dominion. We also are down in manpower because of RL.
Of course Nor station will look like Nor station. What did you think we were gonna do? put in a sparrow, and call it a duck?
I think he ment will Nor have a role of starbase not a ore processing plant or something else
Exactly. I haven't read any of the books, and sometimes I get the story lines mixed up. But it seemed to me the original Nor was a slave labor station or something like that, until the federation took it over. I don't remember any, but honestly I didn't know for sure if the Cardassions had any other space stations or not.
I understand about the Doomsday Machine. As for a "race of the week"... that'd be cool to add in now and then.
Nor station was slotted to be the trade station, and the much bigger Orbital Complex (seen in a few ep's) will be the cardie starbase.
NO the cardie stations wont be all powerful like DS-9 was. remember the feds worked the station over for a few years before the klingon, and dominion fleet battles. The station still failed in the dominion assault despite it damn near being "uber-ized" IMO the way the station was armed was a little ridiculous.
Oh yeah, I remember the Episode where the Klingons ( think it was them) were going to invade DS9; except it had already been refitted for the Borg. Didn't it have something like 150+ photon Torpedo bays that fired like a rotating gattling gun sort of thing??? Yeah, I think thats just a bit overbuffed for the game...lol.
I don't remember the Cardassion Oribital Complex off the top of my head. But judging from the screenshots you guys have posted, I'm betting it'll be cool!
I am gessing it will be this:

wow!!!
I dunno, it looks kinda like the Cardie starbase from Armada 2.
prolly is. Say what you will, they at least tried for canon when they could (at least regarding classes). They just filled in the rest with shit.

Just gessing this will be the starbase not shure Yes the station is similar to that seen in Armada but not the same. This can be seen in that episode when Dominion is instaling Breen damping weppons on their ships. I think it is a perfect choise for starbase. Its lot larger than the Nor. These little hangars on docking rings house Hideki attack craft so you can imagine how large it is
Do you plan to inpliment some kind of weppons on other stations? Example Nor trade station will have few phasor banks for some degree of defence?
Hi. I was wondering that can someone tell me does this mod work with sins 1.17 patch?
If you read the top, the team isn't going to do it for 1.17
I believe the currently released version, 0.03c, does. Not totally sure on that though as I haven't touched standard sins since entrenchment came out.
