Also, if you need help doing the actually code, i would mind to put in some time. only seems reasonable that i would return some help after enjoying v0.01-0.03c.
I would be more than happy to take a look at the enitity files, im no graphic artist, but i can definately help with the code.
Contact Darkshimmer, and see what he needs done. He is our resident code monkey. My role is the artwork, and models. Thank you. Finally, some legit offers for help
Anyone doing work for free can be as big an asshole as he wants to be. If he broad brushes you, deal with it.
Nah, I don't agree with that.
Fact is - you want to release a mod (or game even) for public use, expect some backlash.
It's the whole PR/Customer/etc thing dealy.
The PR/Customer thing only applies if they are selling a product. Since they are not, it is completely within their right to not pander to the masses. The public can either accept it, and move on, or don't accept it and leave. I'm pretty sure they don't care what freeloading kids think of them or their mod; they're doing it for themselves, they just happen to be releasing the fruits of their labour to the public as well.
Nope, the product they are buying is a game called Sins, because to play the Startrek mod or any mod you need sins to do so.
So not only you have the modders modding the game, but the developer/publisher who make the game and support it after it's release to the public.
PR/Customer is right in their ally, the so called freeloading kids as you call it are Ironclad/Stardock clients.
EDIT:
And While I thought I might edit this post, I don't condone any sort of behavor during mods being made (i.e. PM to the modders etc - wanting to be a tester etc), there are some people think that you should release the mod regardless of being balanced - like the last one in original sins.
Thanks Shimmer, I wasn't going to say anything as I haven't porogressed far enough to contribute anything yet.
Np Stress, it didn't bother me lol.
Everyone who thinks Major Stress is being grumpy or w/e, he has reason to be after a year+ of the same comments and suggestions, and little to no help to show for it. Also to all the silent ones, he wasn't talking about you. So, let's move on.
If you have some skills to contribute, I'm sure you'll be welcomed.
Everyone else, please just wait patiently for the next release, we're seriously trying to fix crashes by taking shots in the dark without the DEV.
Hmm, I concede it never actually occurred to me that people would buy Sins specifically for the mod. But even so, that shouldn't have any bearing on Major Stress personally; he doesn't work for Ironclad and therefore has no stake in the matter.
Did I ever said anything about Major working for Ironclad or anything like that? No!
Modding a game doesn't automaticly make you resillent to your fanbase (including alienating them).
If you look at what Startrek games modders have done over the years for Star Trek games (say Chris Jones for example), people still play those games.
And while we thank the modders for their efforts and time in doing things, a little bit of professional attitude goes along way I think.
As I said before, most of the time they are gamers, you can't expect everyone to know abit of modding, even I know just a little bit (changing stuff here and there).
In regards to buying sins for a mod, you'd be surpised.
There is a big Star Trek fanbase out there waiting for a proper game to mod and to play it.
1st im not always trying to be an ass... Situation, and certain people step on my last nerve sometimes. Im not a PR type of guy. I tell things as they are, and how i see it. If that is being an ass then... oh well.
Im not selling anything here. If i was then we would be knee deep in cease, and desist letters from Paramount. Nor am i promoting Sins itself. The mod team are nothing more than hobbyist gathered to make a mod. For us. On our free time. For FREE. We just happen to be sharing it with you guys. Nothing more, nothing less. No alterior motives. We do this because we like to do it. Not because we 'have" to do it.
Anyways i would like to introduce a new member of the SoA 2 team.. Some of his work is already in the mod. Like the D-4, and L-24. Another old school SFC modeller like me.. Atrahasis. Welcome aboard.
Hey crowd,
I've known Stresspuppy for years now, and he just recruited me to do a Romulan base. Expect greatness!
Yeah sorry Major, I know how it feels to not be a PR type
Just seeing it from the other end
Alrahasis1, congrads on the promotion and welcome to the forum and all that
Welcome aboard
Hey, and welcome. I'm looking forward to trying to break whatever new toys you give us lol.
Glad to see some more to the crew Atrahasis1. I can't wait to see what you have in mind (artistically) for the Romulans.
Well probably a lot of Grey and Green, well atleast, thats what Garak said when it came to the Rommies
Bah green writing should be for the BORG ! so HA ill be a different shade of green !
anyway welcome to the team - and to those that have added me on msn thanks will make bug hunting somewhat faster
I am aiming to get ALL of the borg ships in TODAY at somepoint (note the borg LRM + New scout + new borg epic ship + new borg capital) will arrive soon
Once the ships are in i will then focus on readding the borg stations etc + starbases, then will come the abilities and tech trees
Hey guys,
Thanks for the compliments! OK, here's the deal, I have to install a parallel port card today. What a pain in the ass! I don't know if any of you have come across it, but my copy of lightwave comes with a "Software lock". Stupid sort of parallel port connector. And it it isn't attached, the program doesn't work. Nifty for keeping lightwave from being pirated, but not if you have a new HP maching with NO parallel ports!
Oh well, I have a Parallel port PCI whatever card supposed to compatible with Vista, I can install later today, then I just need a few minutes (hours?) to remind myself where everything is. Thank the gods I've saved all my reference books. FYI, lightwave isn't tht hard, but there's a LOT of stuff you can do...lol.
OK, somewhere here you said for me to do a capital ship? Any in particular? Or something that hasn't been done yet? Name the ship and I'll see what I can do.
Oh, and Stress, no apologies, explanations, whatever needed brother. I'm always one of the first to lose it when people start bugging me. I probably have a shorter fuse than you. It's all good
Hi people.
I am new to Sins. So I don't know much, but from looking at the previous Star trek mod, it looks great...
Nice to hear that this mod is going. I am just wondering, I have some free time myself and good at coding, I am just wondering if you need coders.
If you think you can code then contact Darkshimmer. Show him what you can do. He is the guy in charge of weapons, script, and balance. If he is cool with you then i will be too.
Just-Jim.. Because i got another veteran modeler on the team shouldnt shut you out if you can provide us with some of the extra stuff we need. We can always use good meshers. I assume you can UV-map, and create textures as well? The plan is after we get the gameplay aspects set in stone is for ALL of the models in SoA 2 to get a major re-build/overhaul in a later update. So yes modelers are definetly welcome. PM me with yer MSN and we will talk.
We had a nice MP test today. Unfortunetly my crap internet was not up to the task, and i wound up dropping. Sorry Shimmer, and Tenhunter
What little i did play ran great with no dumps or glitches other than usual net lag. So you MP guys are in for a treat.
Atrahasis designed an awesome Romulan starbase. He got the go to build it with some minor changes. That is another step towards us losing the 3rd party work, and replacing it with our own
Stress... cool! I'm having a bit of a problem here getting this damned card to work. It's perfectly "Vista Compatible", so of course my system doens't want to recognize it... Grumble!!! No biggie, just windows being a pain, I'll get it figured out here quick. Once I'm running I'll pm you about what you need done.
Please can the beta testers check the change log and report back
Roger, I'm on it.
Do you guys expect to release 0.03E anytime soon (and by that i mean a range from 1-2 weeks), because im just hoping we will get a release during the summer so we've got lots of time to play it.
We need to make sure it will work with the 1.03 patch 1st. Hopefully the new patch wont break the mods yet again.
I got a new klink station in today but im not happy with how the model is playing in game. I did everything right but still get wierd lighting on it (its got proper tangents, and all the textures are in correct places). You can see polys fading when you circle around station, you cant see any bump mapping even though it has a normal map (in the correct line in the mesh file) all alphas are correct as well. i would hate to have to trash this and start over.
anyways heres a shot
