This Topic is now Closed. A new SoA 2 WIP thread will be started in its place. Do Not Post here.
can you guys can give my beta acses to another person who wants it? i'm living in 4 days and will not be able to play for 3 months so at this time i will be usless.
If the list isn't too long I'd join up.
I've just about finished college and I'd like help.
Yes it is getting ridiculous that everyone and thier mother is requesting to join the beta. Despite us saying we dont need testers a post or two above them. We know the real reason they want to join is so they can get thier hands on an early release of the mod. They do not know that beta testing SoA 2 is not as it seems, and can be a major pain in the @$$.
The main topic has been edited. STOP ASKING TO JOIN THE BETA- Major Stress
Sorry to see you go xhenia. but we are not going to fill your slot. We still have more than enough testers to achieve our goals. Good luck on your travels.
All current beta testers need to get MSN, or live messenger, and share your contact info with the SoA2 dev's. We need ways to directly communicate with you. PM the SoA2Team with your info.
I am rebuilding the borg from scratch !
The problems we are having now are because we do not have a developer exe for entrenchment 1.02. So we really dont know if what we are changing is causing problems or not because we dont get any error messeges. Sins is pretty forgiving as far as minor errors and will continue to run despite those errors, but run up too many, and blammo dump city.
WE NEED A DEV.EVE!
Relax. A new patch is coming next week and Blair has promised new dev .exe's to be released the day the patch is out.
Really? You're going to trash talk guys who are offering to help? You don't have to refer to us as "they", we're right here.
I'm sorry you saw us as impatient, greedy freeloaders.
Yikes.
Everyone must understand that making a mod of this caliber is both time consuming and stressfull. All anyone asks is READ THE PREVIOUS POSTS BEFORE POSTING THE SAME STUPID QUESTIONS OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
I saw that when I logged on today . I still am not quite so sure it's the Borg abilities, but like Major Stress says we don't know for sure because none of us can play the game using a developer .exe (the latest one I got is for 1.0.1). I hadn't recieved a minidump in the 4 games that I had played at that time, but I don't know maybe it's just something I wasn't doing that everyone else was.
SOA2Team, thanks for putting that at the top. Maybe it will help deter people from asking the same question over and over again, but probably not (most newcomers won't go back and re-read the 23 pages of posts, let alone the original one).
Don't take too much offense from it salemonz. He's not referring to a single individual but the majority of the newcomers who just come in and the first thing they do is ask if they can join beta without even so much as reading the entire post. It could be worse, they could treat you like they did Mooster (but he kinda deserved it after a while).
Just be patient and content with the 0.03c version for now. Though the ship combat movement looks fantastic, it's not what makes or breaks this mod IMO. The beautifully detailed textures, fact that there are Star Trek ships, and endless scenarios you can have pitting factions against eachother makes the game far more enjoyable than that fact alone.
By nature most people, especially kids ARE impatient, greedy, freeloaders. Sure there are "some" good people out there, but the majority i see do not paint a pretty picture.
Example: When i repeately asked for help over the 2 years during this mod was in progress. ONLY Darkshimmer, and LokiGodOfMischief answered the call. The majority of PM's i got consisted of something like these... "Oh i cant model, but if you let me dl the current version ill "playtest" it for you". Or "I cant script, model, or texture worth a damn, but i can sure suggest stuff, and tell you what to do to death". Or my favorette. "I cant mod myself, but but you NEED to add this childishly absurd unit to the mod". So this community has made it VERY loud, and clear that they do NOT want to help us with the mod. They just want us to build the mod for them. Thier way. Not our way. If you have not figured it out... Yes, i AM cynical, and i dont trust many people. Dont like it? hey, you know where the door is..
So kudos go to Darkshimmer, and Loki. All the rest of the "freeloaders" get the majors raspberry.
And YES i do belive the people asking to join the beta do NOT really want to help us. They just want to get thier hands on the latest version of the mod before everyone else does. Which is why if the SoA 2 dev team does not see any MSN, or windows live messenger contact info by ALL of our current beta testers soon then they will be dropped as Mooster was. Testers can PM Myself, Darkshimmer, or LokiGodofMischief, or all 3 of us to make sure we get it.
I am not trying to be harsh, just realistic. Some of our testers have given us valuable input. However, We have no web site. Nor do we want to have one. We have no private forum. Nor do we want one. This forum right now is the only medium to display the mod, and download it. As it should be. It is however not a good place to discuss about the beta's problems which "should" be discussed over messenger.
I feel your pain Stress. Myself and a few others have taken on a project of our own (unrelated to Star Trek or Sins), and we have our own forums. We have a kid over there that assumed he was part of the dev team and capable of making decisions just because we allowed him access to the forums. We made joining the forums by personal request or referral only for a while. When people (politely) requested to join the forums, this same kid took it upon himself to ask people what they had to "bring to the project." We wanted to filter out potential trolls, but welcome anyone who liked the idea of our project and would want to play it.
There's always someone who thinks they know best for someone else's project. Such is the nature of the beast that is modding/game development I guess. Imagine how much of that crap professional game devs have to tolerate. I've seen some pretty bad cesspools on official game forums. I guess the only difference is, that they get paid.
This wouldn't be the first mod where people just wanted to get their hands on a wip mod.
It's kind of normal that things tend to change pretty fast in the modding szene.
That's why i showed a bit of initative. Sorry if i made the wrong impression.
I pretty much agree with your statement Major Stress.
It's also hard to find a good modding team. I myselfe did pretty much of everything on my mod
befor someone joined in to help. Mostly it's because there are also some "i can't mod or do something else but i'm making a mod and need help" guys.
Understandable, unfortunately thats the way the gaming world is developing - much like the real world, so its unavoidable. But good luck with the mod! I havent played SoSE for a while(mainly due to EVE) but i'm really looking forward to this mod so good luck. And Kudos to being upfront with your opinions!
Lets not forget about Dragoon, He stepped up as well. o and no one on SoA2Team should be writing in green but me!!!!
Agreed, Majority of people are the ones who actually play the games, not mod the games...
(I agree with the Dev .exe too).
I wish I had the game 2 years ago so that I could have offered my help then Stress, but sadly enough I didn't even pick up a copy until April when it fell to a decent price (which as I said before, one of the only reasons I got the game was because of this mod).
My offer still stands that I would love to help you develop if you are in dire need of personnel. I have taken programming courses and worked a little bit with this games programming, but I have no formal background whatsoever. I am not asking you to give me a walkthrough, just that if you need another "code monkey" I'm here and willing to throw my lot in with ya.
As for getting Windows Live Messanger, I already have gotten an account and I will PM you with my information (as well as Loki and Shimmer).
Sorry, double post.
I dont have any experience with programming, its not my field. But i like SOE and think SOA 2 is an extremely good mod, not just for this game but for the trek community.
One point tho Major, you have to be careful not to tarnish everyone with the same brush. I have nothing to bring to the mod so i do not ask to join the team, or be a beta tester; BUT i check these boards on a daily basis, waiting for the new release. Dont speak so low of the community, because the silent majority like myself are not the ones who you speak so lowly of.
I was rather shocked by your post, as i have been with some previous ones, there are some idiots on this board who i understand make you mad, but we're not all like that, so dont presume that we are.
I have to agree with Carott. I rarely post, but I check the boards pretty much every day. I will admit that it's hard to be patient as this mod has been a long time coming and the beta testers seem to be having a great time playing it. I am a huge fan of your work, Stress, and I was around back when you were working alone asking for help. In fact, I have been checking regularly since before vanilla sins was even released and I recall you had some sort of team that fell apart. I would have loved to help back then if I had any computer skills, but navigating the internet and using my word processor are basically the extent of them. But that one time you did ask for input on the mod my friend Strikrr and I responded. We've also never asked to be a beta tester because we are dutifully complying with the rules. And we are certainly not children. Anyway, hopefully you now realize that you have many mature and grateful, if silent, fans.
guys please dont turn this in to a OMFG i did not get in to the beta or w/e flame war ... fyi i only joined the beta team a when i offered them help and ofc the borg stuff to include. But then kinda vanished for a while but rejoined the soa 2 when entrenchment came out and me and shimmer got it working for entrenchment while stress was away
i know some of you have offered to help and when i started on my borg one i got a lot of why do, you do this to death suggestions
quicktodraw or however is in the beta i am willing to set you off in modding sins and ofc atm i am the with the massive list of doing the research / the borg / and other general changes + making models etc etc so quick any help is appreciated + it iwll speed things up
Ouch... I think I walked in at a bad time.
Stress, I understand what you're saying, but alas I wasn't here when you guys started. However, I am now... what can I do to help?
I don't know what program you're modeling or texturing in, but I have an older copy of Lightwave (5.6) I can fire back up (assuming it works on Vista). Here's a couple pics of models I did about 4 years ago, before I got to busy to play with animating.
Guys, i don't know if I can help or not... but I'm sitting here with a half busted back andna lot of nothng to do. If there is someway I can help.. BESIDES Beta testing... then please let me know. I'd be glad to do what I can.
Thats some impressive models Just_jim
I agree nice models Just_jim
I thought Green was for the developers. OK, so ill write in RED from now on
Just Jim build some big capital ships (any kind dont matter the genre) lets see what u can do there. I am very impressed with what i see so far. Keep the models at 4000 tri's or under. That is sins standard.
testers that sent msn info expect invites soon. We have much to discuss.
Sorry i forgot to mention you Dragoon. I also need to mention Admiral Cobbs. He is the one who did the warp effect and fix some lighting issues.
Naw, he's always grumpy man, why do you think his screen name is Major Stress? Oh and BTW those are some impressive pics you got there, hey Major Stress, maybe you might have another person to work mesh textures with ya?
Sure Loki. I am rev'd up and ready to go, you just IM me what you want me to start working on and I'll see what I can't do. Thanks for giving me a chance and everything, hopefully all this new talk about more people coming will help reduce all of your teams burdens.
