A couple of quick hits on the update (I have not been able to pay much this week, work plus wifes b-day): 1. Might be intentional but Miranda does not have the scout function anymore. 2. I am getting a weird graphics glitch (a white box instead of explosion) when homing mines hit ships. May be irrelevant if they are not going to stay in the game. A few thoughts- Flight paths are greatly improved over the last two weeks. The battles look fantastic. Also I may just be getting used to the flight paths of ships but I have found it easier to select my ships in battle.
The lakota elite unit is no longer an elite unit. It is now an excelsior upgrade. Research it, and all excelsiors will turn into lakota variants. The Defiant took the lakotas place as an elite unit.
The curry/shelly needs its role changed to "colony frigate"
The Constitution needs its role changed to "scout", and roid capturer
Miranda needs detect mines ability, and role changed to "LRM"
Nova model is being worked on.
Klingon stations are in work.
Icon zoom issue is now fixed.
Beta testers:
Play team games with an AI ally. Watch the AI to see what it builds, and when it builds it.
I can't wait to have the Constitution and the Miranda having more suitable roles.
Oh and I just watched the new film, what did you guys think of it?
Can do Major Stress, and thanks for the update on all of that, plus that is AWESOME that the Lakota upgrade changes all the pre-existing excelsior’s! Kudo's fellas and good call.
You know, I was just getting ready to come in here and talk about that.
Disclaimer warning: Some events in movie referred to.
Now I know it's a little off topic guys, but I just finished seeing it in IMAX, and I have to say that I personally wasn't very fond of it.
As I have been describing it to everyone else so far, it's like the cliché meets the mundane. They take all the best cliché elements of the movies and TV shows and churn them out like processed meat (I mean, I even knew the guy in the red uniform was going to die when parachuting down to the platform, any good trekkie can tell you the guy in the red shirt who's not a main character ALWAYS dies on the away missions). All that is fine, but the worst thing that I can say that I didn't like about it was the random product placement in the beginning (thanks Nokia, didn't know you made it to the 23rd century, kinda thought they did away with that kind of stuff), and the obligatory Beastie Boys playing of "Sabotage" during the chase sequence, as well as the MANY scenes were the camera was shaking so violently it became hard to see what was going on (I hate it when action movies do that) that made the entire experience feel less like a star trek movie and more like an action movie with some Star Trek elements (I mean, for god sakes even going to warp and transporters are completely different. I'm ok with the transporters looking different, but there is no more zip and shine that warp used to do in every other movie and show. Now they are just there one moment, and then gone the next while the warp sounds like two chestnuts smacking together, kinda like a airplane breaking the sound barrier, rather than the built up charge we have all grown used to, and even the interior view from warp looks completely different).
All I can say is that for once I agree with Ebert. This is more mindless drivel for the masses rather than the kind of movies we have all grown up with. Bang, zoom, bash, crash, kiss, rather than the space opera of the 60's and 90's.
* You know, with all the negative talk about this I did forget to mention that there was one thing that I did like about the movie, and that is the alien races that they showed on screen. Finally, aliens that didn't almost completely look like a guy with some extra holes in his nose or a few bumps on his head. They actually had ALIEN looking aliens.
I still give it a C+, but now you can see why.
wow i have to completely disagree with you quicktodraw. If you are a fan of the TOS episodes it puts alot of that in perspective. i don't want to give anything away from the movies for those who have not seen it, but i myself gave the movie an A+ in fact i find it rivals if not better than WOK, which is the best or was the best trek movie ever made. Nemesis came close but fell short for me. if you have seen the very first episode of TOS you will understand more. There is also the point of "how it all began" beautifully executed. and the look was a huge plus. Using the romulans like they did was just brilliant. Its definately a movie will own on dvd, and worth seeing again in imax.
now back to mod talk. For those of you looking to upgrade, once you upgrade there is an icon in the ships ability on the excelsior, issue is you can't see the icon, and you have to upgrade each ship one at a time, unless this has been fixed since yesterday when i played with all the ships.
Beta testers also need to give me feedback on the new muzzles. They still have to be tweaked for the final version but you will see them and yes i left them large on purpose.
Movement out of the system, thats not going to get fixed anytime soon, it was doing that since entrenchment was released. There are some things i will be doing in the upcoming weeks that will tone it down a bit, but part of the issue is the ships are chasing down another ship and not closing the distance, the ship trying to get away is trying to expand the gap so it can turn around, so they just keep going. Best thing for you to do is the turn the lead ships around but leave the remaining ships chasing, you will see the ship running away will immediately turn and fight again. This is an AI issue. Extending weapons ranges might help solve the issue but thats a bandade, not a real fix. testers need to look for more changes to Movement coming up. I'm pretty close to the 80% ready mark which is my goal for release.
I agree with shimmer. I really enjoyed the new movie. 1st trek movie i saw twice in the theater since WOK. Sure it has a "been there, done that plot". I was skeptical at 1st, but this movie is absolutely brilliant. with an imagination not seen since the original series.
just a note to inform everyone that there has been 184 downloads in the two days since uploading the soa 2 0.03c rar
harpo
LOL might have a little to do with the Film release, but also because everyone is hankering for a taste of this game.
It must be because this mod sucks so badly
Or waiting impatiently for Entrechment version of the mod
I was really pleasantly suprised. It's very close to Khan for me, and they fixed the Romulans which was nice.
All of the little details were nice as well and I could see the film turning into a great new series.
80% dark shimmer? I can't wait, I still go back to 0.3c quite often.
I bought a figurine for the TNU Entperise, I love that ship SO much.
I won't ask you guys to put it in here, I know that this is TPU, and that ship was TNU.
(Is it too obvious that I'm trying to spread my acronym arround )
TOS TMP TNG+ are now reffered to as "Classic" Star Trek since those timelines do not exist anymore. Wiped out due to a paradox of epic proportions thanks to Old Spock, and Nero. Unfortunetly ENT was not touched by the timeline change.
"The New Trek" Movie (TNT) Ironic acronym by the way. Since the movie started with a bang. Perhaps they will adopt James Cawleys old title of "New Voyages" I didnt see him in the movie. Did anyone else?
Ill be leaving tommorow for about 3 weeks to a month for work again. Testers listen to shimmer, and do what is asked of you so we can get this done.
Haha yes thats why i got it it will be pants
hey just a thought, sorry if it has been sugested or if it is already included (havent been playing the latest version) but you could change the name black market to "orion syndicate". Dont know if its possible but it would be cool it you could.
I loved the new star trek film really good hope another film or a TV series will follow soon
hopefully the release for entrenchment will be soonish, i know i keep saying this but you dont want a half assed version
another series...hope so, but it wouldn't be the same without the computer voice
and release, lol, dominion and romulan haven't even been started
shimmer, if you don't mind, can I start on the dominion?
note: I think that there is abug where after you researched the repair platform for the fed, I still get to build the repair platform
What exactly do you mean by wouldn't be the same without the computer voice? They actually had something like an LCARS setup, and beyond that, they even had the computer voice from Voyager in it. Paradox, I'd say so.
Wow, how did you do that Mooster! I have been trying to build/research anything that will allow the Federation to repair their ships, but so far it has been a wasted effort.
Testers, and devs i have a treat for ya. I uploaded on sync an unreleased dev copy of Trekmods original SoA mod for Homeworld. Being that Homeorld is on its 10th anniversary i think it is fitting that the next release of SoA 2 should include SoA 0.96 to celebrate. Test it, and see where the influence of SoA 2 came from. Thats an order
Im on the road as of today for 3 weeks. So any questions ask shimmer.
the wife of gene roddenberry did spoken the voice of the computer i heard, and she died last year!?
i have a question- have u perhaps a release date for us? ^^
Mooster
Yes i am fully aware that the Romulans and the Dominion are not started yet. and for the umteen time YES I KNOW OF THE FED REPAIR BUG please stop posting it the reason why it is still there as if i remove it THE MOD WILL DUMP i have yet to get around to sorting the last of the federation research tree out so please just hold on and i am still unsure how we are going to have the ships repaired, at one point the dry docks would do it another point it would be like sins with repair stations and another idea is via repair ships
Hey, Shimmer, the paying attention to what the AI builds and when, do you want us to post those here? Also do you want us to do that through an entire game, or just up to a certain point in a game? (like when they start actually building ships)
the download count for soa 2 0.03crar is now 365.
Mooster your a tester not a modder on this team please act accordingly.
Dragoon, post everything if possible
Oh my god, I can't believe how old that game looks. It has been ages since I played the original Homeworld, and I even remember when it used to be one of the best looking games (since it did win game of the year after all).
I never played the original Sacrifice of Angels, instead I was more oriented towards the Star Wars mods that were coming out. I remember the huge Star Wars vs. Star Trek debates that would go on because of the different mods.
Anyways, I am glad you guys redid a lot of the stuff and improved on the textures for a lot of those ships (thanks Major Stress, the new ships for SOA2 look SOOOOOOOOO much better, and I am glad that we aren't just limited to the two factions set up in that original game, I mean the Sovereign Class as a repair ship!?!?). I am wondering if not only for pure nostalgia reasons are you guys going to use some of the old models for the carriers and motherships for starbases for the new races? I could tell that they were non-canon (great job on the resources collecter and manager for the Federation Alliance btw, really inventive looking), but it would be neat to see some of those make a re appearance, if only to allow the game to relate back to the first SOA mod.
Anyways, I have talked too much now and I'll continue helping with the testing, take care guys.
