So Guys (IC) what gives?
I didn't play Sins for a while because of Mini-dump and waited till Entrenchment hoping the bugs would be out. I get in the middle of a heated game, wiping my opponents out and of course what happens, Mini-dump. As my opponents in game would say "We are losing our patience with your lack of committment." Please fix, till then I have a worthless piece of software sitting on my desktop. A shame too, such an excellent game, I was really enjoying it.
Game runs fine. It's mostly likely something with your system. Did you uninstall, clean up and reinstall the game?
Agree ..game runs beautifully. Check your drivers/ defrag/ and uninstall and reinstall both games. Final versions won't run correctly if you don't get rid of all prior betas. Don't be so ready to blame the software developers before you " check your own backyard". I get so tired of reading posts about people blaming the game(s) before they check everything on their computer first. geez.
I also have ran into a couple of minidumps since the release of Entrenchment, mind you that i did unistall the previous betas and i do keep my PC updated and defraged.
You will need to manually remove the game folder, and run the fix below before you'll be able to re-install.Go to C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire (or where ever you installed the game) and delete the main Sins folder.Once you do this, download the file below (follow the link in IE, as other browsers will simply display it as a text file):http://sd.stardock.com/curthendzell/sins_entrenchment_fix.regSave the file to your Desktop and run it from your machine. Then, reboot your PC and go back to Impulse and try installing the base game. Make sure it installs to 1.15 version, test it out before then installing Entrenchment.
I did this solution, but alas no avail....still run into the minidump.
did you try turning down the shader setting? (atleast i think thats what i was told) anyhow i was told that if the shaders are up too high you'll run out of ram (idk if its vram or just system ram) and the game will minidump.
Well there you have for pompus arrogance....
Naquiste... I get the same minidump... right after loading up... Before mr. Pompus chimes in again about old Betas: This is a new machine, latest ATI drivers, upgraded direct x, Win XP Core i7 965 EE, 1 TB in raid Stripping, 6gb matched corsair 3X2 (4 gb in XP use- all 6 in Win 7), Thermaltake water cooled.
Mr. Pompus <cough> Slapdown... does it sound like I know what I am doing>? This is a fresh install... Sins... then entrenchment.... Can your pompus little mind guide us a bit better? geez..
For anyone else with a blank screen and a minidump at the very first install of Sins then Entrenchment..... Entrenchment does not automatically update Sins to 1.15 (at least it did not on my puter).... You will need to download 1.15 patch, apply it to sins... then Entrencment works fine... no need for the reg Fix for that-uninstall/reinstall.
If you continue to get the mini-dump errors, you should send those files to IronClad directly at support@ironcladgames.com, they are handling these issues.
where is the patch at I can't seem to find it?
The patch does nothing, dont get excited. I tried the instructions above and it did squat. I had a clean install on a new machine anyway, no prior betas, and I still cant play for more than 10 minutes before it minidumps. If it's a memory leak causing it, we dont turn down shaders, we turn up the pressure on the company to fix the bloody thing. They turned the most stable software I owned into the most frustrating, and now Stardock are sidestepping it too. Fantastic work guys.
By the way, Ironclads website is now also down, I'm not holding my breath for support anytime soon.
"Side-stepping"? Understand, Stardock is not the game Developer and we also have to wait until IronClad patch the game.
As I said before, send your Mini-dump to IronClad, they are the Devs and are handling those issues.
Hmm! Reinstall, turn down the graphics I think not, sorry. This is a Quad Phenom 9550 black box edition, with 2 8600gt nvidia sli cards - 256mb each. Runnning on a Vista 64 OS with 4 GB of ram. I really hate, and excuse the me for sounding a tad angry, having to tweak and uninstall and reinstall a game that should otherwise run fine. BTW I did uninstall and reinstall from impulse, nice service btw. Could it be a problem on my system, sure it could, it may also be 12 goblins nesting in my bios. It just strikes me odd that I can run 12 other video and ram intense games with no problem and have this issue. We can throw this about all day, but I am no newbie to gaming, and I was probably programming DOS based video games before most were a twinkle in their parents eyes. The first answer always is IT IS YOUR SYSTEM. I get it from Sony, From Stardock, from many other companies, eloquently put of course, but the same. After about 20 years it gets old. If 1 person is experiencing it, yeah it is probably the system, IF 1000 people have the same problem then...well you can draw your own conclusions. I still hold fast that the quality of games churned out by you is by far the best I have played, and that is not patronizing you, but fact. I can understand that problems will arise when programming, God only knows I have lost quite a bit of sleep and hair stairing at code screaming why won't you work! But please don't just jump in and say it is us when you have several dozen having the same problem. Also solutions should not be having to run your computer in 16 bit color mode cause you can't figure a video problem. I will happily send you my sys info. I will do what you ask, and when it fails realize that it is not the problem and go back to the drawing board. Thank you for your time in this matter.
Btw please excuse any and all grammatical and syntax errors, I'm sick and not all my self. Thanks.
Just to make things even better, The new update doesn't run pervious saved games. Go fig. every time there's an update you got to start all over again.
Since I tried to just update of course it crashed, but tried to reinstall no luck. old game save just dumped on load. Started new game so far so good only been about 15 min. though. But I feel much better knowing I'm not one of the few who programed and played games in Dos.
We'll So much for thinking the new update would solve the proplem just load my game i started last night only about an hour into the game, go fig minidumped with in 30 sec.
I'm in the 14th hour of a massive 10 player game, no mini-dumps.
Stridefar
Alas, 7 hours into a 8 player all hard game. Get told there's an update in Impulse, Update, Run the game. Try and load my save file and bang, mini dump ping in the background.
Thanks for the update!
I've tried to start new 10 player hard game, But after about 1 hour it minidumped, Tried going into windowed mode and turning down graphics no luck.
I've run all dxdiag and comes back fine so I sent ironclad the error report, game save, and so on. All you get is the same message that is automated in response. It's getting to be a pain after ten min. now with these constant minidumps and no real solutions to the problem. The game is great and would be even better if the could reslove these problems.
Or you can wait and finish your current game and then update.
The Sins website warns you that this will happen.
I must say my game runs fine.
the only time i have ever gotten a mini dump is when i tryed to run a mod with a version it wasn't updated for.
Hey all,
First of all i know pretty much squat about all this stuff, ie minidumps etc. I know people are saying that the programs at fault because their machines are almighty and can probably cure cancer with a couple more gig and they know this because they clean their machines every hour, defrag, spyware etc etc etc. BUT... where i agree there is obviously A problem, if it's with the programme...... why isn't EVERYONE getting this fault?? My PC sucks ass. 1.6 dual core, 1x 9500 GT 512mb, 2GB Corsair RAM, 320 GB HD and i'm running Vista Home Prem 32bit. So you'll all agree my machine cannot cure cancer. Unless i'm really lucky. (unlikely) I have never ever had any minidumps. Long games, short games, big, small or online. F**K my PC can only handle the medium maps with a few players and even then it sometimes runs sooooo bad i gotta turn down the settings just to try and stop the slowdown. I can play with the settings on med/high on my own but i only have a 1MB connection so online i have to turn everything down to prevent LAG from online play and slowdown of my inferior (non cancer curing) machine. Maybe everyone out there who does have minidumps all have one thing in common? 64 BIT Vista? Graphics card? i dunno. like i said i know s**t. But i find it hard to believe it's the programs fault when out of possibly hundreds of thousands of different low grade (game boy like) PC's and cancer curing jobs only a few 1000 actually have the problem. If someone with a bit of knowledge on these things, starts a thread, I dunno MINIDUMP DATA COLLECTOR S**T, or words to that effect. then everyone who has had, worked around, is still having these problems can copy their DXDIAG info onto the one thread and compare all this stuff it would probably give the DEV's something to look at and maybe more knowledgable people could rule out some stuff too. Anyway it's only an opinion so don't go mental all you cancer curers out there. i paid £300/$500 for my complete machine and i can play sins/trench 24/7. Take care.
2 PC's here working fine with Sins until the latest patch.
the only thing different is the lastest version of entrenchment.
I have found i can get a 50% chance at minidump when trying to load a saved game ( yes the same latest game version )
next patch hey?
still i wouldnt complain about ur computer. and u bit**ing isnt helping us. dont know how your comment helps anyone. and btw its SRTEST.COM if you didnt read my reply to your question. great site for testing system capability of games.
reply to DMC rapier
oddly enough, despite the fact srtest says I can't run sins.... I seem to be doing just fine... mini dump issues of course, but I'm assuming it's because I'm runnin it off a partition without nearly enough ram... (I'd re-set said partition but then I'd have to re dl my games )
