Ok im a total noob in this whole Mod creating thing but i wanted to try it out with a few frineds of mine.
I read around about the Forge tools and i saw nothing about creating the ships.
If wanted to creaate the animations and such as a new race for the game Is it Forge or another application that i have to use?
In the forge tools, you have two PDF related to XSI and to modeling...
Myself, i use wings3d for modeling, more easy to use and fast... For texturing, i use Gimp... XSI is only needed for the last stage, when you put everything together... Both XSI mod tools, Wings3D and Gimp are free software...
You can use any modeling program to make models for sins, but for them to work properly in sins you will need XSI 6.0, or later. Especially for adding proper tangents (what sins uses to smooth the models), and placement of hardpoints.
Sins doesnt use animations (like for turrets). Only the effects and particles use animations. You can create particles through particle forge. Though there isnt much for documentation on it. Its not hard to figure out if you take time, and look through the program.
I eventually just gave up on updating my original file, so I made a new one with Galaxy Forge 3, and copied the file into my Galaxy folder, but it isn't showing up in Entrenchement! Any idea how to fix this?
if you have version 1.01 you NEED to edit the galaxy.manifest in your entrenchment folder and any entrenchment mods folders.
the easier answer is to download my sins map updater v1.1.8 which includes a galaxy.manifest manager to do this exact task. it can be downloaded here http://files.filefront.com/sins+map+updater+v118rar/;13531441;/fileinfo.html
if you are ussing entrenchment 1.02 then the galaxy forge maps MUST be in the galaxy forge folder in you local apps sins folder eg for xp C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge and for vista/windows 7 C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge
hope this helps
harpo
Thanks, that worked fine!
Trying to get particleforge to work. Tried on both Vista and XP but just crashes when trying to open. Is there something i'm doing wrong? help?
you have to paste the files of the particle forge into the game folder ie. the c:\Program files folder for it to work
Thank you!
Any word on when an up to date Developer.exe fir entrenchment 1.02 is coming out?
it's been like what 2week to a month since the last update? probably not until 1.03 or higher comes out (if it does)
Yes, I would also like updated tools. I cannot use the DEV EXE with Entrenchement 1.02, it says I have a BETA version and need to reinstall everything, which I am not doing.
DANMAN
I started Particle Forge 3 with sins 1.16 and entrenchment 1.02 installed and it starts no longer!
The only thing that happens is that the microsoft "send error report" dialog shows up.
I was using the Particle Forge last time with entrenchment 1.01 and it worked so maybe the particle forge isn't compatible?!
Or is there another way to fix this?
EDIT:
Ok i fixed it, i just downloaded the forge tools again and now it works!
Ok, I am having some issues with the GF3. I can get the GF3 to launch, make and edit maps with no problems. I can get them to display in regular sins, but no matter what I have done I can't get them to display in entrenchment. I have the latest version of both entrenchment and the regulars sins. If it makes a difference, I downloaded them directly off of Impulse.
I have tried altering the manifest file, no dice there. My direcdtory was lacking the GalaxyForge folder, but I added it as best as I could from what I have seen on the forums and still haven't had any such luck. Am I doing something wrong?
Edit ~ Ok, I figured out what I was doing wrong. Was looking in the wrong directory, past experience tells me I shouldn't try to figure this out so late into the night.
I've been trying to set up a mod for SoaSE 1.15/1.16. Even loading an untouched set of pristine data files into 1.15, the thing crashes.
I then tried to reinstall Sins in case there was a problem, but of course Impulse has thus left me stuck with v1.16
So before I can even troubleshoot further, I guess I should ask if we can either have an updated version of ForgeTools, or if there is a way to tell Impulse to only update to 1.15?
are we goin to get a working entrenchment developer any time soon?
(117th post)
Yes, sometime soon would be good. I'd hate to go back to the "stone age" of this time last year with no developer at all. That was when we did it all IN CODE.
Uphill! Both ways! In the snow!
(A new set of mod tools would be lovely.)
I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but if you just copy/paste the entire contents of (not the folder with the contents in it) the particle forge folder (EXCLUDE THE PIPELINE SUBFOLDER) in the sins of a solar empire main directory, the particle forge will work, likely, if it was not working for you, before.
I am on windows vista with the latest version of .NET framework 3.5, and it absolutely would not work for me otherwise.
Now that 1.03 and 1.17 have been released, when will the full dev release be ready?!
Sorry, i'm new. How do i get the RAR file to work. Because when i downloaded it showed it was an RAR file.
Get 7 zip (its free), rar is a compressed file format. 7 zip can extract it.
what i really want is a ship editor. but till then!
Okey so this is data for 1.01 what the data for Entrenchment 1.03 where can I get the refernce data for that?
