Same Problem, Is there a Fix?
Things to try if galaxy forge or particle forge won't load for you:
1) Please make sure you have your .Net frameworks up to date (service pack 2 for .Net 2.0).
2) Try moving the d3dx9_36.dll, binkw32.dll, and fmod.dll from the Sins directory to the location of ParticleForge/GalaxyForge.
3) If that fails, installing the DirectX runtime from March 2008 has fixed problems on a couple of machines here at work.
4) .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 has also helped at least one person
Please post back if any of these things fix your problem.
Same problem here, too.
Galaxy Forge works for me (Vista w/ SP1) - but the maps I've created (4 player) cause instant defeat when playing.
Anyone else have that issue?
Sounds like you forgot to give yourself a starting planet... make sure all the players have a homeworld.
Trying some of psugar's advice...
my maps show up in Sins but not in entrenchment? anyone have an idea why? Ah I see I am not the only one with this problem
d3dx9 and updating directx didn't work. Perhaps I'm checking my .NET version incorrectly. Is their a way to see it without javascript?
generaly because entrenchment uses a manifest system to read all its files. so if its not in the manifest, its not gonig to show up.
Is there an easy workaround? I spent an hour making a map that I can't play (with Entrenchment at least)...
if you rename you map to one of the stock maps eg. "Krono's Kross" and put it in the sins/ galaxy folder it'll let you play it. this is the workaround that i found.
I had to do a seperate partition for vista so i could get GF to work
I'm trying to launch the Sins entrenchment developer version... I had move the files "binkw32.dll" "d3dx9_36.dll" and "fmod.dll" to the forge tools file from sins entrenchment files to get it to launch at all.
Now as soon as it launches it goes to a debug log and gives me the messages "Failed to find file 'English/str'. (subpath=string)" and so on for files "SetupDefaultStates.fx" "Prim2D.fx" "Prim2DShowChannel.fx" "Prim2DAdditive.fx" and on and on for at least 100 files (I didn't get to the end before just quitting...)
This happens for both the Rins Developer version and Entrenchment Developer version.
Any ideas? Anyone else having problems with the Developer versions?
Hmmm, this thread was actually helpful. I'm not used to that. Thanks everyone.
Was having the no stars or planets spawned/insta-defeat issue while trying out my GF3 created maps. Was saving it in the custom maps a.k.a. wrong folder. Put it in with the game galaxy folder and problem solved. Seems to me that if a map doesn't show up in a list or load up, then it's simply a "wrong folder" / "listing it in some file" issue.
BTW if anyone is making a list of what set up combos are working and what's not: Vista 64-bit, SP1, .net 3.5, Sins 1.15, Forge Tools 3 (downloaded yesterday, the 28th)... Everything installed to default directories, forge tools are just on my desktop. Everything loads up just fine.
You are supposed to put the Developer .EXE's in your game folders.
Has anyone else sucsessfully run galaxy forge with XP SP2? Obviously the requirements for something must have changed, sense the old galaxy forge works just fine.
I have a easy solution for those that can't see their maps in Entrenchment:
Open the galaxy.manifest thats found in the entrenchment folder and open it with notepad. I made a map and named it 'trial'. After I opened the gaxaly.manifest file, I typed: file name "trial" in order with the other maps and saved it. Once I did that, I started the game and looked for the map and found it. I started a game with the map I made and nothing bad has happened so far. I hope this works for everybody else
Added new entry in galaxy.manifest but still not working for me, instant defeat.
If I use the user galaxy directory the map shows (as a custom map) but give an instant defeat.
If I don't use the user galaxy directory (and put the map in /Sins/Entrenchment/Galaxy) the map won't show.
Tried also by putting the map in both vanilla and entrenchment galaxy directory but it's not showing up.
Blair, I absolutely love what you've done with Galaxy Forge 3, I loaded in my 262kb GSDef for 7DS 2.0 Final and I see all my wonderful templates in the drop down box. I'll eventually use it when 7 Deadly Sins upgrades. Looks solid and VERY functional!
BOOYAH. You might want to consider making the Template dropdown box longer... I have 106 templates. lolz. OCD/ADD 4TW! Same for the planetItemType box... 401 planetItemType need proper spacing.
Congrats and feel free to look over the GSDef 7 Deadly Sins will be using for ideas to include in the SINS 1.15 GSDef (you might even keep a side version of SINS 1.05 to play it )
Windows xp, service pack 2 with .net 2.0. Particle forge works, Galaxy forge does not.
Both of these work. THANKS!

I've been checking .Net version by going to the installed programs list under control panel.
Keep in mind that you want the regular .Net Framework 2.0 (sp2) - not the .Net Compact Framework 2.0. They're so similarly named it's easy to think you have one when you have the other.

LoTeK_83:
Where are you looking for the maps? They don't show up under custom maps, but in with the rest of the maps of that size.
"Custom" means in-game generated. It's a bit confusing, I know.
Wierd, I just tried my particle forge again, and something I did got it to work. Unfortunately, me and SOK must be having the exact same problem as galaxy forge still doesn't work. I'm pretty sure I have the right framework, it says Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service pack 2 in add or remove programs. I also have .Net Framework 3.
Everywhere. I checked all small/medium/large/custom boxes, no sign of the map except when I put it under the user files galaxy folder (but then I have an instant defeat).
lotek are you useing vista ro window7? if you are then check the program files galaxy folder for "compatibiliy files" and drag them out of compatibility & paste in the galaxy folder.
hope this helps
