Well, I've been trying to decide if I shoul to get this game or not. I mean, it looks great, but I'm not sure about how much play I will get out of it before losing interest. Variability is what keeps me interested in games. I recently tried Dawn of War II and found it to be lacking in said department. Every time I played it was typically the same maneuvers over and over again. Battle Forge has been good to me... but I don't know if it's the type of game that will have a long life span...
So, here I am, still looking at Demigod (and I have been for over a year now). I enjoyed DoTA quite a bit, and I love RTS games, specifically RTS games emphasizing skirmishes over large scale battles. I can't decide whether or not to pre-order this game now. With only eight characters (so far) and no modding (yet) I'm not sure about this game yet. Some questions:
So, if I pre-ordered Demigod what are the odds that I'd get into the beta?
How many maps will be in at release?
How fun is the game?
How much does one match vary from the next/previous?
How much versatility exists amongst the characters?
Will there be mod/map tools? If they won't be in at release then how far off will they be?
Basically, if the game has a decent modding kit (preferably comparable to WCIII or SC) planned then I'd be all over this game. I'd settle for a decent map editor (like the one from Sins of a Solar Empire).
I have played dota for many years and also enjoy many RTS games, in particular company of heroes. Sacrifice by Shiny, another game that has influenced DG, was also one of my all-time favorite games.
The game is really fun. Its a blast to play when you can actually connect to MP matches.
The matches can vary a lot due to the skill of the players, match settings, and the variety in each demigod's skill tree. Match settings such as experience-gain and tower strength can really speed the match up, which affects other things such as what skills to learn and which gear to get. Each Demigod is a skill tree which is much more complex that the skill system in Dota. Specializing in one area of the tree definitely alters the way you play your hero for that match.
No one knows if the game will be mod-friendly, as no mod tools have been announced.
However, I would hold off on pre-ordering until the MP connectivity issues are fixed. It is really a pain to get into a match right now. Unless you just want to play offline with AI-bots. I am not even sure if they are still letting people into the Beta who pre-order.
if your gonna pre order pre order now because i think they stop giving acess in like 6 days. Also conectivity for me at least is pretty good. I tell this to everyone who think about joining. The beta is not finished hence its name beta and right now is when were going through massive balancing and bug fixing. I personally find it very fun and I do like a game very similar to dota on battle net and found this fun.
If you find DoW2 lacking, then I suggest you wait for this game to come out in April and read the reviews.
Currently in the beta phase, you will find it even more boring.
You should wait until this game is released, see if the reviews are positive and then wait for a demo (IMO).
its not released yet and this is a beta, and a real beta, its important to say real nowday.
for now i can say you that its very fun,its looks aewsome, the musics are fantastic, the style is great, very artistic and unique.
i can say that i love many rts,im playing dow2 also now,i have loved coh, supreme commander,sins,wc3,sc,total war series, and im a little old i think casue im 30 years old and i start playing rts with dune 2
wait for review but i think theyy ll be all positive.
maybe someone doesent like the gameplay style, but for the quality of the product im sure it will be at the top.
try the demo when come out.
ah i dident remember another good point of this game...stardock producer
(this beta run with less problem than empire total war demo for many peoples...i have say all)
sorry again for my english
Another feature of Demigod that adds replayability and results in variation from one match to the next is the ability to upgrade your Fort. This is not something you can do in Dota. The tech tree for your fort is even larger than that for the individual demigods. Naturally, players are often reluctant to use their hard-earned gold to upgrade the fort, and instead by gear for their demigod. However, when players do put their gold into the fort, this can definately change the way the match develops.
I didn't mention in my first post that as in dota, Demigod features item shops. Although there is not as many items as in dota, there are still dozens of things to purchase. Separate from the item shop is a Favor Mall (basically items that are purchased with a different kind of currency).
All of these things add up and together it really does ensure variation in the way matches are played.
Yeah, they have been saying that since December so i wouldn't take that into consideration. It seems that the Beta is not going as well as it was intended with many technical bugs causing the experience to be sour and unrewarding for a group of people. At the risk of yourself not falling into that category i would just hold out until the game is stable (released) and make a judgement from there.
Unless you are a major Stardock and/or GPG fan like myself and you are willing to pre-order just to show your support for them, i would wait until you can try the a Demo of the game.
I don't think I'd characterize it like that.
1. The beta process has gone exactly as expected. It seems like every single beta project we do we get a handful of users who say exactly what you said above. The Demigod beta is going a lot better than the Sins of a Solar Empire beta did (we had a lot fewer resources then) and certainly miles better than the Twilight of the Arnor beta.
We pushed Sins of a Solar Empire back 6 months. We moved Twilight of the Arnor back 3 months. Demigod we pushed back 2 months total from the original goal and that was in order to implement Generals in a more sophisticated way than the design we had originally had.
Each time we do a beta, we always get people who think the beta should be some sort of demo. I remember the GalCiv I beta back in 2002 where there was a huge flame war over whether it should have been labeled and alpha.
2. The beta IS closing next week. Since I'm the one who decides when the beta closes and put it on the internal calendar for closing the beta 30 days before the game goes gold (which originally was going to be in March but we pushed it to April) we've been on track.
That said, people should generally wait until the game ships and wait for a demo.
I expected nothing of a Demo when i signed up to the Beta Test, i expected actually Beta Testing the game with other's online
Edit: Well speaking of successfully playing a game from outside of the US, typical American mentality was shining today as i tried to have my first game of Beta 3. I was impressed when i was able to join in a 3v3 room with 5 others players with no errors at all. The only error was the people in there literally harassing me for having a 300ms ping. I don't mind being asked to leave as i would do so being used to selfish American's for so long but the way they went about it, swearing at me and telling me to piss off just because im not local to them was a show of complete ignorance and stupidity.
Can someone inform me of other Non American, non ignorant players that i can play with in this community? THIS IS A BETA TEST, i have never seen such a display before in a beta test. How can we be able to test things when people swear and insult you for just trying to play one single game.
Hey Frogboy, are you able to inform me of who is outside North America that is active in this Beta? Because i will try not to step on anymore ignorant toes and make more people cry just for being born in another country.
Well you sound delightful.
We are working hard to address the bug of mean people being on the Internet. Stay tuned.
k, I must say I didn't no exactly what to expect but what ever i did expect this is better..
I actually LOL'd reading that.
Evanescent, your post would go over a lot better without the "American" descriptors left and right. There's 300 million of us so we have our share of douchebags, but last time I checked stupidity and lack of manners is pretty much a universal human trait.
That being said, if you don't mind playing with a dirty buck-toothed American, I'd be happy to play a game or two with you if you dont mind the pings.
I will say that one of the benefits of Impulse Reactor is that you'll be able to eventually set up all kinds of conditions on match-making.
I have played many games and never have I come across insults, and i am American and the only time I curse is when I mess up badly but that still is rare. So stop saying Americans are all people who curse and insult people. Some day some game company maybe Stardock and Gpg are gonna decide u no Evanescent i think we just arn't going to sell are awesome game in your country, I'm sry maybe next time but u did call us cursers and unsulters, so u had it coming.
I doubt that would actually but I would rofl if it did. Seriosly whats with the prejudices, i mean u call us bad I hear what your saying alot. your all a bunch of hippocrites.
I do a lot of trash-talk in this games, good thing right now I cannot play games other than Pantheon due to connection bugs BTW, I'm from Spain (far far away from USA) and my ping is between 100~200 in a 6mb/300kb line.
To answer the guy in the first thread....wait until release. Right now it's not funne except if you like beta'ng. And we do HELL love it
@Frogboy: Stardock never answers me on twitter. You're awesome, the twitter boy is not xDDD
Soccer194, you are just being Ignorant. You were never in a position of being kicked out of most online games because your ping was always over 200 to the majority of the players, so don't act like you are above it all please. When you have experienced many years of constantly getting kicked out of online games because there are barely any non-american players/servers or because they themselves are ignorant to the fact that hey! there are actually people outside of North America, then it starts to get annoying. Generally i don't care about it because i am used to it but when i saw this display on a BETA, it was just disgraceful.
Does a 200-300 ping make any difference in this Beta? No
Are you an idiot to kick someone out of a Beta testing game because they have 200-300 ping? Yes
Soccer you are talking from no experience, so i would just stop acting all high and mighty about the situation because you have absolutely no idea. You and your fellow countrymen take online gaming for granted just because North America is the center of it all. If you were discriminated and kicked out of ONE game you would be annoyed at it, try it for years.
Yes i am used to the pings, and No i don't mind playing with Americans. I played with several of them in a game of DoTA today. The problem is sorting through the masses to actually find the decent people to play with. In fact, some of the more loud mouth beta testers on IRC (hi HD300) understand the fact that this is a beta and that having someone with a slightly higher ping will not effect the game that much and is still able to enjoy playing it.
Dude, I have been kicked out of lots of games because my internet used to suck and it pissed me off but I realised to deal with it because playing a game can get agravating with lots of lag. Now usually its not a problem because I have a better internet connection. I'm sry but u made it sound like u think All americans are annoying but now u have clarified your thoughts and I take any thing bad about u back. I dodn't discriminate because of high ping but If people can't play because Its just to laggy thats when it becomes a problem. Only than would I want to kick a person or leave a game but usually i leave a game. To me it just sounded like u thought americans are all loud mouthed cursers when u were the one doing the insulting. Simmple misunderstanding.
Hello,
First i want to say, that a beta is always good for a finsih game without bugs.
If a Beta is open, many players test the game and help to find bugs.. And If there are a
lot of bugs in the beta.. The Producer of the Game can find them and can kill them
I play not very often, but I am from Germany (thats far away too (from USA) ) an my ping is beetween 100-300
I think it depends on your download/upload and on the host of the game too, for example if the pc of the host, is lagging, you won't get a
low ping .)) ( So i think)
To answer your question: Should i buy the game?
If you are sitting in a room, with 6-10 players and all play Demigod, you will have a lot of fun.
For example, you kill somebody and then he will cry :" Cheater, that was a lag..... "
I think the game will make a lot of fun in this way, but if you want to play singelplayer, this game won't make so much fun like killing friends
I´like dota in WC3, too, and it makes a lot of fun, and so i think, that Demigod will be a good game.
