EDIT: Now that flak has been buffed and carriers have been nerfed, does anyone still want to participate in this demonstration?
Ok, so apparently people just don't get it (see the replies to this thread https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/340339 and the various threads about needing to nerf carriers).
So to all of you who think carriers are OP, I am CALLING YOU OUT. That's right. Tonight, from 7 pm to 10 pm EST, I will play you in a team game. I promise to build no more than 1 for every 5 cruiser carriers you have. I will show you how to counter carriers properly. At the end of the demonstration, we will then determine if a nerf is really needed. I invite the developers as well. My screen name on ICO is "[DT]Howthe?" Be there or be square. If you want to reply to this thread and reserve a spot either on my team or the opposing team, just sign up. I'll then go ahead and make a roster.

Can either the "nerf" or the "leave it the way it is" states be modded? If so, why aren't we doing that instead of changing gameplay?
Although I admire the idealism, there are three problems with that. First which-ever group is the "mod" group is going to have a lot of practical issues coordinating the use of the mod. Secondly, it's harder to standardize the quality and support for a modded version than an official versions. Finally, it's not a good idea to split the community up between different versions of the game, as that makes it harder to find a match and leads to alienation.
The problem with carriers is less an issue of tweaking numbers, and more an underlying gameplay issue that people dislike. The issue that many of these people bring up isn't that strike craft can't be beaten, but rather that they don't like the effects of their unmatched mobility and firepower on gameplay. However, this is the kind of thing that gets changed in an expansion pack that brings new content and dynamics to the game, not a balance tweaking patch.
I am capable of hosting without alloy. I will pop on 7pm EST and see if anyone has shown up. I will volunteer to host. My terms for offering this are that I will not be an active participant in the game, I will merely host and observe. Everyone should therefore ally with me (while remaining enemies with everyone else). I will do nothing but sit on my home planet.
However, I think that even without alloy replays are screwed (my experience, anyway).

sorry guys i miss calculated the time zones. Im in cali. I just got home. I re-built my computer over last weekend and am looking forward to using my new system however its taking longer then i remembered to down load Sins from Ironclad. it could be a little bit im at 13% after about as many minutes

Well did you have the beta and 1.13 in another folder?
It says that traces of entrenchement don't allow 1.14 too run cause 1.14 is instaled over the entrenchement folder so you have too completly uninstal and reinstal with impulse... At least that's what I think... I'm not a pro on pc stuf.
By the way does anyone know why this carrier thing has exploded so badly the last week?
What i personally would like to see is what was originally talked about. Having a tech that increased the carriers from one spad to two. yes there would have to be some balancing as far as fleet points and what not but i think it would make it more interesting. And it would make carriers more valuable late game!

All sense of objectively in this test is now out the window. How do we even know if the teams are stacked or not? What if Traveller fails epically and gets rushed in the first 15 minutes?
This idea is ridiculous. You need players of pretty much equal SKILL, not some random yahoos off the street corner!
