The Empire: Total War demo is out now on steam
Yeah the load times are really ridiculous, but of course its a demo.
Im running the game smooth on thier highest settings and i was thinking that was the cause of the load times, nope, I lowered the settings to low and still really long load times.
BTW Nvidia released new drivers two days ago! I wonder if it had this and DoW II in mind
Yes guys (talking to you IronClad), the demo is FUBAR. Remember how that guy downloaded it early and they said that it was incomplete and bad code, and they were pushing the demo back a few weeks to polish it? LIES
I'm willing to bet money the full game will run better. Even on my computer I get just about 30 FPS
oh and it CRASHES when I adjust the resolution so I'm stuck playing it at the default resolution...
My new computer. With 4 Gbs RAM. And a 4870 1 Gb...
The second half of the naval tutorial was to capture the second ship, not sink it.
I hadn't even been watching for this game but it seems like it plays an AWFUL lot like EWOM is going to.
Sorry, my previous reply was supposed to include this quote.
Huh, really? I blew it up.
Yeah there weren't board options in the tutorial
Ya there were, it was just simpler to blow stuff up
You have to uninstall Object Desktop and WindowBlinds. ah.ah
No seriously, my rig is far from top of the line (Inter E6700, Radeon 4850, 2GB DDR2) and it runs flawlessly on 1680x1050 max details (except for the atrocious loading time). This said, it seems the demo has some issues with nVidia GPUs according to TWCenter.
9800GTX+ and it runs fine for me.
I did play again last night and was getting 45 FPS on the land battle. But still the fact that it CRASHES when I attempt to adjust me settings fails. I'll still buy Empire, but I'm sure the demo is screwed up and the final game will run better. I run Dawn of War 2 alot better than I do the demo and it has higher system requirements.
Ya, demos don't tend to have the last minute edits to the game code for optimization and minor bugfixes. The part that annoys me is that we are stuck playing the same 2 maps for the next 2 weeks
As long as they fix crashing and those horrible horrible loading times, the end product will be very enjoyable. But if they don't fix the length of loadscreens by release... Its not gonna be fun at all.
Ya that demo is really laggy and buggy... but then again my old pc sucks.
Maybe it's just my old monitor only allowing a low, by today's standards, resolution of 1280X1024, but I'm playing it with most everything set at high except I conservatively shut off AA and shadows. The latter as I find they never really add much in the TW games but always seem to suck resources like crazy. My processor's relatively new as it's an E8500, but I'm still using an old 7900GTX.
Played smooth with these settings with only a few hiccups. There are numerous reports on the official forums however of folks with very high-end systems having very low FPS so I've got no idea what CA did to cause it.
Could it be some other app you guys are running? Heard there were issues with Vista, but my Vista rig from 2007 is handling it fine thankfully.
Dude! That's exactly what I've got.
Shogun Total War ... sigh ... they just dont make games like that anymore.
Meh, tried the land battle for the first time and within five minutes it crashed and asked me to send an error report. Think I'm relegating this one for purchase only a good while after its release and the fatal bugs have hopefully been patched out.
I'm hoping that's part of the reason for this Steam-only demo is that they've realized how bad they were at patching Medieval 2 and they think the update support will streamline the process.
I have no issues running the game. The naval combat plays like an arcade game, so I'm not impressed. Though it does look pretty. I wont be buying at least until patches are released, may even wait for mods.
Stop checking everything and trying it on ultra?
Load times are longer than normal for TW, but they weren't exactly super fast as standard anyway. At most I've up to a minute on waiting.
Love the land battles. Constant need to fix your set pieces and positioning. I snuck my 6lb artillery to a ridge, before the yanks could react two of their 24lb batteries were destroyed. My infantry lured their main army down the river which left my hussars to easily dispatch the remaining artillery positions. After that, it was RULE BRITANNIA!
Historical war simulations, the last retreat of the British Empire.
In general, CA has had... issues, when releasing demos. I find this to be expected behavior, a bug laden demo with horrific problems on a substantial number of computers that shouldn't have any trouble at all. The main release will be slightly less irritable, and they'll patch it just enough to justify future purchases.
I wonder if i should try it on my beast but sadly I dont do demos...
Why would it require Steam to be played? You can buy it in a box, right? I thought Steam was just for digital distribution shit.
any idea on if theyre gonna have coop campaigns yet... multiplayer battles were always.....less then desired
Steams new business model is to become the ubiquitous digital distribution (DD) platform, Internet based game or not.
Yes 1v1 campaign mode. It is why the game got pushed back.
You need to go into the EmpireTW.ini file, and manually change the setting:
IsCompetitor = 1
... to ...
IsCompetitor = 0
I think it'll run better after you do that ...
