Since Windows 7 Beta 1 is not released with an installed base of over 2.5 million copies, Star Dock should release a beta of products for Windows 7. Heck their is even a petitation to have Windows 7 released now. Let the 7 love start now......

First off I am 37 years old and have been with stardock since wb4 and love most of their products. I am ususally on the cutting edge of MS operating systems. I love beta software. MS has stated there will be no Beta 2. The next train stop will be Release Candidate, then RTM.... So if Windows Vista SE (7) is that far ahead then Star Dock should be as well. Ms released three milestone releases of Windows 7, so in realty milestone 1 was beta 1, milestone 2 was beta 2 and milestone 3 was beta 4, and beta 1 consumer release is beta 4. So in realty MS has had 4 betas of Windows Vista Second Edition (7). The next os is so awsome, that they sould do a 7 of 9 edition from Star Trek Voyager. That would be hot man....
I have read that 7 will be relased from about june of this year since that is the time from for free os upgrades and about jan 2010. I say the only differences are the new toolbar so wb6 should not be that hard to fix to work with windows 7 and yes i love Windows over the silly linux where you need a phd to install java. linux will never take over the consumer market, it is open source, so anyone can find its weakness really easly, if linux was on 90% of the desktops it would be so hacked, it would make xp look like gold. open source people come on, anyone can see the holes.
I'd appreciate if you link the sources for that please. I can find anything official from Microsoft that support this statement.

The list can be made very long, but it's easy to see my point here... There are a number of reasons why Linux will not take over the consumer market NOW, but it being open source is definetely not one of them (even though it does slow down the progress a bit, for other reasons).
Just for fun I'll state my favorite reason why Linux will never take over the consumer market:
You have to realize and consider changes "under the hood". It's not just as simple as saying "it should not be hard to fix", if you have never developed an application like WindowBlinds before.

i sat we getr ibm to do os/2 again and also have apple release os/x at least to pc compies like dell and have dell do the tech support. apple are just ibm x86/64 computers no different now that they use the same intel cpus and can be hacked to run on amd as well
sicne the kernal is 98% the same only difference is the ability to load more then one driver at a time and to load services on demand...
and its only version 6.1 and not version 7.0 so technically when windows 8 comes out it will be windows 7. confusing aint it...

Donald.... skinnables don't play with the kernEl [ ]....they play with the shell....the GUI of 'Explorer' is the interface that isn't the same in '7' as it is in 'XP'.
Even visually 'small' changes in the GUI can be 'annoying' to accommodate in a WB revision....

As for "open source will never take off" you must be joking... It has already taken off, and it's going amazingly well. I'm not going to pull alot of statistics, but do you have ANY idea how widely spread the use of the apache web server is? The Linux kernel is used by a huge lot of major corporations on servers worldwide (IBM, Novell, Dell and HP is a few examples...). If you want to go secure, check out any of the open sourced BSD distributions (OpenBSD is a prime example). Open Source makes it possible for anyone to browse the code and make sure there are no back doors. You can't do that with proprietary software.
Anyway, this thread is about Windows 7, so let's get back on topic now, there's nothing to see here anymore.
I've learned not to take anything on msdn as truth, they've posted a huge lot of mistakes and wishful thinking there in the past. It's not an official forum for public announcements.
Though he claims that the Beta is feature complete... I'll believe it when I see the RC without any new features added. Most likely they'll release RC1 with a bunch of new features (which means it's REALLY beta 2, as an RC shouldn't contain new functionality), then we'll have RC2 (or in worst case up to RC5) which is feature complete.
If kept out of water long enough, sure....
BTW, I have nothing to do at 4 AM so I'm reviving old threads...lol.
