What happens if I uninstal service pack 3 from my computer. It was instaled as an uptade. The problem is that my sound drivers are not working with service pack 3. Before this update I had windows service pack 2.
Thanks for the help.
Try reinstalling your sound driver or get its latest version from its manufacturer and then install the latest version.
It should work.
You will experience a disturbance in your colon that can only be matched by Starkers. Do what superman suggested and all should be well.
You'll likely hose your system. It is never a good idea to uninstall a Service Pack.
If you do decide to go that route, backup any important files in case you have to reinstall the OS.
and apparently you will lose all automatic updates that came in after SP3 was installed... which can take a while on dial up to get back even after your reinstall SP3....
I have to fourth that sentiment. What sound card do you have?
Its nice MS makes the decision easy.
' Just dont do it... mmmk? "
this was true with SP2, uninstalling SP2 usually meant losing everything and doing a clean windows install. I made that mistake once...LOL
I don't think SP3 is "imbedded" (for lack of a better term) the way SP2 is.
personally I have installed and uninstalled SP3. I installed it and found out that my old skinning software StyleXp was not compatible with it so I uninstalled it.
then I started using WB and reinstalled SP3.
Had absolutly no problems uninstalling SP3 or with sytem operation afterward. The system reverted back to SP2 according to my computer properties. One funny thing though I did notice. My copy of XP is pre SP2 integration thus I have to install SP2 after the fact which causes SP2 to show in the control panel add/remove programs list. upon uninstalling SP3, SP2 was removed from the list though my computer properties states my windows version is 2002 SP2.
Certain computers might get away with it. But SP's are so complex, and there are so many files that overlap - it is never a certain thing.
It is better to back up all important files and do a clean install. Then do all the Windows Updates, including SP3, then reinstalling all the software and backup data files.
A lot of trouble, yes. But better that, than losing the files that are most important to you.
And, you will probably come away with a faster running and more reliable system in the long run.
@ Superman
I reinstalled many times my driver for the soundcard. So I'll chose the last option to get the latest version from the manufacturer.
@ Zargon0225
Wel I have a Realtek ALC883 8-channel audio CODEC.
Somebody can help me from where to download the latest version of the sound driver. I searched for it but I don't know which is the latest.
Thanx for the help.
Wow, the Realtek website could use some work.
Your motherboard or actual PC manufacturer may also have a pertinent download.
That kind of card uses the HD Audio Codec and you may need to get an update from your computer manufacturer instead of Realtek. If you can't then follow the instructions here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
This is GREAT advice, tcsagat. DO NOT uninstall SP3!!!
