Ok.
1- Many people think rook is O.P
I d'ont think this is true. Is a little bit too powerful now with a 2100 Hammer damage. (should be 1800 imo).
Also there is a radius bug with the hammer. at this distance normally (lets say "I" is a player ) I the player should not receive the full domage. PLayer should only receive the 800DMG instead of the 2100.
Another way to evade the hammer and I dont see people doing it while its the best way to avoid damage is to run straight at the rook. There is no radius bug with this so when running at the rook or a little higher than the hammer or lower (just don't be under it) you wont receive full damage. Escaping is the easiest way for a rook to have a successful 100% damage hit with the hammer (unless you have been stun by the boulder far far away but since there is a radius bug its better to avoid running away in straight line.
2- PLEASE PLEASE don't get yourself voluntary directly under my hammer PLEASE!!! I'm laughing at this every time and then the player say OMG so O.P
Come-on !! manage your character movement correctly.
3- Calculate my cold-down. once you can do that, you can predict when I'm gonna launch a boulder. when you think its about time I lunch one, walk over me. Since the boulder work on a direction, it will be hard for me to lunch and I will have high chances to fail.
If you can successfully follow this, youll see rook is not that much O.P anymore.
4- Laggy player have high chance for killing me. I can't tolerate lag I play all bad when it's laggy
so for GpG, they just need to correct hammer radius and lower a bit the hammer damage and all will be perfect imo.
Feel free to comment friendly (I may be wrong about Rook not being O.P) so feel free to tell me in a polite way.
Have fun killing me
BTW this topic should be closed. The point of it was to help people counter the rook and not talk about What O.P means and if rook is O.P or not.
We know hes stronger (even O.P if that can make some happy)
Doesnt OP mean Over Powered? Are you telling me his "Power" isnt More (or Over) than other Demigods? Ofc there are different levels of OP...Rook isnt THAT OP, but sometimes he really can be....Just one hit killing a Demigod should never be an option.
This thread is a discussion about how to counter Rook AND thoughts on him and his OP'ness....Dont think this needs a thread close
I think what I've come to is that Rook has a low threshold of achievement compared to other Demigods.
I don't mean that a good Rook player will not completely destroy a bad one (Wagnard vs. me shows the spread very clearly) but that a bad Rook player, as long as he sticks to boulderslamming, will perform close to the level of a good Oak, UB, or QoT, or at least far better than a bad player with another DG.
As people have pointed out, however, it does take some skill to counter a Rook, even a bad one. You have to have some micro to dodge the boulder or the hammerslam, but you don't have to have alot to execute them. Apply that to Rook players who do have micro and skill and they basically demolish, even when their opponents are strong.
So how do we make the skill threshold higher for Rook or lower for countering him?
I think rook currently is like T3 air + engineering station. It is almost exactly the same pattern if you look at a game start to finish.
Not broken with either one of the two gone, but when the two comes together and reach later stage of the game, it turn into an extreme force.
I think Rook is like a guy with a stun gun and a nube tube. Stun takes some skill, but nube tube doesn't. u stun than kill. Rook to me is the noob guy. The guy thats extremely deadly even if your a nub against others unless their pros or semi pros who have can react quick enough.
rook is easier to play
i tryied it, for fun, my first rook gaem since the first beta
, its was truly easy, less hard work for killing, boulder/hammer
the only "hard" part is to stun with boulder
I think he is overpowered because he is not only extremely effective against other demigods (1 hit kill if the enemy is not at full health, often no need to stun them first) but he is extremely good in killing reinforcements as the AoE damage of the hammer is just owning the normal creeps und at least priests.
And saying others should simply run away from his hammer is sensless, because as you are running away all the time you are unable to do anything to help your team.
Soccer its not like that anymore in Beta 2D.
I dont think it has to do with "easy" here... there are a lot more than just our character (timming / strategy etc).Rook is so similar to the TB in term of easyness so I wouldnt talk about Rook since its the character you take normally.
If you played beta 2D you would known that Rook is not so much a problem anymore sionce almost every other demigod got a boost of HP enough to resist that boulder / hammer and get away or even kill Rook if he's not carefull enough.
For easy character, look at some regulus player.... they keep using snipe from their base.... (not Flurus case )
Although I take your point about most demigods having "An easy option" (TB is very stun/snare heavy, and can deal massive AoE and spike damage; what's not to like about that?), the difference with TB, Regulus and the rest is that they don't hit quite as hard in such a short space of time and aren't naturally as durable as Rook; playing as Rook is a lot more forgiving than playing as some of the other demigods because your mistakes aren't punished as harshly. That's the real issue here. If the Boulder/Hammer combo was a lot harder to pull off, or a failure to pull it off carried heavy punishment, then it wouldn't be so much of a problem.
I have no problem with Rook being able to One (two really) shot other players; what I take issue with is it being so easy to pull off and so hard to avoid, without there being any negative consequences to failure.
Maybe after a hammer slam rook should stand stupidly and not move/attack for a period of time. This would make missing with hammer slam a very bad thing.
Wagnard usually I play as Reg but sometimes Rook to see if he's still rigged which he is. Ill tell u why, he has like 7.5k health at level 20 without items while every other dg has like half that at 20 without items. This allows him to win in every slap fight because he does more damage has an area of effect and more health. So u have to use spells but most spells beside hammer slam only do like 1000-1500 damage which means u have to use that spell on him like 6 times before u die or he tele's back for health. his ability to keep u at a far is extremely deadly. The only ones that can actually fight him are Qot and Reg because their ranged. If u try using minis on rook he can use his aoe slap on them, boulder roll, and hammer slam. Boulder roll and hammer slam will prob kill or do alot of damage to most, and than u can slap the rest. So how do u propose I kill Rook with a melee demigod when he will always win, especially if he gets a hammer slam on u. Hammer slam is almost impossible to dodge because in 2d even if u go through Rook's legs he still hits u. When your melee u just cant get away quick enough.
I fully agree to Soccer194. And the problem is that he is not only stronger than any other demigod in a 1on1 but he also is very good against creeps so that you can't try to kill him with the support of your creeps as he hammers them to death pretty fast.
I agree with soccer too.
BUT most of those spell your talking about have 0 chance of faillure. (when hammer will be debugged, it will be avoidable)
You can avoid snipe or the old TB fireball. SO I think its normal that the hammer do more damage if he hit. (maybe not 2000+dmg tho)
And for rook hp at 7k maybe too much but He deserve more hp than the other from the look of it. Hes a tank you know.
Also dont let rook level to 20 is a good trick too.
But dont worry beta3 will nerf him a bit. Im not worried at all about it.
Signed, Beta 3 will be interesting. I agree with you but for one issue; Tanks can't (by the standard definition at least) deal damage quickly.
Maybe the real issue here is that no one on the design team knows exactly what Rook is supposed to be?
They is only 1 time I see a Rook lvl 20 a the end of a game in 2d and that because I was in dark side rank 10 while Rook is on light side rank 5. I didnt notice his 7k hp but I only know I kill the Rook 10+ while he kill me 1-2 times.
I would rather just slow the Rook down by about 15% to 20%, as suggested by some others here. That to me would seem to have the necessary ripple ramifications while preserving the 'Titanic Fortress' aspect of the character.
And of course fix the radius bug on Hammer Slam.
i want Rook to have a little less health because when I try to kill him he can easily tele out before that happens, even if he's at half health or less because i can't do 3000 damage that quickly.
Quick FYI - Vundarbread confirmed on IRC last night that the AoE from Hammerslam is perfectly circular and radiates from the point of impact (the hammer) not from the Rook himself.
So the best direction to flee when the hammer comes down (when the bug is fixed) is whatever direction is the shortest route out of the AoE radius. I think in alot of cases this will still be through the Rook's legs, because you often start closer to the Rook when the animation starts than otherwise, and fleeing away from him actually puts you closer to the point of impact.
So all my theories about keyhole-shaped AoE are plain wrong, but at least we know how it works now.
And for all you Rook enthusiasts - he didn't confirm this would make it into a build we are going to see, but the devs were testing a ground-targeted Hammerslam last night.
Thanks Vundarbread
lol, what can we do to stop him.
Anyway I can prove hammer is fked because in a game today I took full damage and I was slowed at the same time. The slow effect should only be applied to those that avoid the damage radius. Not that we need proof
People who played against me saw that I have much hp. This is due to some item too. im not at 7k hp with 0 item of hp. I have aprox 3 item that give me more hp.
Cant wait to see this hammer slam fixed and Ill be verry happy if it become a ground-targeted Hammerslam.
all aoe spells should be ground targeted
We dont need proof, everyone already know The Rook use snipe Hammer....
I wonder if gpg/stardock is following this thread...
Hope they are. Btw my only real reason why I dodn't like how much health Rook has is because he can tele out. If he couldn't I might be fine with it.
When someone can teleout like you said its because they have chosen the right moment to do so. give me 100k hp and if I wait too long, you can forget my tele out.
Btw I can teleout with every demigod and im sure most other player that keep an eye on their HP can do so.
In beta 2D almost every demigods have more HP. so its not a problm imo.
