Does anyone know of any software for xp or windows 7 that would create a 3d desktop? I've already tried 3DNA. It was pretty cool but didnt really have a good selection of skins.
Hi Xprojectd24!
To be honest, no... I have a tough enough job with the 2D one....wish I could help, though. Read about 360Desktop here.
And it has a link to the download site.
Wasn't really what I was looking for. I've used that program before. It only extends the desktop to either side. It doesnt create a 3d desktop. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I would recommend DeskSpace made by Otakusoftware. It looks beautiful and works fairly fast as long as you don't have a huge amount of 3rd party installations for customizing your desktop and interface.
Looking more for something where the desktop is a 3d space, not multiple desktops on a 3d platform. the software looks cool though.
Good luck.
Xprojectd24 it would be nice if Stardock could find a way to incorporate a 3d desktop say with WindowBlinds 7. Then they would just need to make DesktopX Themes, Widgets and Objects work with it.
It would be a cool feature. Now, if I can just figure the right ear to whisper that into.
Would take a hell of a lot of memory and processing power\ speed to execute anything remotely similar to what your looking for.
Pretty much why you can't won't anything along those lines.
Would be like having a hi qual video game running while you used your pc.
I'm sure it would vStyler, though jsut about everything you read these day says that 64 bit OS will kill off 32 bit OS. That and the new CPUs and new faster memory could mean the power/speed may be here soon.
It'll be here someday indeed.... not today
Are you looking for this..It works in 3D environment.....Below is a link to download.com

Love that program. it just doesn't have enough free maps. if only i could find a place to download more free maps!
Think I might have found something

tell me what you think
Looks good.
There are some more bumptop, real desktop, 360 desktop
If you search for 3d desktop @ youtube you can watch many 3D desktops in action before making ur decision..
Look for bumtop video here.
Hope you get some help.
Thanks alot superman . bumptop and Real desktop are one kind of 3d desktop that i'm looking for. Real desktop is a resource hog, but I dont know about bumptop. Ill check it out. so far i like what i see. the other type of 3d desktop is one like 3dna, so if anyone finds one that is similar or has some extra maps for 3dna, i'm still open.
Most welcome.
Did you see 3dna gallery at its website for more maps!
Those were the few I knew about. You can look for more here Hope that proves to be an easy choice.
BumpTop is interesting, I'm running the beta. It's definetely smoother running than Real Desktop. They both look cool, but imho Stardock Fences does more for the desktop than all that 3D stuff...
Here's another "BumpTop" video, it quite accurately reflects some of the feel I get from using it.
Where did you get the beta?
I'm part of the private beta, so I got it from the developers.
Sign up for the invite.
I can't open the bumptop website today. Avast won't let me...
Seems like they got infested with something nasty on their page... Norton blocked the nasty, and let me browse the page... Score Norton 1 - Avast 0 on usability. It *could* be a false positive, but with 2 detection engines catching it, I wouldn't go to that site unprotected for now.
I have to agree with V and say working with PC controlled Audio and Video while it is comming the processing demands for a real time 3D enviroment would be unreal!
I am not a huge Linux fan but the way some of the OS versions are designed It will probably be most likely to happen there first!
EX.........
Video rendering tests I have done
*XP-sp2 64 bit single core AMD processor....90min video encoded to mpeg4 from avi. took 2hrs and 15min ..new $1200
(56 processes running)
*Vista 64 bit core2 Quad Intell processor.....90min video encoded to mpeg4 from avi. took 45min................new $2500
(62 processes running)
*Linux KDE Dual core AMD processor...........90min video encoded to mpeg4 from avi. took 27min................new $800
(9 processes running)
This is due mainly to the fact that mostservices in windows run all the time where as Linux is more of an on demand kinda system
Anyway untill we can do it for real these might help give you a good feel!
AZUL 3D Windowblind
3D Metal Windowblind
Yes but it would be temporary. They will fix it soon.

Link removed.....link to their site...not to a file directly. [Admin]
Actually, any 3D desktop interface would use the GPU to accelerate and render this with pixel shaders for any special render operations. There'd be no CPU or tradional scan-line rendering required.
