I just finished purchasing Ultimate Object Desktop and was under the impression that I was going to have an awesome looking desktop. It almost appears that I got a shareware version of everything because there's not much in each of the programs that I received. When on the website for instance I see a bootskin of some nice looking pictures, yet every picture I've chosen to be in my bootup doesn't appear, just a washed out version of a Vista backdrop, which I didn't choose to have load. Do I have to try and build all the nice desktops I see on Stardocks Website, or do I have to pay over a hundred dollars added to what I've already spent to get those beautiful desktops that I see? There's some really neat looking icons that someone has taking a long time to create, but those didn't come in my download either. My Colors has really nothing in it as well.

Brian...have you downloaded Impulse, and installed your software? Have you put your email address in Impulse Rt. upper corner?
Have you downloaded any skins? If you had the Trialware on your computer have you uninstalled it before installing your purchased software?
Brain, have you found the stuff yet?
Hi guys and thanks for such a fast response. I did have a trialware version on and tried to install the full version but had a whole lot of problems trying to register it. I was using Dreamscapes or something like that. I had the dragon one for the desktop. I tried tech support by email but didn't get a response from them, and then I thought, "Maybe I should uninstall the whole thing and re-install". Then it worked OK. I still would get popups saying that it had problems registering my software. It says it's going to expire on 1/14/10 so that's right. When I try to register each program separately I still get an error that it can't register it. Man.... I was so excited to have one of those nice desktops and nothing exciting except a partial Dragon desktop with Vista's icons. I don't have the old buck for the Recycle Bin or nothing. No, I'm not crying, only my bottom lip is sticking out.
If you're having problems, Brian...I'd uninstall ALL of the SD software and reboot and do a clean install through Impulse of all the software.
You shouldn't have to register each app. Just register ObjectDesktop.
THat may be part of your problem.
Any trial version should be uninstalled prior to installed full versions.Disableing antivirus programs while installing is also a good idea.
There is a small application, that fully removes any and all Stardock applications from your system. Just to give you a fresh start. Stardock Zapper-> [link]
HAHAHA visualizing: lill' kid pouting in the corner... LOL(That was not to muck you in any way. It just made me laugh!)
Thanks again you guys. When I was installing Object Desktop I hadn't entered any reg keys and I got a popup that said the key number was invalid, so I closed the popup and continued installing the software. I wondered why each program had a registration icon in it since I bought all the stuff as a package I'd assumed. I have a spyware blocker running in the background (Webroot Spysweeper) and I know I should have closed it before installing because it blocked the program while installing and then I closed it. When I get home tonight from work I'll uninstall it and reinstall and hopefully it will work fully then. I'm so impressed with what I've seen on the web about this stuff. Wholly crap!!!
Brian, come back and let us know how it works out. Follow the suggestion in the above replies and you should be okay. I would turn of you anti-virus and anti-malware just to get it downloaded and then turn them back on. Did we establish that you are running Vista? If so, 32 or 64 bit?
Hi Philly. I'm running Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I have 64-bit on my Notebook Computer. I'm hoping to put the program on it as well. I'll definately be back to let you guys know how it all went. You've been most helpful and I thank you so much.
The community tries to help as best as it can. When all else fails we will point you in the direction of the support folks. You shouldn't have any problesm with the 32 bit, some folks though run into minor problems with 64 bit. When you get to that point ask your questions again.
I don't run Vista, but what I've seen folks do also to download is to turn off UAC before downloading, you can turn it back on afterwards and make sure you are running in or as admin.
Brian...Welcome to WinCustomize
It's a wonderful community and you'll find that people around here will try thier best to assist you.
Hey Guys. I'm just so amazed at how friendly and helpful you all are. It's really a pleasure having a problem with this program!
It will work out and then to the good part get all the goodies from here so you get that sleek desktop you have always wanted! And after a little while you open up SKS and start making your own stuff when your first blind is done there is no turning back
Welcome Brian
Begs teh question, is there a prompt for that? If not, should be... if not completely automated like other software does,
Nope.
Agreed.
If you create a case to support for stuff like that, I can ASSURE you that SOMEONE will see it.
Wow!! That has to have been the most difficult programs to uninstall. It's taken over 1-1/2 hours. It just doesn't want to leave. I tried the link that was gien to me which first appeared to work fine until it came to the larger programs and then that's when all the problems started. I think it's all gone now, so I have to start to redownload and install again. Bootskin was a real problem. I can't get the Vista boot skin loading anymore. I still get the washed out one that bootskin gave me. I don't know if I'll ever get the original back again. I had to restore my computer to about 2 days before installing stardock software. I think I'll start the task again tomorrow after downloading Impulse. I'm going to download and try one program at a time and see how it works. I'll install bootskin again just to see if I can get my original Vista bootskin back again and then uninstall bootskin for good. That program hasn't impressed me at all. I'll keep you guys informed on my progress and if you have any idea's to make this less painful, I'm all ears & eyes.
Using Impulse in the way to install the programs. Not difficult, but don't rush it.
As was suggested before, register Object Desktop Ultimate with the information in the email you should have received.
Once you do that all of the individual programs should and will show up under the My Desktop tab. WindowBlinds will need a reboot of the computer after install. I really can't remember if others will, if you do need to it will prompt you.
On your BootSkin problem, don't know what to say other then whether you run XP or Vista you can have problems with BootSkins.
I believe reinstalling Boot skin and then setting it back to the default will Change it. Bootskin is one of those programs that you have to reset to defaults before uninstalling or it will remain changed to what ever you set it at.
Morning All. Well, so far it's been a very productive morning. I've downloaded, removed previous Impulse using Impulse, and reinstalled it. Then I downloaded bootskin, restored my Vista bootskin to original, and now I'm going back in. I'll download Object Desktop first and hopefully it will ask for registration right away and hopefully things will go smoothly. I've shut down Webroot so I shouldn't have any Spyware popup warnings from the Firewall filter. I'll keep you posted. OK, now I've successfully uninstalled bootskin pro with Impulse, but now I'm stuck. Which program should I install to give me the best chance of having a great looking desktop with the most amount of choices? I know that's a tough question, but you guys have moe experience than me with this program so I'm asking for you wisdom.
You might want to start with WindowBlinds, Icon Packager, CursorFX, DestktopX. Those, in my opinion give you losts of flexibility. Download and install of the the programs that you received with Object Desktop Ultimate and then try each one out. Then you will hooked like the rest of us.
Thanks so much Philly & Wizard. I had tried Right Click before but found that the font was so tiny I could hardly read the options. Is there a way to increase the font size on it? You guys have been such a great help and inspiration for me. I've got a feeling I'll be on this forum for quite a while before I get comfortable with all the software. I'll be back later to let you know how I've done.
Brisn
Note that rightclick doesn't work properly on 64bit vista.
