Well I finally got Windows 7 installed on my laptop. The only issue I had was getting the partitioning right, but that was my problem.
Installation took about 10 minutes, and in about 20 minutes overall I was on the desktop ready to work. Very impressive!
So far, Windows 7 seems very fast and haven’t run into any problems as of yet. No problems with application compatibility yet, and I’m really liking some of the design changes.
Still have a lot to go through, but my initial quick impression is great!
I'm almost ready to install myself. Got a new HD so I could dedicate the older one to W7. Just gotta load the .ISO and away I go.
I've installed it on a virtual machine on my computer. No hardware accelerated stuff, so I can't test any games and I don't get the fancy desktop stuff, but so far the OS itself seems to work fine.
Note to Stardock: Check for Flash before installing applications that require Flash!
Remember: Flash, although extrememly popular, is not installed by default on a clean Windows install.
I've had an install of Win7 since last Friday, and it's pretty nice so far. Some of it's default UI options bug me, but that's just a matter of taste. I'm very impressed with what I've seen so far though. Vista betas at this stage usually had me tearing my hair out in frustration. This build is actually usable for regular surfing, email etc.
I was surprized at how little time it took to install myself.
Don't forget to go to Microsoft and download the mp3 patch / media player fix.
Also, If you need flash, here's where you can download Flash 9 instead of 10, so you can still upload to WinCustomize.
i imagine it takes time to save your system specs, like folders and programs right? thats why im waiting till win7 gets out of beta.
I've had it installed on my laptop for several days now. Tried some Stardock stuff on it, posted what works, what don't. Prelims. Got sidetracked with some wallpapers and never got back to it.
so...can you download windows 7 or do you have to buy it?...im interested!! .. and does it just install over vista?
You download it. You can upgrade from vista a fresh install
Kitty...you can get it here. I would dual boot instead of installing over your existing copy of Vista
Well I just tried to run the gadgets that come with the Beta and it seems that after a few reboots they don't run. At least for me.
Yes, Kitty, it's a BETA, so I wouldn't recommend upgrading an existing Vista PC with important stuff you use every day on it.
2 gig isn't it? if I start downloading now, I should have it by 2040
Broadband, adsl, what a crock!!!!
Windowblinds not working on 64 bit.....Iconpackager doing good.......Cursor FX doing ok. Don't know about anything else so far.
Hard to say, something asked for flash.ocx and I guess I clicked too fast to check it out. I think it was Impulse?
This is a BETA version of Windows 7. It is not meant to replace your current OS, and it will quit working August 1st.
The Beta is a free download, but you will have to buy Windows 7 when it is released.
If you do decide to replace your current OS, you should back up any important documents and preferably make a disk image of the hard drive before hand.
You will get that error from Impulse if you do not have Flash loaded.
Hmm. I wish I knew where. I thought there was a flash file in the store at one point. It freaked me out when it started to auto-play when I was on a different tab. I thought it was removed.
Phoon wonder how long till the Windows 7 popularity @#$%'s start in with skins...
Installed it into virualpc "computer"...
It ran faster than XP IN VIRTUALPC! Amazing indeed... I can't wait to buy it.
Congrats ID! Did you dual-boot? Hope everything's running smoothly!
Also, don't forget about Win 7's Wallpaper SlideShow feature!
And to those who can't get their Vista partition to show up under Win 7 and are freaking out right now:
1. Right-click My Computer.
2. Click "Manage". (Note that UAC might pop up.)
3. In the "Computer Management" window that appears, select "Disc Management".
4. You should see your other partitions, only without letters assigned to them. Right-click and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths".
5. The box that appears will easily help you mount your partitions in Windows 7.
6. DONE! Enjoy Windows 7!
Took me only a few hours on 'Pond's ADSL ...
HOW Jafo!!?!?!?!!?!! I'm with them too, wtf is going on with them!! I d/load at 25k max
