In 2007 i created 2 fleets after getting inspired by too many ship designers to list them all here) - one for the Terrans and one for the Altarians.
In 2008 i followed the Ship Design Thread again with great interest, but was not able to participate because of r/l.
Now a new year has started. I think it's time to start a new thread where this year you and i all can show the ship designs we created.
It doesn't matter if they were done with Dread Lords, Dark Avatar or even with Twilight of the Arnor. Just show what you think you like to show.

2007 Ship Designs
2008 Ship Designs
I got Twilight of the Arnor at the end of november and played around with the new functions. What got my greatest interest was the external ship designer. After having a look at all the retextured ship parts i decided to redesign my terran fleet. The first fighters constructed with the ship designer started again to look a bit like Wing Commander so i looked up on the net and found many pictures of fighters and capital ships of that game. I tried my best to recreate them whereever that was possible or to get at least a similar look. All of my ships were designed completely without the use of mods what should make them metaverse-usable.Greetings

Banshee Class Fighter Bomber (Fighter Bomber Type 03)
The A-20 Banshee Fighter Bomber was developed in parallel with the F-98 Phantom Heavy Fighter. Both designs share the same hull and the same cockpit layout. The Banshee was a turning away from traditional fighter bomber design since it didn't have a turret at the rear for self defense. The ship rather relied on its own built in radar jammers und ecm-equipment. Armament consisted of a black hole generatior cannon and nightmare torpedoes.
Greetings
Barracuda Class Heavy Fighter (Heavy Fighter Type 01)
The F-18 Barracuda Heavy Fighter was developed by Lockheed Aerospace as its first real starfighter. The Barracuda was designed to be a pure defense fighter, being capable of atmospheric flight and stationed on planets so a jump drive was not needed. The Barrucada is massing 22 Tons. It was such a successful design that it was bought in large quantites direct from the drawing board.
Bengal Class Strike Carrier
The Bengal Class strike carrier was developed as a carrier which was far different than those which were in service at the time. It was a new type of fleet carrier with much heavier offensive weaponry compared to earlier designs. In addition, the ships carried heavier armor and were slightly faster than previous carriers. These new carriers were able to operate more independently than previous carriers due to having the ability to defend themselves. The brilliant design allowed the carrier to handle new fighters as they were put into service with only having to be modified to deal with the huge Broadsword bomber.
Black Knight Class Survey Ship
The Black Knight Class survey/reconnaissance ship were designed and built by Grumman Aerospace. These ships are basically identical with the Leader Class Corvettes - they share the same hull. In contrast to the corvette the Black Knight Class ships have been stripped of all weapons to make room for the electronic equipment. In addition they have been more streamlined to get more speed out of them, which is essential for covert ops. The first ship of this class got its name from the infamous reconnaissance squadron 54th TRS "Black Knights".
Broadsword Class Heavy Bomber (Heavy Bomber Type 01)
The A-17 Broadsword bomber was manufactured by Douglas Aerospace which is well known for the production of the Ferret patrol fighter in addition to the heavy bomber. The Broadsword bomber served as the Confederations primary torpedo bomber for over thirty-five years. The Broadsword is the heaviest "fighter" in service with the Confederation military and is classified as a "Heavy Bomber." The bomber masses in the area of 100 tons, has massive armor, powerful shields, and three defensive turrets.
Citadel Class Orbital Defense Platform (Orbital Defense Type 01)
The OD-54A Citadel was the first orbital defense platform being built by Boeing Aerospace. It was designed to fend off alien invasion forces by being equipped with 2 F-34 Dolphin interceptors, missiles, and laser cannons in turrets mounted above and below the platform. The first platform went online 2236 after long and intensive tests. It mass amounts to 8500 tons and the crew which is neccessary to run the plaform is stated with 45.
@ Midnightrunner: Those are some awesome ships - Great Job!

City Class Colonyship
The City Class colonyship design, developed by Douglas Aerospace in the mid 2220's, stemmed from the time, before human scientists discovered artificial gravity. It has a rotating module, which rotates around a shaft in the axis of the ship. The city class was to replace the sleeper ships, which were still in use during that time. This new class became such a successful design, that it never really got changed over the following decades. Each colonist had its own cabin during the trips to new worlds. Equipment and shuttles were stored in a huge hangar on upper deck, from which the shuttles could start after opening the hangar doors.
Concordia Class Fleet Carrier
The Concordia Class fleet carrier is one of the oldest designs operated by the Confederation Navy. The first ship of the class commissioned back in 2263 and the class was built as a counter to alien interest in using carriers with the invention of the effective strike fighter. Based around its main hanger bay, a single Concordia Class carrier can support over ninety fighters and bombers. Fighter compliments had to be cut slightly when the carriers embarked A-17 Broadsword bombers due to their huge size. Concordia Class carriers are massive vessels which are heavily armored with the latest shielding tech; but are rather weak on pure gun weaponry and lack missile launchers. The Concordia Class fleet carrier always relied on her fighter wing as her main striking power and normally has a battle group of escorting capital ships for support.
Confederation Class Heavy Carrier
Built around 2 huge "Doom Ray Cannons", the Confederation Class heavy carrier is a hybrid starship design which combines the sheer firepower of a battleship with the fighter launching capability of a fleet carrier. It was a battleship that had happened to carry a fighter wing, rather then a carrier that happened to have the weaponry of a battleship. Each Confederation-Class heavy carrier can carry more fighters then a Concordia-class carrier (120 against 90) and more then triple the offensive firepower of the newest alien heavy cruisers. Fighter complement is normally 4 squadrons of light fighters, 3 squadrons of medium fighters, 2 squadrons of heavy fighters, and 1 squadron of heavy bombers.

Constellation Class Freighter
Although it looks like that the Constellation Class freighter design was developed in the mid 2220's by Douglas Aerospace in the time before human scientists discovered artificial gravity, was it actually a design after artificial gravity was discovered. The reason for keeping the rotating module to create gravity was that is was cheaper to use the old reliable design than to implement the new technology. Because of frequent attacks on confederation freighters the navy equipped them with 2 dual defense lasers mounted in turrets above and below the fuselage directly behind the main bridge and one turret below the engine section for rear defense.
Crossbow Class Fighter Bomber (Fighter Bomber Type 01)
The A-18 Crossbow Fighter Bomber was developed by Douglas Aerospace as a potential replacement for the A-17 Broadsword heavy bomber. The Crossbow was designed to be both much more maneuverable and have greater acceleration than the larger Broadsword. The Crossbow is much less massive, only massing 40 tons compared to 100 tons for the A-17 Broadsword. Unfortunately, even though the Crossbow was much smaller than the Broadsword bomber, the Crossbow was not small enough to operate from escort carriers so a new bomber was designed based on the Sabre heavy fighter.
@ juicemz: You have some really nifty designs over there. I like the overall "look" of them.
Epee Class Light Fighter (Light Fighter Type 04)
The Epee was developed by Douglas Aerospace as a replacement for the old F-36 Hornet light fighter. The new F-54 Epee reached squadron status in 2261. Far more advanced that the fighter it replaced, the Epee was packed with sophisticated sensors, powerful plasma cannons, decoy systems, and other advanced technological features that made it seem very impressive on paper. Problem was that the theory proved far better than reality and the Epee quickly acquired a poor reputation amongst combat pilots. Designers felt the reputation which the Epee had with pilots was undeserved with most pilots comparing the Epee to the Rapier medium fighter.
Federal State Class Battle Cruiser
In actuality, the Federal State class was not developed from previous battleship designs and might more appropriately be considered a "Super Cruiser" due to having been developed from the Prime Minister Class design. Their primary role was to act as flagships and command and control vessels. Often they were assigned to carrier battle fleets as the command ship for the escort group. The battlecruisers were constructed in the mid 2290's as a solution to the Confederation's need for a large ship to fill the role originally performed by battleships but able to keep up with the carrier battle groups which were becoming the mainstay of the Confederation forces.
Ferret Class Patrol Fighter (Light Fighter Type 02)
The Ferret was originally designed by Douglas Aerospace as an in-system security patrol fighter. The patrol fighter soon entered service with the Confederation Space Force due to pilots preferring the Ferret over the Epee and due to a shortage of Epee light fighters. The Ferret is more austere than the Epee and is far less expensive to manufacture than the more advanced Epee. Main weaponry of the Ferret was a pair of mass drivers. While not as long ranged as particle beams, the weapons are very reliable and effective. Douglas Aerospace introduced an upgraded version of the Ferret, the P-64D "Super Ferret." Improvements in the "Super Ferret" include an improved flight control system, better countermeasure systems, and the addition of a pair of missile hard points.
Gemstone Class Space Miner
The Gemstone Class space miner design, developed by Douglas Aerospace in the mid 2220's, stemmed from the time, before human scientists discovered artificial gravity. It has a rotating module, which rotates around a shaft in the axis of the ship. The Gemstone Class was to replace the old space miners which were still in use during that time. Located in the middle of the upper deck were the ore processing facilities. where the raw materials were converted to precious metals. Storage containers for precious metals were on each lower side of the fuselage. Because of a high degree of automation, this ship class only needed 11 crew members.
Gilgamesch Class Destroyer (Destroyer Type 02)
The Gilgamesh class destroyer first entered service in the mid 2260's and was developed as a replacement for the Exeter class destroyer. As with most destroyers, the primary role is escort but the firepower of the Gilgamesh is far greater than the vessel it replaced and the ship can go toe to toe with virtually any other capital ship. The ships are extremely fast for destroyers and can out accelerate virtually any other capital ship. Due to this, the destroyers have the ability to make a run for it if they are overwhelmed. This high acceleration also allows them to catch other ships trying to escape. The same engine is also carried on the Wake Island Class escort carrier.
