1) My game keeps crashing, is there anything I can do to stop it?i) Are you running the game on maximum (highest) settings? if so, lower them to High or Medium, there is a known issue with the game using up too much memory, there is nothing we can do about this, also no matter how powerful your pc is, it is affected by this issue no matter the pc it is not above this crashing issue, it is a game problem not a hardware one, so quite simply lower your settings. If you still have an issue with crashing see point two.ii) Give us as detailed information as possible about the crash, what was happening at the time of the crash, what races, ships, abilities were involved. If you can supply a Debug Log (see above for more information about logging) and post a bug report on our website.
2) The loading screens and portrait pictures dont appear properly, whats wrong?i) This is an issue with ATI based graphics cards (rarely affects Nvidia based cards) we're looking in to the issue.
3) Why dont you support converting Distant Stars in to TXT format?i) Quite simply many things can go wrong with converting your mod to TXT, we cant help you with something you've probably broken yourself.
4) Can I mod Distant Stars for myself?i) Yes you can however please do not distribute our mod or our mod that you have edited to the public. You must ask for permission to do so, we will regrettably stop distributing our mod to all if users abuse our work.
5) Your mod is in BIN format I can't edit the files, what can I do?i) You can convert the mod to TXT format however we wont offer any support to versions of the mod that have been converted to TXT.
6) Why is Distant Stars distributed in BIN format? i) Mods load faster in BIN format and are less likely to have issues in this format.
7) I'm having trouble installing the MOD, do you have any more instructions?i) Carbon was kind enough to do some more advanced instructions out here.
8) Is there any way to make new maps for Distant Stars using GalaxyForge?i) Within the Distant Stars Extras folder there is a folder called Galaxy Forge, Copy and Paste this folder (or its contents) over your original Galaxy Forge folder (or its contents) replacing any files if it asks you to. When you start Galaxy Forge next you'll be able to use all of our planets.
Or, the DIY approach (without custom icons):
ii) The GalaxyForge supplied by the devs will still work with our Mod, however to be able to access all of our planetary bonuses, templates, planet types and stars you will need to take our GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef (found in the GameInfo folder of the mod) and place it in to your GalaxyForge folder, overwriting the original GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef (if you still wish to make maps for the original game keep a backup of the original file). This will allow you to use all of the Galaxy changes included in our mod.
Note: Any maps made for Distant Stars will not work with other Mods. See #8.2 for DIY instructions for map making or take the appropriate files from Entrenchment, they're cross-client compatible.
Some statistics...

Thanks to everyone that has supported us this far and making our mod as popular as it is!
there was a problem like that?
AND
Me too stant...me too
(empty space la de da)
I have a question. This mod is awesome, adds more content to the game. I have a problem though. When I play as TEC or Advent, no problems. I can play on large maps and have no issues. However, when I try to play games as the Vasari, I get a few hours into a game and get a minidump. Any ideas what is causing this?
Nope. Its a core game bug.
No clue. Will start looking into it.
Thanks for letting me know.
Any information you could provide like what factions are in the game, to the best of your knowledge what is going on in the universe at the time of the crash, like who is shooting who, what stars are in game, what planets, does it happen every single time at a certain point does it happen when you reload from a save game, etc... The more you provide the better help we can give you since we can narrow down causes easier.
If you have a save game file, it would be extremely helpful if a copy can be posted. Then I can load it up and see what errors are happening if any at all and have a look through the galaxy myself. I don't work tomorrow, but I do have my daughters spending the night with me, so I can probably get to it pretty quick, but no promises.
^ This.
I believe Auto-Saves work as well as manual save files correct?
It might be a tech we missed.
Yes, auto saves work the same, they're just automatic.
I think I ran into the same problem a while back, but i think someone already either released a small fix(buried back some 15-20 odd pages ago) or I minidumped from my tinkering. I remember it got a little mad about some of my defensive tweaks to the platforms(especially the gauss abilities, good lord it had a damn aneurism when I modified those >.>) learned that the biggest issue apparently was the missile's target number, and adding a stack counter to the debuff on the BFG(big friggin gun) for less armor per shot, but stacking at a max of-12 pissed the game off. by the way though, fr as long as it did work, HOLY CRAP I loved it, turned those fully teched TEC Kols into squishy targets made of marshmellow when they dove head long into a defensive line(made their shield passive too, but thinking of making it a "toggle" ability, consume 2 antimatter/sec(probably alot more than that but w/e 5 maybe) anyway, lots of thoughts for the Tec's toys...but more focused on (working title- Chain Reaction mine-fields) then i'll tweak my long game some more
It happens to every Vasari game I play. I usually play large 9 player FFA maps (150-200 planets, one random star). I have three games that I'm bouncing back and forth between, one for each. The TEC game is around 6-7 hours game time, the Advent is aound 3-4 hours. All of my Vasari games crash around 2-3 hours. I've tried lowering the graphics, but it crashes around the same point everytime. How do I load a save game on here?
Upload it somewhere (like google sites if you have a gmail account already) and then post a link to it here. Gonna run a high speed game with everyone set to AI's and cycle through in the mean time to see what happens.
Do you use Returning Armada?
Are your ships using a Phase Gate?
Are you running the game at faster speeds?
Are you exploring a particular planet at that time? Having a battle?
In your other games are you fighting Vasari?
While the saved game will help alot. Help us narrow down what to look for and at while we are watching your 3 hours of gameplay.
Given you map preference...There is alot going on I assume after 2 hours. Help us, help you by telling us what is going on in the game around that time. I can only watch 2 things at once when watching your replay.
I normally don't get a chance to research Returning Armada, and I don't use it when I do. Same for Phase Gates. I'm running the game at normal speeds. Different maps and it's never at the exact same moment, sometimes it will crash earlier than the rest, others I might get another minute or two. After a crash, I've tried changing whatever plans I had made before the crash (if I had a fleet heading towards a planet, I diverted them to a different planet, etc), no luck. I'm not sure what's going on around the rest of the map, haven't explored it by that point. I will try to work on the save game file and post the link as soon as I get to it. Thank you all for the help
I've loaded it in the Replays section on the Media page here on website. Look for a replay titled: Troubleshooting.
It's not showing up yet, so we're probably going to have to wait a day or two for that.
Dropbox works great for stuff like this. Download their dropbox application and all you have to do is drop it in a folder, right click on the file and copy the public URL.
I downloaded and installed your mod and it seemed to activate properly but for some reason whenever I play, no matter what faction I choose, it gives me a random faction instead. I recently choose TEC 5 times in a row and instead it had me as Vasari once and Avent the other four times, each with different seemingly random defenses and ships to start with. How do I play the faction I want to play with this mod?
What map are you trying to play?
Ok, loading the save game on wicustomize didn't work so I went with DropBox. Here's the link: https://www.dropbox.com/home#/sins%20saves:::
Uh, I don't think that worked. You should have a link like:

Sirrius Odyssey
It's not a problem with the mod, it's the map you're choosing. Read its description.
"Fleeing as outcasts from the Sol System, the ancestors of the Advent reach Sirrius."
DS incorporates Celestial Bodies into it and the CB in front of the name means it comes from that. Many of the CB maps are set up like a campaign with a specific purpose in mind. This particular map pits Advent against the Vasari. You're not getting a random faction. The map will override your selection every single time because that's how it was set up. It's the same thing as the CB map Birth of the Trade Order. All four factions are TEC no matter what you pick because it wouldn't be very correct to have Advent and Vasari on that map as they didn't exist (technically) during the creation of the Trade Order.
Play one of the other maps that isn't prefaced with CB and you should be fine.
That is a CB(Celestial Body) map. Most of those are suppose to be played as the faction it gives you.
Its what the designer of those maps had in mind for map based story/campaign.
So Ryat. Guess what I just saw? I'm playing a 6 player game (as Vasari) against 5 AI's trying to get the thing to crash, and I cycled through the players and queued up the flagship research for every player and continued playing the game... After awhile I get word that I lost a couple of caps one after the other and I look... 3 of the AI's brought in flagships to spank my starbase and fleet holding a choke point into my empire. So at least I can confirm that as long as the item is researched, they will build the ship... And as long as the escape pods stay as the cargo role type, they hide at home until converted. Though the in game behavior is to respawn the damned thing immediately after the escape pod reappears leading to a chain of fighting forever, so we'll probably need to have a look at creating a delay before the ability can be used so that they flee first.
AWESOME!
True, maybe a 5 minute delay or something.
Hi,
First of all let me tell you that I am having great fun with the mod after being away from the game for quite a while.
One thing that I remember reading in this thread was how to remove the ability of the AI to use the superweapons but for the love of god (and my sanity) I am unable to find it even with Google search . (I bet its somewhere close and I just can't see it).
Anyway, could anyone tell me how to remove the ability of the AI to use/build superweapons? 10v1 Hard AI feels kind unfair as my planets get bombarded all the time.
It would be great if there was a mini mod for it as well, as I would hate losing both my 10h+ savegames .
Thanks!
