Lore:We know some of you guys love to role play whilst using Distant Stars, and here's a topic for you guys to post all of your role playing stories, character profiles and anything else you can imagine.

Frequently Asked Questions
All files are compressed using 7Zip to shrink the download filesize. To extract these files you must use WinRAR or 7Zip.Any Patches should overwrite the original install directory, either by extracting over the original folder, or cut/copy & pasting over the existing file/folder structure.
1) My game keeps crashing, is there anything I can do to stop it?i) Are you running the game on maximum (highest) settings? if so, lower them to High or Medium, there is a known issue with the game using up too much memory, there is nothing we can do about this, also no matter how powerful your pc is, it is affected by this issue no matter the pc it is not above this crashing issue, it is a game problem not a hardware one, so quite simply lower your settings. If you still have an issue with crashing see point two.ii) Give us as detailed information as possible about the crash, what was happening at the time of the crash, what races, ships, abilities were involved. If you can supply a Debug Log (see above for more information about logging) and post a bug report on our website.
2) The loading screens and portrait pictures dont appear properly, whats wrong?i) This is an issue with ATI based graphics cards (rarely affects Nvidia based cards) we're looking in to the issue.
3) Why dont you support converting Distant Stars in to TXT format?i) Quite simply many things can go wrong with converting your mod to TXT, we cant help you with something you've probably broken yourself.
4) Can I mod Distant Stars for myself?i) Yes you can however please do not distribute our mod or our mod that you have edited to the public. You must ask for permission to do so, we will regrettably stop distributing our mod to all if users abuse our work.
5) Your mod is in BIN format I can't edit the files, what can I do?i) You can convert the mod to TXT format however we wont offer any support to versions of the mod that have been converted to TXT.
6) Why is Distant Stars distributed in BIN format? i) Mods load faster in BIN format and are less likely to have issues in this format.
7) I'm having trouble installing the MOD, do you have any more instructions?i) Carbon was kind enough to do some more advanced instructions out here.
8) Is there any way to make new maps for Distant Stars using GalaxyForge?i) Within the Distant Stars Extras folder there is a folder called Galaxy Forge, Copy and Paste this folder (or its contents) over your original Galaxy Forge folder (or its contents) replacing any files if it asks you to. When you start Galaxy Forge next you'll be able to use all of our planets.
Or, the DIY approach (without custom icons):
ii) The GalaxyForge supplied by the devs will still work with our Mod, however to be able to access all of our planetary bonuses, templates, planet types and stars you will need to take our GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef (found in the GameInfo folder of the mod) and place it in to your GalaxyForge folder, overwriting the original GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef (if you still wish to make maps for the original game keep a backup of the original file). This will allow you to use all of the Galaxy changes included in our mod.
Note: Any maps made for Distant Stars will not work with other Mods. See #8.2 for DIY instructions for map making or take the appropriate files from Entrenchment, they're cross-client compatible.
Some statistics...
Since August 2009 to February 2011 we have had over...
400,000 Unique visits to the website12,000GB (12TB) of data transferred from our website
That equates to over 60,000 Unique downloads of the entire mod, excluding the excess of 20,000 Patches downloaded.
Thanks to everyone that has supported us this far and making our mod as popular as it is!
Glad to hear you like the mod and that we can bring you back. We're good with all DS stuff being in this forum. Feel free to let us know if you have any complaints, suggestions, or anything else that you have. Even if it's impossible or doesn't make the cut, we'd rather have the idea and not use it than never be given the chance.
Loved alot! The new planet types, sizes of things, new planetary weapons, even just watching the particle effects ripping my ships apart I even now play as Random as I only ever loved the Advent, but due to this mod I've fell in love with both the TEC and Vasari which I never did with Original, Entrenchment or Diplomacy.
My only real minor gripe I've kind of disliked but understood was the moving Pirate Starbase. I wanted to fight against them and thought yeah they got a SB, i can beat them easily enough (this is against 5xAI and then me playing) entered their GravWell and luckily entered it from one side, their SB on the other. To my horror yet amusing laughs which annoyed my gf at the time i was like "omfg the Argonev is moving wtf " Obviously it went down but was funny yet disconcerting so see what I thought was stationary coming at me. It kinda clicked with Orvulus Class but I never saw THAT coming!
My only real suggestion is could the pirates surely not get their own model for a starbase, bit more greenery on it, and maybe a few more alternate pirate capital ships. I just wish the Advent Battlecruisers domination could get me one
Also *twirls foot slightly* after reading some of the Lore Im tempted to begin my own. I've done RP/Alternate time line stuff for RP games on MS Group pages when I was younger so may have a bash in spare time since being made reduntant so may be spending more and more time here!
Getting a totally original model requires a modeler that can skin and do hardpoints and yadda yadda. Same for caps. It's a matter of getting someone to do it as not everyone has ideas or time and the one modeler I know personally is not the ambitious type.
Still, glad you love it and that you're enjoying the RP.
Oh sure I agree finding the time and someones ability must be daunting for a modder, shame someone of the calibre and bar you have set with this mod hasnt come forward to help, but appreciate the honest response non the less.
As I said that was the only real thing I picked up on but just means when I see it destoy it so it doesnt blur the fight with the Pirate Battleship I even enjoy losing the bounty race to see it coming...albeit into a minefield generally for easyness but still lol
Don't be surprised when they bypass your minefield and attack your world while you scramble to bring your fleet back. I can't say when exactly, but eventually they research an ability that let's them just render mines as useless space wasting devices. Enjoy.
Been off of Sins for a few months, due to RL time constraints and the Holidays. Those kicked my free time in the nuts hard
But I'm starting to get some more time free.... so I'll be reactivating the Sonar Khalid and heading to war
And I am a Graphic Artist, DS team.... actually, I made that mash up vasari flagship for ya. I could make some more models.... once I get the time. Why is there only 24 hours in a day?!?
Because if there were more ... then we'd have to work more. '

No way man, I don't think so!
Never mind I've got it figured out with GoaFan77's help.
Hey guys I made a galaxyforge map but whenever I load it I immediately get a "defeat" or "victory".
What gives?
Also when I added artifacts/bonuses to planets I set it as "noplanetowner" is that correct?
Thanks in advance!
Sounds like you forgot to give a player a planet.
Use "Always" for "NoOwner".
I have all the players assigned correctly.
I'll adjust the "always" stuff.
This is annoying lol. I want to be able to play
Where do you have yours saved?
Ok I know I can't save it to the "app" folder.
It won't let me save it to the galaxy folder though. It's saying I "need permission". Any ideas?
Ok I saved in the folder and its still doing the same shit.
It's supposed to appear in the "map designer section" right?
I followed the directions in the beginners guide threat to no avail. Very annoying.
It's in the galaxy folder but now it doesn't appear in game. When it was in the wrong folder it was in game
What's going on here?
You are not the Admin on you computer?
You save in the user data app files in the galaxy forge file folder....
C:\Users\You the admin name here\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

Where can I find an updated list of what this mod does ? The website seems a bit out of date
Coming soon.
Can be done some modification for mines, so for one click pleased 10 mines, because add on 3 mines toke some time and didn't effectively. Maybe add more mines 100, but this doesn't importantly.
As for the first, I don't know how it was done. But for the second, you can just change the max mine count on each of the planetary files.
We reduced the mine count to help with lag issues. Be warned. You increase the mine count and the game will get sluggish in later stages. This affects all computers.
Plus with the mines being so much more powerful, it takes far fewer to cover the same ground, especially when you consider that entire caps are brought down by the buggers. Play with the pirates and see the quality over quantity.
Also, if you know a little, tweaking the "tracking range" of homing mines, and the blast radius of the other mines makes it so that one little bastard that flew too close, just wiped out him and his friends
for myself: working on getting the mines to set each other off in one SPECTACULAR fireworks display , but the friend foe issue is a little bit of a problem
though, as long as the explosion is only triggered by enemies, and can effect allies i won't mind, just have to rewrite the mines to "cast on death" it'll make clearing them a little more taxing, but all the more fun
wonder if that'd work properly though lol
