Multiplayer Games:We've setup a thread for everyone to organise their multiplayer games in and also setup example times and dates for most people to meet up and start games. These are what we hope to be the main times for people to be around and want to play games together.

Please include as much information as possible, if you have an error log feel free to post it on these forums and we'll take it from there. If you can reproduce the error please include the error log (read below to find out how to enable error logs) and include as much detail on how to reproduce the problem.

Open the user.setting file (using Notepad, Wordpad or any text editor) and scroll down to the bottom 7 lines from the bottom is the line:LogOutput FALSEChange FALSE to TRUELogOutput TRUE

If you get these log files to us (you can just paste them in to a forum post) we can hopefully get your issues sorted.
Frequently Asked Questions
All files are compressed using 7Zip to shrink the download filesize. To extract these files you must use WinRAR or 7Zip.Any Patches should overwrite the original install directory, either by extracting over the original folder, or cut/copy & pasting over the existing file/folder structure.
1) My game keeps crashing, is there anything I can do to stop it?i) Are you running the game on maximum (highest) settings? if so, lower them to High or Medium, there is a known issue with the game using up too much memory, there is nothing we can do about this, also no matter how powerful your pc is, it is affected by this issue no matter the pc it is not above this crashing issue, it is a game problem not a hardware one, so quite simply lower your settings. If you still have an issue with crashing see point two.ii) Give us as detailed information as possible about the crash, what was happening at the time of the crash, what races, ships, abilities were involved. If you can supply a Debug Log (see above for more information about logging) and post a bug report on our website.
2) The loading screens and portrait pictures dont appear properly, whats wrong?i) This is an issue with ATI based graphics cards (rarely affects Nvidia based cards) we're looking in to the issue.
3) Why dont you support converting Distant Stars in to TXT format?i) Quite simply many things can go wrong with converting your mod to TXT, we cant help you with something you've probably broken yourself.
4) Can I mod Distant Stars for myself?i) Yes you can however please do not distribute our mod or our mod that you have edited to the public. You must ask for permission to do so, we will regrettably stop distributing our mod to all if users abuse our work.
5) Your mod is in BIN format I can't edit the files, what can I do?i) You can convert the mod to TXT format however we wont offer any support to versions of the mod that have been converted to TXT.
6) Why is Distant Stars distributed in BIN format? i) Mods load faster in BIN format and are less likely to have issues in this format.
7) I'm having trouble installing the MOD, do you have any more instructions?i) Carbon was kind enough to do some more advanced instructions out here.
8) Is there any way to make new maps for Distant Stars using GalaxyForge?i) Within the Distant Stars Extras folder there is a folder called Galaxy Forge, Copy and Paste this folder (or its contents) over your original Galaxy Forge folder (or its contents) replacing any files if it asks you to. When you start Galaxy Forge next you'll be able to use all of our planets.
Or, the DIY approach (without custom icons):
ii) The GalaxyForge supplied by the devs will still work with our Mod, however to be able to access all of our planetary bonuses, templates, planet types and stars you will need to take our GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef (found in the GameInfo folder of the mod) and place it in to your GalaxyForge folder, overwriting the original GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef (if you still wish to make maps for the original game keep a backup of the original file). This will allow you to use all of the Galaxy changes included in our mod.
Note: Any maps made for Distant Stars will not work with other Mods. See #8.2 for DIY instructions for map making or take the appropriate files from Entrenchment, they're cross-client compatible.

A couple of days back I posted about some issue I had. I got some great help then, but the issue stil is not resolved. Today I tried Diplomacy 1.31 with DS, I still have the same issue. I know this is being looked into, so I just want to let you know that the new release didn't change anything about that.
Look at your adress bar. For some reason the browser (or at least Firefox) adds some stuff infront, including the "yes you can". Just make sure that only the actual link is there and it's downloading fine.
lol, I had to do a double take when i got a whisper from the AI, "I'm worried about my planet, Kit-Kunis" in my last game, someone snuck an extra name into the planet name string folder

Fine fine, i use notepad alot but not notepad ++, guess i have to be less lazy
lol, using note pad will take you forever 'cause it doesn't recognize it's dealing with code and just lumps it all together.
Save yourself a headache, get notepad++ it's much easier and faster
badtune, the files are ALL TEXT(the exception is the files that have been bin converted), while the sins engine thinks they are code of differing types depending upon the file type.

I just use Notepad. It works just fine if its in txt format and not bin.
I wanna make rings appear more frequently, but I wanted it to be a universal change ;.; I have to go into each planet's entity file and alter it apparently*sulks* you guys don't mind me doing it in DS do you?
Added: HA!! found it!! it's in the entity files near the bottom.... the standard chance for rings are.05? wth .05% that's not even funny x.x that's about the same chance as the lottery!!
anyway, I found it in the reference files for OG sins, I'm not sure about using a txt converter for the whole mod, i just want the planet's files only, can anyone slap them in an e-mail and send 'em my way with Uzii's planets? I wanna make my changes DS compatible

This is a peek at the work in progress for the TEC Titan. A Kol sits next to it for comparison. It looks like a moving construction platform. If so, I imagine part of 'turning the tide' is having it build on the fly. Speculation, of course.

Cool, thanks for the help. When I went searching, I found QuestGiveMetalLow in Distant Stars. I did see the following missing though:
entityName "QuestKillCivilianModulesLow.entity"
This was located in the .\Diplomacy\entity.manifest file, but not the one located in Distant Stars. I copied and pasted it into the Distant Stars manifest, updated entityNameCount to 2202. Did I do things correctly?
I was watching out for their Facebook releases and they posted this up. I had to copy the image to photobucket in order to get it here. Glad I can help bring a couple of smiles. Will watch for other updates, but they're actually only the early stages of design. They don't have Betas planned for months. If they make it out, it'll be by the skin of their teeth and might still require significant patching to balance.
Fixed... It had extra information in on the linked text so it would take you to the wrong place. I always post the entire address of the place it's supposed to go to and if you hover over the link you should see where it links to, just because of something like this happening. If they're not the same, copy and paste the text into your address bar. Thanks for the head's up though.

I use my gmail account since the login is linked to google sites... For the small stuff like the quick fixes and maps, and lore stuff, I just upload there and link here. Recently, after taking over updating Mad Scientist, I had to sign up at Filefactory... It's not really that big of a deal to get a file linked here.
For single file or small batch of file jobs, I use dekhranic's converter since it doesn't care what folder the file is in to convert it:https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/322559

I'm pretty sure you got a bad download. My unmodified copy doesn't have any of those problems.
A note about black-5 though, phase connections to stars were left out on purpose, however you should be able to access the rest of the map via other planets.
About the wormholes, I've noticed a phenomena on random maps where the wormhole lanes sometimes go from a wormhole to a planet, leaving the other wormhole that it should have connected to, pretty much an unusable chunk of space. But that is not an issue on pre-made maps as the lanes are added in manually as well.
Downloaded the first option, I don't have a Convertdata.exe or am I missing something(these sorts of things should come with at least a few guidelines x.x)
