Multiplayer Games:We've setup a thread for everyone to organise their multiplayer games in and also setup example times and dates for most people to meet up and start games. These are what we hope to be the main times for people to be around and want to play games together.

Maps:Some of you avid map makers out there have produced some great maps but never really had them recognised because they've got lost. Well here's a topic for you to post a link to the download (we can even provide mirrors if necessary) a screenshot or two of the map for us all the preview and if enough people like it we'll even include the map in with the actual mod!

Please include as much information as possible, if you have an error log feel free to post it on these forums and we'll take it from there. If you can reproduce the error please include the error log (read below to find out how to enable error logs) and include as much detail on how to reproduce the problem.

Open the user.setting file (using Notepad, Wordpad or any text editor) and scroll down to the bottom 7 lines from the bottom is the line:LogOutput FALSEChange FALSE to TRUELogOutput TRUE
and from then on any Log files will be saved to the debug folder:Windows Vista/Windows 7: C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Windows Username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Debug or Windows XP: C:\Documents and settings\<Your Windows Username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Debug
If you get these log files to us (you can just paste them in to a forum post) we can hopefully get your issues sorted.
Frequently Asked Questions
All files are compressed using 7Zip to shrink the download filesize. To extract these files you must use WinRAR or 7Zip.Any Patches should overwrite the original install directory, either by extracting over the original folder, or cut/copy & pasting over the existing file/folder structure.
1) My game keeps crashing, is there anything I can do to stop it?i) Are you running the game on maximum (highest) settings? if so, lower them to High or Medium, there is a known issue with the game using up too much memory, there is nothing we can do about this, also no matter how powerful your pc is, it is affected by this issue no matter the pc it is not above this crashing issue, it is a game problem not a hardware one, so quite simply lower your settings. If you still have an issue with crashing see point two.ii) Give us as detailed information as possible about the crash, what was happening at the time of the crash, what races, ships, abilities were involved. If you can supply a Debug Log (see above for more information about logging) and post a bug report on our website.
2) The loading screens and portrait pictures dont appear properly, whats wrong?i) This is an issue with ATI based graphics cards (rarely affects Nvidia based cards) we're looking in to the issue.
3) Why dont you support converting Distant Stars in to TXT format?i) Quite simply many things can go wrong with converting your mod to TXT, we cant help you with something you've probably broken yourself.
4) Can I mod Distant Stars for myself?i) Yes you can however please do not distribute our mod or our mod that you have edited to the public. You must ask for permission to do so, we will regrettably stop distributing our mod to all if users abuse our work.
5) Your mod is in BIN format I can't edit the files, what can I do?i) You can convert the mod to TXT format however we wont offer any support to versions of the mod that have been converted to TXT.
6) Why is Distant Stars distributed in BIN format? i) Mods load faster in BIN format and are less likely to have issues in this format.
7) I'm having trouble installing the MOD, do you have any more instructions?i) Carbon was kind enough to do some more advanced instructions out here.
8) Is there any way to make new maps for Distant Stars using GalaxyForge?i) Within the Distant Stars Extras folder there is a folder called Galaxy Forge, Copy and Paste this folder (or its contents) over your original Galaxy Forge folder (or its contents) replacing any files if it asks you to. When you start Galaxy Forge next you'll be able to use all of our planets.
Or, the DIY approach (without custom icons):
ii) The GalaxyForge supplied by the devs will still work with our Mod, however to be able to access all of our planetary bonuses, templates, planet types and stars you will need to take our GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef (found in the GameInfo folder of the mod) and place it in to your GalaxyForge folder, overwriting the original GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef (if you still wish to make maps for the original game keep a backup of the original file). This will allow you to use all of the Galaxy changes included in our mod.
Note: Any maps made for Distant Stars will not work with other Mods. See #8.2 for DIY instructions for map making or take the appropriate files from Entrenchment, they're cross-client compatible.

I think DS should be come without the Effects so we can have a better look at the new ones in Vanilla and deceide if we want new ones or not.
That will be tested when we get there. Most of the guys here are pretty good about checking the angles.
Meanwhile, I daresay Carbon is well ahead of the curve with repsect to the rebels. As for the Titans, it's all a matter of balance. Keep in mind that the corvettes might turn the early game on its head as well. Personally, I prefer a Homeworld 1 or Cataclysm approach, where even small vessels can be brutal if used right. I imagine it's hard with these mechanics though.
As for rebel groups, I would hate to see the Lions have that issue given that they are already well out of water in the political landscape of DS. But I might have something close enough to make me happy later on.
I see the Lions as being Loyalist. I see the Free Traders as being Loyalist right now, save for the actions of a few in high places. In the lore, I'll probably actually take on both factions (Similar to Oreo's current set up). I won't be able to field more then any one else, but I'll field both types at the expense of having to provide the research stations and factories for both.
With Lord Ryat, he would be Loyalist and Lord J'rah would be Rebels. May work that in later on.
When I download the latest Diplomacy compatible and try to open with 7z it reads, "incompatible command line"--it is the file or me?
Is DS compatible for 1.19c? (i think i miss 1.19b)
I use 7z and that is what Nacey uses to zip it up. So it must be you.

Ryat, depending on what the final changes are in the official post-beta patch when it is released, what would you guess is the amount of time to tweak, add, adjust, and otherwise re-work everything that the DS team wants in the mod, into the mod?
oK--I think I got a mislabled d/l of 7z. Getting same error elsewhere now. Must be 32 bit version. Nevermind.
Anyone have the DS icons folder for GF3 location at hand? I have no icon pack for it.
Found one issue with using the beta 1 DS on beta 3 EVERYTHING works but...all the original plantes have the top and bottom mesh on it's side *tilts head starring* could just be my dl though but just wondering if anyone else saw this before I got trying to alter anything or replace stuff

I think they're pretty cool, and it hasn't grown old watching that poor Akkan/Dunov/whatever desperately trying to get to the edge of the grav well with its engines stalling every time a few tiny bombers fly past. It think that was the EWS Bombers anyway...

Carbon is not happy about this new "End-game" Weapon. And this is why...Im gonna quote someone who posted on Facebook:
"I'm teching up to this BABY soon as I can with ALL hit point techs... this thing will eat whole fleets as a snack in my hands."
So...its will be a game MP wise of he to has the most Titans will win...much like SC:FA was Experement SPAMMMMMMM. But I will be kind and share with the world what my thoughts on Titans. I have high respect for IC, Im sure they will do us proud. Corvettes give me concern also, but thats just b/c we dont know crap about either new unit(s).

Oddness.... I loaded up Distant stars after the textures were fixed, and 20 seconds after it finishes loading I get a mini dump...but I simply reopened the game and I've been playing a long game..no mini dump, DS installed Random "Just because I felt liek doing it" mini dump? lol

Anyhow, the lore just took the story (from page one) in the most obvious direction. If the TEC are corporates, then someone wants to be the majority stockholder. If Advent are religious, someone insists that the others aren't fundamental enough. If Vasari are refugees, someone feels that the whole needs to move faster. IC is just a little late to the game. That's to be expected when there's no real storyline to push their imaginations in that direction. Even StarCraft knew Raynor would turn on Mengsk before all was said and done.
I just hope that with the Titans they don't have some riddiculously HUGE starport you have to build, it'd be so impractical. I'm hoping that they do something like with starbases, make a Corvette class construction vessel that you stick somewhere and takes ages to build or something you can build from the planet's main UI menu. It would makse so much more sense to have smaller ships or constructor vessels zooming around some mammoth skeleton of a ship than some oversized assembly line for something so massive. With all the talk it'd have to be somethign at least double if not 3 times the capital shipyard and that's about the same size as a starbase soo.....yeah impractical and would be kind of an eye sore.

Edit: Adding more in place of a new post. Noticed all the mini mods aren't there this time for the new release for beta(Dynamic movement, Ryat's pirate mod,etc.). Any news or releases on those, or are you waiting for the full patch to finish?
