Hello new recruits and enlistees. Welcome to the Metaverse. This forum post is for all newcomers to GalCiv2, or just newcomers to the MV. If you're not sure what empire to join on the MV, make a reply on this post and the leaders/senators of the MV empires will take a look and offer you the chance to join their empires.
A Brief Overview on the MV
The Metaverse is one of a kind in that you can play on it whenever you want, and you don't have to go through the complicated process of setting up a game like you do in a regular Multiplayer format. You have three character slots. These slots are your tickets into the MV and into MV empires. Once you've created a character, you can choose to add him to an already existing empire. That's where this post comes in. If you are unsure about which empire to join, or if you are unsure about which empires are currently still active in the MV, this is the place to go for that information. If you have any questions or comments, post to this thread and either myself or a browsing veteran will respond as soon as possible.
I am not entirely certain on how popular this post is going to be. The MV is kind of at a standstill right now, but their are still people posting to it and adding to their empires scores. I encourage anyone who is not currently part of an empire to make a character and join one. Like I said before, any questions that you have on how to do this can be posted right here on this thread. Being active in the Metaverse is just another great part about GalCiv2.
Finally, I am going to try and keep an updated list of active MV empires, and also one of currently "dead" empires. I'm only going to list dead empires that are in the Top 15, but I will be willing to list any empire, no matter what rank, that is currently active in the MV. If a player comes to this thread and sees that their active empire isn't in my list, please feel free to drop me a reply so that I can add you to the list of actives. Also, you may have noticed that some of the active empires have their names as links. If you click on one of these links, you will be taken directly to that empire's official thread. I am more excited about Elemental than any new game for a long time. It's been how many years since Master of Magic? 15? I too would not prefer a multiplayer-focused setup for Elemental. I think TBS games generally dont lend themselves well to multi-player, and I hope they will have more of a focus on the AI and a good single-player experience. I've played Civ4, Birth of the Federation, Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire, and number of others with multiplayer, and I often found myself getting really bored with waiting for other people. Sometimes I ended up simultaneously playing another game on a separate computer while I played the multiplayer one. One game that multiplayer did work well for me was Heroes of Might & Magic 3. It's a lot lighter on the micro-management than a civilization-building 4X type of game, so turn times werent nearly so long.

Pardon me for the language but what in the name of f*ck tells you there's gonna be no MV for Galciv 3. Stardock knows that not having an MV for Galciv 3 (and 4) will piss off alot of people.
Though it's not as active as it once was, there is still a considerable contribution of games / scores being made to the GC2 MV. We've still got our empires, and we've still got our teammates and friends here at GC2.com. That's good enough for me. Whether we have a MV for GC3 or not will eventually be discussed, but I don't believe that's a huge issue right now. I certainly hope there will be an MV, and there will come a time when I'm going to keep on asking SD about it until they give me a straight answer as to if there will be an MV or not, but now is not that time (for me, at least).
@ GmOOnii: Welcome to the Metaverse! It's nice to see an Official Thread from the Adepta. Good luck on reaching that Top 20 position you've been pushing for. I'll add your link to the list above.
P.S. Just to clarify, no SD representative has specifically said there will be no MV for GC3. They've said that they're unsure if there will be an MV, but AFAIK, they haven't said there wouldn't be one.
@ Seth: I agree with you (in slightly less colorful language) that many people will be angry if there is no MV for GC3. I think that when we finally get closer to its release, there will be quite a bit of posts from GC2 fans asking if there will be an MV. When that time comes, IMHO, SD will realize they almost have to have an MV, or they will most likely lose a large portion of their business, but that's just my opinion.

I dont know how many people wouldnt buy GC3, if there is no Metaverse. I'd prefer there to be a MV, but I know that I'll be buying it either way.
Hmm i may be wrong but Brad has said, and this was back around DL 1.2 IIRC that he doesn't want a MV in GC3. Now that was in a fairly heated debate and was ~ 3 years ago, so who knows.
But givin that and also that elemental is Multiplayer and it will donte it's engine to GC3 i'd say there is every chance the MV will die here with us.
Doesnt mean we can't still submit though, there is still action on the GC1 forums so there still may be games being dropped in there....and thats alot older than GC2.
Hopefully the Geckodons can be in 3rd placeor higher on the MV by that time.

I probably should be a bit more active over at Elemental's forums, or at least look at them for once. Seeing as their engine is going to build GC3, I probably should take some more interest.
If the MV dies here, that'll be a bit of a let-down. On the plus side, I'm going to assume GC3 will at least come with some type of Multiplayer. While harder to schedule for, and given it takes an age to complete a game, it'll still be an interesting way to interact with the community and the game.
I'm also assuming that with an MV, we'll probably have some sort of "clans" thing like they do for SoaSE, which means we can still maintain the integrity of our current empires, if we so choose.
If there is no MV in GC3 at least i hope they include the local high scores like in TA for sandbox games. That coupled with something like the AM could give us our own MV, though with no cheat checks in place of course.
it's actually quiet a mystery. How can they possibily beat galciv2? what could they put in galciv3 that number 2 doesn't have?

Thnx for the welcome. You are right, it will be a long hard road as at the moment I am a I man empire, but we are still in 5th place and most of us left 2 or more years ago. Good to see they have added the tournaments also. I have made the top 5 list there. Proud of myself after not playing for over 2 years. The Metaverse seems a lot more active now. I can't say that I wouldn't buy GC3 if it didn't have MV. But I will say that it definitely has given this game its replayability. I doubt I would be playing as much as I do if i couldn't submit games. Although I only have 18 games I do play whenever I can, (which is a lot less since my wife discovered Facebook).
TBAY, you should check out the Orcas' page at the AltMeta. When the AltMeta is feeling good, it is easier to find active players because it ages out scores more quickly than the official MV. I mention "feeling good" because updates get balky sometimes and this morning I don't see your TBAY character there despite seeing several recent scores on your MV character page. Maybe Kryo can kick some code chunk for you.
Re being a solo act, unless the AltMeta is making stuff up as well as mislaying info, it looks like there are at least two characters still posting for the Orcas this year: Lethstang and Spontaneous Combustion.
I just Changed my character's name from Spontaneous Combustion to TBAY. Thebestaintyou was my first Character but I made a bet that if anyone in the guild could catch me I would change the name. Then allienz Von K joined guild and wiped me out. He and his second Character were 1 and 2 on the Metaverse for a long time. I changed thebestaintyou's name to Ivebeenhumbled. Thebestaint you was hampered by the 3 losses I posted when I first started, not Knowing how the point system worked. That is why I created Spontaneos Combustion. Hi TBAY, welcome back. If you've been gone for that long you will have missed the Twilight of the Arnor expansion, or as we say, TA. I'd encourage you to download it from Stardock and play it rather than (or in addition too) Dread Lords (DL). The TA expansion won Best Expansion of the Year at several places which is what brought the game to my attention in the first place. I liked DL a lot, but I love TA. And no, LOL, I don't work for Stardock! I've just noticed that some people are still playing DL and I believe the TA game i sjust more fun. There are also a lot of people playing Dark Avatar (DA), the first expansion, mostly I think for scoring reasons, but again, I think you can score quite well on TA, probably just as well, it's just you won't go about it the same way. Anyway, glad to see you here, and long life life to the BC Orca's.
I have a battle that I won but I don't know where to post it? I have a short story lead and few picturs. What is a ARRs post? How I put in Twilight of Arnor? I am so confused. Please help?

If you have completed a game then you should get the option to connect to the MV and post the score at the end of the game. If you do not get this option it means you were playing in sandbox mode and the game score cannot be posted to the MV. I know this because I just lost a 470K game a few weeks back because I was in sandbox mode when I htought I was in MV mode. That hurt. Make sure you start all games from the Metaverse button in the main menu.
I'm sorry, but I don't understand your Twilight of the Arnor question...
If you are asking for where to post an AAR of your game, there is a specific AAR section of the forums for that. Or you could post it in your empire thread, or really wherever you want.
I'm not sure what you mean about TA either.
GmOOnii, the AAR (after action report) area is here. It is not specific to any version of the game. You'll need to post your pictures on your own server space or on one of the 'free' picture hosting services; Stardock currently does not support direct posting of pictures for the forums, but storage does seem to be getting cheaper all the time...
