Hello new recruits and enlistees. Welcome to the Metaverse. This forum post is for all newcomers to GalCiv2, or just newcomers to the MV. If you're not sure what empire to join on the MV, make a reply on this post and the leaders/senators of the MV empires will take a look and offer you the chance to join their empires.
A Brief Overview on the MV
The Metaverse is one of a kind in that you can play on it whenever you want, and you don't have to go through the complicated process of setting up a game like you do in a regular Multiplayer format. You have three character slots. These slots are your tickets into the MV and into MV empires. Once you've created a character, you can choose to add him to an already existing empire. That's where this post comes in. If you are unsure about which empire to join, or if you are unsure about which empires are currently still active in the MV, this is the place to go for that information. If you have any questions or comments, post to this thread and either myself or a browsing veteran will respond as soon as possible.
I am not entirely certain on how popular this post is going to be. The MV is kind of at a standstill right now, but their are still people posting to it and adding to their empires scores. I encourage anyone who is not currently part of an empire to make a character and join one. Like I said before, any questions that you have on how to do this can be posted right here on this thread. Being active in the Metaverse is just another great part about GalCiv2.
Finally, I am going to try and keep an updated list of active MV empires, and also one of currently "dead" empires. I'm only going to list dead empires that are in the Top 15, but I will be willing to list any empire, no matter what rank, that is currently active in the MV. If a player comes to this thread and sees that their active empire isn't in my list, please feel free to drop me a reply so that I can add you to the list of actives. Also, you may have noticed that some of the active empires have their names as links. If you click on one of these links, you will be taken directly to that empire's official thread. @ KP: On some level, I understand you. But I'm not sure on what you mean by it drawing data from the MV. Forgive me - I may have a multitude of posts, but I'm still new.
The AltMeta rankings that are displayed uses data directly from the official Metaverse. The ranking system is different, but the raw data is from the same source. For a player to be in the AltMeta though, they need to be in an empire that is registered with the AltMeta.
the AltMeta is exactly as active as the regular MV. it's just a parallel scoring system. there's no registtration required, and (AFAIK) unless Kryo blacklists someone from the AltMeta, anyone who submits MV games is eligable for AltMeta ranking by default. i think that was the significance of what KP was telling you.

Guys, I hate to break it to you guys but I think that Stardock isn't gonna bother to fix the MV. They don't care about Galciv 2 anymore.
What exactly isn't working about it? Something may have just slipped past in the cleanup after the server failures over the holiday.
The empire scores/rankings have not updated for almost a couple weeks. I've mentioned it in a bunch of threads, including one only about this issue, but didnt get any response.

It may be worth doing a bit of testing to see if the MV is fully functioning for empires now- the join issue I had has successfully resolved, and the score for the Gerontocracy changed so something updated. Could a few more experienced fellows confirm if things are functioning again?
Yes, it seems to have updated properly for the first time in a while.

Hi. I am a new player. Got the game a couple weeks before Christmas and have been playing it a lot. Absolutely love it. I figured out how to join the MV and did so last week and now I have four games there.
I am clueless as to what an "empire" is though, how I join, why I should join, or what empire I should join, or why I should join that specific empire. I've read the entire thread but like with all things GalCiv there doesn't seem to be a manual or explanation, lol.
However, I just beat the game on the Suicidal difficulty using the Drath (the Drath are over-powered, I'll be proud of myself when I can do it with other races too.) It's time to move on now....and empires are what I have not figured out. Anybody want to recruit a new Drath lieutenant with no empire experience? Although I've been considering using my war-profiteering cash for a trans-species operation.....maybe a Thalan?
An empire is like a group you can join. To join an empire goto an empires page and click join empire, then add one of your characters to an empire. Now if you are looking for an empire to join, then join the Geckodon Alliance as we conquer the Metaverse.

Yes..unfortunatley the Klingon Empire has retreated back into our own Space. Perhaps a time will come when we may roam these parts again.
Untill then we Klingons have sought refuge within the ranks of the mighty Tyranny of Evil in their quest to hold off the ever expanding torrent of fur.
As we see it, the Tyranny of Evil is the only empire standing in the way of the Kzin scourge and we will do our utmost to help them in this quest.
