Title says it all:
Go for it people!
And for those who dont understand what I'm saying, read Hot, Flat, and Crowded by THomas Friedman.
I did not read it, but i just tell you something: The whole CO2-thing in fact isnt that clear the media suggests us to be. That is the impression hearing the opinions of some profs and students involved in this topic in my university. Actually the reduction of CO2 emission has gotten so involved with money that there are is a huige industry behind it, interested in making the people believe, that reduction of CO2 emission is an important topic in controlling global warming. And this is not a conspration theory of some internet freak, like the 911 thing or so, it is just a fact, that among experts the question whether global warming is really affected by atmospheric CO2 in relevant orders is not answered that easily. This to me is vlearly a topic where public opinion is formed in a way that serves a specific lobby.
Just do what mama said, just save energy, ok?
Wether you do it to save the climate, to prevent further wars about oil, our just to save money, not important.
I`ll just do it to save money. ^^ But at least i realize that i am not rescuing the world by it
When our morale drops below 21% from over population, 10% of the population will vanish each week... problem solved.
Nah, I'm holding out for a nice Thalan invasion. I can only hope they use Information Warfare, so I can join the winning side.

I think people would benefit greatly from watching the new BBC series: Catastrophe. It is a documentary series presented by Tony Robinson. He examines the theory that natural disasters have helped shaped evolution. Watch it! Trust me on this...
For other related research and general personal enrichment I highly, highly recommend TED.com
Warning: it is very dangerous! I have lost countless hours on that site.

LMAO- i remember that one.
If you wish to delude yourself in this manner then fine, be my guest. I for one have no children and will be dead before anything *too* dramatic happens so I really couldn't care less what kind of planet we leave for future generations. But if you aren't quite as old as I am or perhaps do have the slightest concern for future generations then global warming *is* something about which you should be concerned.
I admit i am not that into the actual scientific papers that research this topic like i am in other topics. But i know that the atmospheric CO2 concentration actually does follow the global temperatue development. You can scientifically prove more statistical correlation between the sun activity and global temperature than between atmospheric co2 concentration and temperature development. The reasin becomes quite obvious if you know, that the biggest amount of co2 is solved in the ocean and the release of co2 is temperature dependent. If global temperature rises logically the amount of CO2 being released from the water on the earth is the highest. Apparently atmospheric CO2 concentration is influenced by the global temperature and actually that is what you can dicover - the temperature changes and the CO2 concentration rises - but remarkably after the temperature change has occured. So - is the change in atmospheric CO2 concentration really the cause or the result of this phenomenon global warming? We dont know for sure. But i think its unlikely that CO2 is the main factor we should focus on.

I humbly second Mumblefratz's reply 8, and add a shameless plug for Population Connection. Here's hoping the plug is halal for Stardock.
Most of the crackpots are the same "experts" they've been toting as defenders of global warming. Quite a few of the people specifically mentioned in that joke of a report the UN put out have come out calling it bullshit, at least one was demanding a correction on his supposed support of their findings. Just a little bit of digging would prove our impending doom via global warming to be idiocy beyond doubt.
Fortunately for the fruitcakes, no one seems to be interested in looking past this very brief warm period, which makes sense considering to totality of how utterly fucked we are when the next ice age hits within a couple thousand years. The world really will be overpopulated when the average temp drops ten degrees.
Unfortunately for the fruitcakes, 2008 was cooler as well, that makes how many years now of continuous cooling? Eventually the media just wont be able to resist the temptation and they'll start spelling doom and gloom for the next ice age again, ruining the hopes and dreams of a billion morons that bought the hype flavor of the decade. In the meantime, fertilizers and other vital resources required by the floral kingdom will be stripped from the biosphere in a vain attempt to save the planet from insignificant little shits scurrying across the surface.
Give CaptainYar the Nobel Prize!
That is flawed reasoning. If you look at the long term climate, you will realise that 2008 was in the top 10 hottest years on record. A short-term effect like that is meaningless.
Actually if you look closely into the statistical data you can obviously see that global warming is a direct effect of the shrinking number of Pirates. In fact it is the Flying Spagetthi Monster that is behind all this.
The harder it is to falsify a theory, the more trust it gets. Your theory about pirates is easily falsified (besides, it contains invented data, obviously there are more than 17 pirates today).
While I am the first to concede that not everything has been cleared up yet, the mechanism behind global warming is for a large part well understood. To question global warming at this time, just must falsify it.
Can you?
Russel's teapot.
Done.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic_shrinkage
"Computer models predict that the sea ice area will continue to shrink in the future, though there is no consensus on when the Arctic Ocean might become ice-free in summer; a common theory estimates between 2040 and 2100.""A 2007 study by Professor Wieslaw Maslowski at the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California predicted that the Arctic Ocean may be free of ice during summer by as soon as 2013. The study used data sets from 1979 to 2004 and did not include the more recent record low ice minima set in 2005 and 2007.""Wadhams predicted that, in the end, the Arctic ice will just melt away quite suddenly, perhaps not as early as 2013 but much earlier than 2040."Say bye bye to polar bears.
Do not mistake complexity with untestability.
Oh yeah thats right, they did test it, and how was that now again, did they find the Co2 fingerprint?
No, you are not done. Go ahead, give me an explanation for the global warming observations, that, á la Russel's Teapot, we cannot falsify with current technology. We'll then see what measures need to be taken to for that theory to stop global warming.
Let me try to separate two different sources of argument related to global warming. The first and most basic is the assertion that global warming *is* happening and *is* due in a significant part to human activity.
The second aspect of global warming is the *rate* at which this is happening, precisely at what points in time various bad things start happening and even precisely how bad these bad things will actually be.
If some folks want to claim that there is a segment of the population that are global warming alarmists then I cannot deny that claim. If they also want to legitimately argue about how soon various dire consequences will start to occur then I would also have to admit that there is plenty of room for legitimate discussion.
However the folks that deny that global warming is even happening or that if it is happening is not due in a significant part to human activity simply have their head in the sand or more likely have a political agenda that is in some way philosophically opposed to the idea of global warming.
The problem is that most any evidence that anyone can point to is anecdotal, however in my mind there has been such an overwhelming preponderance of "anecdotal evidence" that I believe any reasonable person (i.e. anyone without some contrary political agenda) would accept global warming as an established fact and any application of Russell's Teapot (two l's not one, BTW) applies to the opponents of global warming, *not* to the proponents of global warming.
As yet another piece of anecdotal evidence take a look at this report of the 1st commercial ship to navigate the Northwest passage as recently as two months ago, http://www.cbc.ca/canada/north/story/2008/11/28/nwest-vessel.html.
Again, anyone is free to disagree with me but do try and keep the curse words and personal abuse to a minimum.
It is also not that scientists are inventing something new. The greenhouse effect was discovered in the 19th century, by studying the properties of several gasses. By the end of the 19th century the knowledge got refined enough to be applied to earh's atmosfere.
Long before anyone did talk about global warming, humanity started sending spacecraft to Venus, discovering that a huge tempurature there could be explained by applying the formula's about global warming from the 19th century to the composition of the atmosphere of Venus, there is a huge greenhouse effect going on there.
The only "new thing" is that scientists started to successfully explain the rising temperatures on earth by a rise of greenhous gasses in the atmosphere and started trying to make predictions based on that.
Just look at this list and accept the problem isnt that clear it seems to be:

Don't take this CO2 being the curpit thing too complicated.
It is simple as there is some group of people which are part of
vested interest group and making CO2 make them do their business easier.
It is as simple is that.
