Sins: FreeSpace 1 - A conversion project for Sins of a Solar Empire 1.17
This should be the final release for this FS1 era mod. It contains the update and a couple more fixes. The maps should also work with 1.17 now. Install instructions included.
There is a new mod in the works for the FS2 era and entrenchment. When that is finished we will hopefully revist the FS1 era.

no screenies, but I can tell you that the fighter swarms are HUGE. 60-100 squadrons in just about every fleet.

After actually playing a round or two as the shivans, I can safely say that they definetly need to be nerfed a little bit. I think that the best way to do this would be to make their fighters/bombers somewhat inferior (which is arguably cannon) and increase how much pop-cap each shivan unit costs. I would say 10 or maybe 15 for the Cain and 20 or so for the Lilith.
If you don't want to take the time to do it, just tell me how to do it and I'll do it and test it.
yea, the lilith is almost a match for an orion. that definitely isn't canon. i would lower the abilities of their lillith significantly.

only one question: I'm triyng one 4vs4 mp (GTA-VAS-VAS vs SHI-SHI-SHI-SHI) and,after 2 hours of game,I haven't see THE LUCIFER...only DAEMON class...it's normal????
The level of AI is UNFAIR!
Lucifer-class ships aren't cheap dude. If you don't have a Hades (I'm assuming you are the GTA), then why would the Shivans have a Lucifer? Yes, the AI cheats on unfair, however it doesn't cheat all that much and a smart player could easily tech up faster than an AI, even an unfair one.
and on that, I think that those should be made more maneagable as well. The prices should stay the same (or even increase!!!) but the pop cost should be closer to 100 or 200 than 500. Logic dictates that making a few ships early on is better than one indistructable but slow and expensive ship. only a few players would be stupid enough to criple their ecomomy by buying a lucifer/hades/what-ever-the-hell first thing off, and after they get their fleet up and running, their resources will be to busy elswhere to build such an ambitious undertaking.
@ joker, do you intend to include ships from any of the mods, or is it all gonna be vanilla freespace. I ask because Blue Planet has some kick ass ships and makes the GTVA more into a single faction.

Ryo79, yeah the screenies suck so i will try to get some better ones up. To be honest i havn't got that far into a game against the shivans to see much of anything of thiers. i've really only been playing against the vasudans.
Has anyone even seen the lucifer under the AI? maybe we'll need to change some of the costs for these things. I noticed that the Vasudans didn;t seem to build their super cap ship, but i was hammering them pretty hard so maybe they couldn;t save up, or the ai doesn;t think its worth it. I think they are, especially the lucy.

vp21ct, i THINK we are going to try and keep it as Vanilla FS as possible, atleast to begin with. we will definitely have to add some fan made material (such as the imhotep) and others to fill out the ranks in some places. Some of the fan made stuff is beautiful. We'll have to be creative with the tech tree for sure. and as far as modding goes, the best way to learn is open up the text files, read through them and change things to see what happens in game. alot of the tags in the files are easy to understand what your editing. making a copy of the file before you change it is always a safe idea. supply cost is what you want to change in this instance. its in each ships entity file.
I think im hearing that shivans are a bit too overpowered. i will have to play some games against them. but rest assured things will become more balanced with time.

While I can't speak for the rest of the dev team on this, I personally wouldn't mind seeing some third-party addons to our mod, just so long as the people making them make extra sure to make sure they are the ones yelled at when their content makes Sins FUBAR'd, not us.

I'm not sure if the shivans are overpowered or not, they're the only one I play as though lol. I haven't seen any of the AIs I've played against use their supercap at all. Might have saved them several times since all I do is send out my lucifer against whole fleets then sit back and watch the fireworks. Really awesome job on her, glad you didn't dumb her down.
One thing though, the lucifer doesn't seem to do the damage you would think she's capable of for planet bombing. I had to call in several demons and liliths to make any decent progress destroying a pirate base. The briefing where you hear about how she decimated Vasuda Prime made me think her flux cannons would tear up a planet almost as fast as she dropped the enemies' Orions. Well ok not quite, the Galatea went down in, 5 or 6 shots? Where as Vasuda prime was bombarded for 13 hours straight. Well I'm not quite sure how that would equal out in sins, I just thought she would be a bit more lethal to a planet than she is.
Other than that, awesome job on the mod, really loving it. Thanks for all the hard work you've put into this.

I wish I didn't have to bug you on this, But how do I add the Jump Node Planet type to my Galaxy Forge. I can't very well make maps or even MODIFY the existing ones If it tells me "nope, uh uh, I don't like that planet type."
PLEASE tell me the files I need to change in order to get GF to recognize Jump Nodes.
Will this eventually work with Entrencement?
Right now, our plan is to release Freespace 1 mod compatible(ish) with Entrenchment, but not requiring it at all. The Freespace 2 mod, which will be released some time later, will require Entrenchment for some of it's features.
maybe an add-on for entrenchment would work best, witht the fan made Karnak and the Arcadia being starbases (they should be made to be able to be built arround jump nodes). Shivans wouldn't have much defences, they are primarily offensive (that would help balancing more, that should also be incorporated into a lot of their ships more.
