I can get through the menu's fine, but when I try to start a game, I get a CTD. This happens every time.

You are using a lot of memory when you start the game, Something you have running in the background may be conflicting.
mine does the same its vista and uses lots of memory if i run dxdiag with only this window open i get very similiar figures
try using the fix found in this (https://forums.stardock.com/331070)thread it worked for me and it looks like you have a similiar issue from the debug.err you posted
I am going to take you immensely for this solution, wayne. I followed the suggestion from the link you gave and it works like a champ. Just in time, too, as it was starting to irritate me.
To sum up the link, as it is a little lengthy. Basically, the language key in the registry for the game was blank. For whatever reason, this was causing it to crash. (Look at the third post from the bottom of the first page.)
Don't know if this error is caused by downloading from Impulse or just from a recent update to the game. Stardock should take note of this.
