I have been thinking for a few weeks now "Why doesn't somebody make a game where you actually play as a vampire?" One night, I must have been awake for an hour or two thinking up a game, and I went into a lot of detail. I have a lot of features in mind. Originally, I was thinking of a 2d platform game for the DS. But, better yet, I thought, would be a 3d platform-ish game for the PC, like Assassin's Creed, or the new Prince of Persia. I think this could be a great game, if anyone could make it, but I don't know how to cast the idea to a game developer. I figured here might be as good a place as any to start.
Some of my ideas are as follows:
1. Have equipable items. Since you would be playing as a vampire, there would probably be some sort of sun/light penalty. Well, what if you could go to some shop, and buy a hat to protect you from the sun? Of course, it would be easy to go get a hat to protect you, so there should be some penalty for that, too. Maybe it would slow you down, so you would want to take it off whenever possible. I think the number pad would work well as an inventory controll.
2. Be able to level up your character, like an RPG. As you up levels, you could buy better abilites, for instance, turning into a bat, to get around the map faster, or after you advance to a higher level, you could perhaps turn into mist, to get around quickly, and be able to get through air-vents, etc. Of course, there would be the obvious addition of having different level weapons.
3. And this is one of the least-used things in most PC games, but it should be used more. Have any of you played Battlezone 1 or 2? Not the arcade game. The PC game. You can control units. I was thinking for this game, perhaps if you bite someone, they turn into a vampire, and could then be controlled by you. Tell them to go somewhere, attack this person, etc.
I have some more ideas, but those are the basics.
What do you guys think? More importantly, is there any interest by the Stardock devs?
Please tell me if you think it's a cheesy sounding game. Give any feedback you have, as long as its intelligent. No "That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard" comments, in other words.
Try out Wizard IV: Return of Werdna.
You can become a vampire in elder scrolls IV: Oblivion, and then play as a vampire.
Vampire: The Masquerade was turned into an RPG a couple of years ago. It included the dangers of sunlight, equippable items, the ability to level up and the ability to control other NPCs or players.
There was also a followup, called Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, but I never got around to playing it.
Eh, I'm thinking more of a 3rd person action type game, rather than an RPG. Like I said, kind of like Prince of Persia.
You could try roguelikes. ToME allows you to play as a vampire in the Tolkien setting. Its rather hard however, the game is very realistic within its limits.
Vampire? What is so good about that?
Try Blood Omen. 3rd person action, although more hack and slash than platformer.
Both the Vampire - Blah Blah: Blah games are worth playing by the way, despite their gratuitously nerdy titles. Redemption came out around the same time as Diablo 2, and wiped the floor with it in my opinion (popular opinion obviously differs, given the sales), having a good story and a sympathetic main character. It also had a storyteller feature which anticipated Neverwinter's Dungeon Master, and did it decently. Unfortunately, the multiplayer was hideously unreliable and so never took off.
Bloodlines was from the now defunct sort of indie RPG lengends Troika, who also made Arcanum (last of the great isometric RPGs - in steampunk). It got billed as a sort of RPG/shooter, and I've read that it wasn't much cop as a shooter, but I played it more or less entirely with 3rd person melee and throughly enjoyed it. Again, a very good story and some interesting dialogue.
Vampire the masquerade bloodlines is an action RPG that lets you play as vampire. It's a very good game, as long as you get the unofficial patch. I highly recomend playing it.
Vampires: The masquerade bloodlines is also a game that should not be played if you don't like horror games Well, horror, more like serial killers, limbs hanging around in his house and stuff like that. Bloodlines is really dark, a bit too dark for my taste.
Yeah, to sum it up, that idea is not exactly original. Try Soulreaver, it's exactly what you're looking for.
No thanks.
Edit: On the whole, the ideas aren't really original. You should play more games.
Are you joking? Bloodlines was an amazing game, far better of Vampire: Redemption.
It was not a followup, anyway. Just same White Wolf license for a completely different game.
