Every day I check for the update we were promised was coming in November, and every day I'm disappointed that it still hasn't shown up.
OD+ system tray and start menu functionality for 64-bit has now been broken for months. The length of time to resolve this issue has been very poor, and communication about the status has been worse.
I would appreciate a realistic update of when we can expect this to be fixed.
My apologies for the delay. I have made a few postings here and there about the status of the update. Many portions of the update are under review and as such the update was pushed back. Upper management is giving it a good deal of attention. I don't have any definitive dates at this time but once we do we will be happy to post the news.
You might not have a definite date, but *approximately* how long are we looking at would you say?
It is kind of killing my purchase for me...
It is far worse to offer a time line or estimate and miss it, than to be honest and say were not sure yet.
I trust the SD staff is hard at work trying to get all the items at hand fixed and updated, while occasionally a delay may be annoying, rest assured the delays are for good reason. The last time SD took a bit for a update, we were suprised with really cool features.
Ive known these folks a long while and they have never failed to go beyond expectations.
Hey I don't doubt that they'll deliver on expectations, but I get more comfort knowing that "We might be expecting around mid January" as opposed to "COMING SOON - Whenever the heck we feel like it".
But if they said that, some folks would take that as a carving in stone, then if January came and went with no update, people would be complaining "You promised us January and you didn't deliver!" I'd rather know an update was in the works and that the dedicated crew wasn't going to release it until they felt they had the best product to release.
I might be new here, BUt I rather wait patiently for a smooth operating program then a buggy POC, even if it means longer.. I have the free dock now just to get used to it, though I have 64 bit, my wife has the 32bit vista, I like the loooks of it on the pro. Once it comes out I will be quick to get it.. Worth the wait to get the Best!
'Might be expecting' != 'Promised'. Carefully wording is the key here so people who try and flame Stardock for putting on polish get shut down quickly.
Eh, maybe I'm just trying to justify why I spent $32 on this considering I use almost the same features as the free edition.
Sorry for any troubles in this matter. Situations changed and the matter is being discussed and developed. I am sorry for the trouble. I will post information as I get it but at the moment I do not have anything solid. More info to come....
I agree totally with this. But, you KNOW, no matter how careful you say something, somebody out there will interpret it however it suits them best.
whatchit stripey.
I have to agree with the original poster and I too visit these boards weekly to see if someone is actually letting Stardock know we are still waiting for that update and that our current version is broken and is no more than a paid ObjectDock without anything extra compared to the free edition.
I love this program and I used it daily. I had already said goodbye to my vista taskbar but ever since the systray bug started to pop up I've had to make changes and am using the taskbar again while ObjectDock is stowed away, patiently waiting for it's update (read: fixes).
And as a new user who has never experienced this "they have never failed to go beyond expectations" HG_Eliminator informed us of, I have to admit that I have been holding off on buying anything else through Impulse just because I am afraid the customer support as bad on the other tools by Stardock as it is with this tool. I'm not saying your customer support is bad, but I have to admit that I haven't seen to good side of it... yet.
The free version doesn't support tabbed docks. The free version doesn't support multiple docks. Are you only using it for the systray funtion?
I can not speak for the others, but I put of buying OD+ until it was reporting working under 64bit.
And one mont after I paid my good money, it suddenly stopped. No more systray, no more start button.
I tried to go back to the previous update, but couldn't. I tried everything to get the "Start button" working again, but I couldn't. And I am not a computer Noob that does not know what he is doing.
So I am stuck, I could as well have stayed with the free version of OD. And I am getting angry at SD that they are unwilling to put the previous, working OD+ 1.9 online again. I am a longtime customer of Object Desktop, did not get dissapointed before, because Stardock gradually irones out the problems.
But. I had much hope for the November timeframe that was "promised" but it is December now, and no solution. This is starting to work on my nerves.
I would be happy with the previous working beta. At least that one had the MAJOR functions working, which are in my opinion the startbutton and the systray. They allowed me to switch away from the plain Vista taskbar. I do NOT accept the OD 2.0+ compatibility excuse. PLEASE GIVE ME THE WORKING VERSION BACK, and stop the excuses ...
Jan
I take it you didn't archive before installing the latest version...like they suggest?
Messiah, please stop.
I checked my settings in Impulse, and Archive before update is Checked. But there is no backup available ? It looks I was hit by two glitches in two different softwares, both coming from Stardock. Seen the status of the project, I think they (Stardock) lost their backup as well. Otherwise I don't see a reason why they can not to put that working version online again.
Seen the high number of complaints here, I think it is time they (StarDock) get their act together. Stop accusing the victims. They have my money, and as for now, I am using OD+ as I was using the free OD before.
I was patient until now because they promised a solution in November, but it is December now, and still nothing.
^ Well I wouldn't say promised, but there was something mentioned about it. I too just use a single non tabbed dock to replace my taskbar, thinking I could get access to a systray beta function if I forked out my money. I don't hold it against them that they want to make sure everything is just right though.
Ok. Sorry you have such problems with, imo, a great product. Yes, there are a few bugs that they know about, and they have said they've been trying to fix them. What more do you want. At least they are trying. I don't know of a magic software creation tool that all you have to do is think of it and bickety boppity boom it works perfectly. I mean, you are using windows. Are you all over Microsoft because it doesn't work perfectly?
The thing is, it was working fine before ...
I know there is no such thing as bug free software, not even in the pinky Apple world or Linux.
I am not bashing the product, only that I bought a working product, somehow it got broke after an update and now there is no way to restore it to the previous working version.
P.S. I found a workaround in another thread on this forum to get the Start Button working again.
Voilà, you have a working Start Menu. With only 2 lines of code. Magic ? Bickety boppity boom ?
That only hijacks the current start menu though, I'm sure SD want one that will stay exactly above the dock that you're pushing the button on that isn't tied to the current start menu.
Having said that though, I am currently using my taskbar at two bars height so it appears a little bit above my current dock when I hit my shortcut start button on the dock.
I just installed an update - 1.90.033 - and the best thing about that is that at last the weather docklet is working!
Pity about the idiots at Accuweather, who give me three different locations for Stockholm:
Stockholm, Sweden (Jamtland) of course they can't, or rather won't, spell it right
Stockholm, Sweden (Stockholm)
Stockholm, Sweden (Skane) same problem with the spelling
I have searched several maps of Sweden and cannot find any other place called Stockholm than the capital city. I suppose it's possible that there may be a couple of tiny villages with that name, but I doubt it. In any case, they are clearly so small and insignificant theat they probably don't need their own weather information. What is more likely the case, is that, for Americans, Sweden is itself such a small and insignificant country that any temperature will do - they're only a bunch of backwoods yokels anyway.
As it happens today, the temperature in Stockholm, Sweden (Stockholm) is 2ºC, and in Stockholm, Sweden (Jamtland) is -12ºC, not surprising when you consider that Jämtland is probably about 400 miles from Stockholm in a northerly direction. Skåne is nearly as far away southwards. They very seldom share the same weather, particularly in winter.
I tried sending Accuweather a note about this, but they have one of those irritating sites which invite visitors to "contact" them, wait for the to compose a message, and then tell them, when they try to submit it, that there's an error, with advice to contact Technical Support, which is abck at the page you've just come from.
Oh not all of us are that conceited, but unfortunately I can see how you might get that impression. If it makes you feel any better, my accuweather tends to be a couple of degrees C different than my other source, the other source tending to be better. It seems they just got it as good as they got it.
I do see that their contact page has one of those awful visual character recognition confirmations, maybe you missread it? I certainly couldn't read what was out there when I pulled it up.
Eh I have already explained my discontent with this product a few times, but might as well say it agian in this forum. Making a program compatible with the 64bit version can not possibly be that difficult, considering they had a working platform before, and they have a working 32bit platform. I am not a highly trained programmer and don't know what languages the software is programmed in but seriously how could it be that hard to make it compatible with the 64bit version of windows.
On another note, I deleted impulse the other day, and I guess that deactived my object dock plus, when I entered my email address in teh support thing it only gave me a serial for logon studio... how do I reactivate my object dock.?
Jan, you can have the latest working OD+ (1.9 build 537u) using Stardock Central. yes its been deleted from Stardock website but you will still able to download Stardock central from http://www.download.com/Stardock-Central/3000-2071_4-10719985.html

Awesome, both the start menu and the system tray work now!
I just have to find a way to make the icons not look ugly... I think a 16px second dock will do that only shows when hovering will do.
