It's time to bring the best space MMO ever to the best space RTS ever...
First question: is anyone else already working on something like this? If so what have you done so far? Would you like to collaborate?
Now I know that a game as complex as Eve cannot be fully incorporated into Sins... I just want to take the best elements and come up with a good mix.

I first want to go over the various aspects of Eve and hash out what we can and can't do in Sins.

So? I know there must be at least a few former or current Eve players here.
Get something ingame and then give it a shot.
A problem is Eve has got 5 or 6 size class, SoaSE can only put 4. So you'll have t make choices :
- small drones
- fregates/medium drones/larges drones
- cruisers/fighters
- battleships
- capitals
- supercapitals.
I would drop small/medium/larges drones if I were you.
EVE's fregates and fighters could be SoaSE's fighters and bombers. Cruisers would be small SoaSE's ships, Battleships and Caps would be SoaSE's cruisers, Supercaps would enter SoaSE caps category too but you'll need size changes.
This way, you'll have big fleets of BS, Carriers and Dreadnough that escort a Titan or a Mothership.
Sorry for the long delay... as I started this project, I realized some mod tools would be useful and save loads of time in the end, so I am working on those at the moment (more details on that in a future post). I have been working on these for last couple weeks and will continue to do so for a few more.
I will release the source for that when I feel that the core features are complete.
The main news is that I have not had any luck convincing CCP to allow mesh/texture distribution. So we won't be able to distribute anything, but for those people who already have purchased/played Eve... well let's just say we may provide some info/tools to facilitate such a thing.
ProgressBar, just make your own models then if CCP won't let you use theirs.
That's one area I'm lacking in... for two reasons: 1: I haven't taken the time to follow a tutorial yet, and 2: I don't have an artistic bone in my body.
So I suggest you grab some modelers then. Although modelers/texturers are in real short supply...
I would just keep doing what you have been doing and keep pestering CCP for a response. Just don't waste time sitting around waiting, thats how mods die.
Oh i'm not just sitting around... I am in the process of coding mod tools to make the whole process easier to do and manage.

Light, Medium, Heavy Drones can be spawned by the ship as an ability so they don't have to be built and they will have a set combat time before popping. If spawned however, they'll be just like any other ship and capable of phase jumping. With 1.12, aren't there a variety of fighters (4 types) that'll cover drones?

In 1.12 you can create as many types of strike craft as your want. But their is a hard code that limits the amount any one ship can build to only 2 types.
In Entrenchemnt that hard cap seems to ahve been removed since advent drone host now have 3 strike craft options.
Also not that in entrenchment your cna upgrade stuf fin space thanks to starbases this is how ships should be upgraded from T1 to T2

I'm a greedy guy myself. I don't mind them making money, not if it lets them make Sins 2, hopefully with much fewer hardcodes and a much better engine. It's just that Entrenchment is what Stardock would release as a patch for one of their earlier games, not as a $9.99 DLC. "Micro-expansion" or not, it is still obtainable only through online services, so its a DLC.
Well, I guess since Stardock aren't the ones making Sins of a Solar Empire, but Ironclad is, I can't be mad at Stardock. Although they simply could have used their almighty publisher powers to tell Ironclad to do the damn thing right.
Is the project still alive? I was following it carefully, but no news are coming. Don't stop, it was a very good idea. I don't know anything about moddings so I can't help you. But I'd like to so much to see that mod working one day !
An EVE mod would be sweet, you would get to commant a titan but without the 2 years training
There was I think another older topic somewhere here (by Sovereign797 if I remember correctly) about an EVE mod. Anyway, I am really excited about the idea of modding SoaSE to look like EVE. So I look forward to any progress on this direction. Furthermore, I think I could help (though I am not a modding guru myself - I have done so far some 3dsmax modelling for some simulators - submarines mainly). Right now I am looking into the 3d models of EVE. I understand that they are not free for use, but ,if the situation does not change, I am willing to put any modelling skills I have at work. I do not think one needs too many models to have something playable, as long as other (more scriptic) details are working also. Keep up the good work!
ok, i just read through some of the posts, just cause 90 something posts is alot to catch up on. As an eve Player of 4 years, DO IT!!! CCP is dificult to work with, at this point from what i gather, i cant tell if they are more difficult to work with about in game crap involving their super bugs or wanting to use their skins haha. Looking forward to seeing a finished product at some poin though
