When can we expect a version of ObjectDock for VIsta-64 (specifically tray and start menu support)>?
Thanks dave_1 but the links you provided still directed me to download impulse which I already have. I actually used this link: http://wareseeker.com/download/stardock-central-2.33.402-build-130.rar/264456 to download SDC and then followed Excalpius recs and it works great. I hope this helps somebody.
Great, i got over the 64 bit popup by installing the 190i[b].020 version of ObjeckDock and now all i get when i click my start menu button is this "ObjectDock was unable to find the start menu to show. Can not show start manu at this time, please try again."
Make sure you uninstall the prior versio of OD+ using Impulse as was stated previously then reboot. You shouldn't have any trouble using the start menu button or adding the system tray afterwards. good luck
Any news on a relase date for OD 64bit?
Thx!
Why doesn't Impulse give the link or option to show/download the beta software(s). Am I missing something in Impulse? I thought that SDC allowed that option. It seems like we can only get x64 support, if we dl and install the old-school SDC, then get the OD+ beta.
Come on SD!!!! Can't you support x64? It's not the future anymore, it is here to stay.
Wake up, Stardock, I am still waiting for 64-bit support...
Open Impulse. wait for it to finish validating etc.. Click on the blue orb top left side, select "Show Pre-release versions".
Doesn't work for me.
Not Impulse, SDC.
HG_Eliminator,
Thanks for the 'how to' for beta releases in Impulse. Somehow I (stupidly) missed that one. Now I get 1.91k[a].025 as the latest beta from Impulse, which is of course NEWER than the beta release I found in SDC. Which proves to me that Impulse is the latest port for all things new from SD, not the antiquated SDC.
It still begs the question, "If OD+2 is coming soon, why is it not in the COMING SOON section(s)?!?!?! Is OD+2 a SECRET Coming Soon release? Maybe it's a Win7 release, to be released when Win7 hits RTM, or even Retail, sometime late this year or early 2010. Not much hope for this great, yet badly-in-need-of-an-update software package.
Figurehead, where do you actually see the betas? I've tried enabling them to be seen but I don't see any so I'm thinking I'm looking in the wrong place. Do I have to uninstall objectdock plus first in order to see the betas? Thanks for your help.
OK. I see your problem. I have a fresh install of Vista x64 SP1 Ultimate upstairs. I installed OD+ with Impulse, and it installed 1.09.033 as the latest beta from Impulse. NOTHING really worked in x64 just like everyone has stated. I tried to tell Impulse to allow betas/alphas, and rebooted, but nothing but v 1.90.033 would show up in Impulse. I rebooted, refreshed Impulse, everything I thought possible, to no avail. SD/Impulse are screwing us by not allowing the TRUE latest betas to update via Impulse, which allow x64 features.
So I installed SDC 2.54, told it to show beta versions, and installed OD+ 1.90i[b].020, without uninstalling the previous Inpulse install. I rebooted, and SDC says I have the latest beta v 1.90i[b].020, but if I open impulse, it says that I have the latest beta v 1.90.033. WEIRD.
But now, all the x64 features work.My downstairs computer has OD+ v 1.91k[a].025, but I forgot how I got that one installed. I think I uninstalled OD with Impulse, rebooted, installed 1.90i in SDC, rebooted, then uninstalled SDC, and told Impulse to update, and it showed the 1.91k version.
So basically, if you use Impulse without SDC, SD screws you and does not allow the latest betas 1.90i nor 1.91k to update on Impulse. And thus, x64 features DO NOT WORK. It appears from trying this on four different machines, all Vista x64 Ultimate, that you must use StarDockCentral (SDC) 2.33 (download) which auto updates to v 2.54, to be able to download a beta version of OD+ v 1.9x, which will work on x64.
You'd think SD would have things somewaht straightened out with Impulse. It appears they still have tehir head in their @$$ when it comes to helping their hardcore customers, who buy their sw and then try to help others on the forums. Maybe 2009 will see the update to OD+ v 2, or maybe not. At the going update speed, we may be using Win 7 SP1 by the time an update shows up for OD+.
If I open up OD+ itself, and check the ABOUT OD properties on the "splash" screen that pops up, It goes from 1.90Build535u (v1.90.033 in Impulse) to 1.90Build537u (v1.90i[b].020 in SCD and the same v1.90.033 in Impulse). I didn't check the other computer with 1.91k on it, It's shut down, It's late and I'm going to sleep. I hope this helps.
I am like others who can't see the beta version in Impulse. But how to you get Stardock Central?
I am always directed to Impulse. Why is this so difficult?
Figurehead, thanks for your replies here and in the other thread. Seems like more hassle than it's worth just to get a stupid weather docklet to work... Like you, I don't understand why we can't see the betas, even when enabled, in Impulse. Seems like someone has dropped the ball on this one. Hopefully 2.0 will be released relatively soon though. thanks again for the replies.
Software companies just like to make us miserable don't they? It's just like the stupid so called promised "Trillian Astra" that has been "in development" for years on end with no news of any kind of release in any near future.... the famous words "coming soon" gets old pretty fast. Anyway that's off-topic but same concept...
acook, check abustama's link at the top of the page (reply #26).
I'm going to attempt this on my laptop as soon as I get out of work.... it had been so long that I had forgotten why I wasn't using OD+ as my taskbar, etc. then I was like "oh right, my tray icons wouldn't work with stupid Vista 64bit version." I'm only now researching about what can be done about it. What annoys me the most is that OD+ doesn't come with a standard digital clock, just the stupid analog clock... when I look at the clock, I want to see digital numbers, not guessing what time it is on a tiny blank face. I'm guessing that once I get the tray stuff working I'm going to have to research on getting a digital clock in order. Is that really so difficult?
Anyways, if someone could be kind to point me to a working and SIMPLE digital clock that will work in x64bit would be appreciated. I know it's not quite on topic although I'm sure users would find the same desires as I when replacign the taskbar completely. Wish me luck on gettting the tray stuff working on my 64bit Vista Ultimate later tonight!
I just figured out why the weather docklet works on one of my Vista64 machines and not the other. I had found on some other web site (sorry, can't remember where...) people talking about this same exact thing and someone posted the file "stardockweather.ocx" that made it work without issues. I replaced that file, saving the original, and it worked for me. So I just copied it over to may other macine that is now having this issue and problem seems to be solved! So I would suggest trying to do a search on this file for those having similar issues with the weather docklet and see if it works for you.
Well, the systray works like a charm and I found a digital clock docket that, after a few tweaks, works good. It's somewhat setup similar to the Windows 7...
anyways, the beta works well with the x64 platform, i think OD should just release it as full just for the x64 option and save us a couple headaches
anyone have an issue of live previews being blank?
Might sound like a stupid question, but where is ObjectDock in SDC??
I can't find where to download the beta from...
Cheers
I'm a clown, I found it
where? because i sure cant find it.
It's under the Misc folder
i found that, but the beta version do not show up for me and yes i have them enabled to show.
what version is showing?
I was quite suprised to add the start menu dock and then be told that it doesn't support my 64 bit vista. I really thought that Stardock was on top of the modern world.
I'm not going to hod my breath waiting on them to make it work nor do the work around, nor will they get my $19.99 for Objectdock plus or a renewal fee for the other programs I own until they start supporting 64bit operating systems properly. No, it's not a threat, it's simply my purchasing decissions.
