When can we expect a version of ObjectDock for VIsta-64 (specifically tray and start menu support)>?
No Kidding, what's the problem? I will never go back to 32bit and you guys need to recognize that 64bit is going strong right now, thanks to many computers coming packed with 64 bit Vista that supports over 3.25gigs of RAM.
I know, these people need to get working on this, it sucks not being able to check my battery or connect to wireless networks without the system tray support. I can't imagine that it would take that much work to make it 64 bit compatible
agreed
It certainly would be nice if we could get x64 support for Vista. I know it's being worked on, but I bought this thinking I could update the beta going off information that was posted not realising that the beta had in fact been pulled down and not put back up considering that it's now December.
At least the start menu fix works, but for now I need the unload button and a quick launch icon on the task bar so I can have quick access to the system tray.
I haven't had any luck with the system tray docklet, or the start menu with my OD+ 1.9 in Vista 64. Everything else seems to work well, but of course it's not a complete replacement of the task bar without them.
I nicked this from somewhere else on the forums, but at least you can get the startmenu "working" in a sense by naming a file "start.vbs" and placing the following in it:
Totally. I use this on 2 computers at work and at home. At work I run the 32 bit version of Vista with the object dock with the start menu and never use the windows task bar (it's hidden).
When I go home to my 64 bit Vista I feel crippled having to use the Windows Task bar again. The hint above with the VBS script works great! Finally at least a viable option untill we get an update of Oject Dock for 64.
^ That is unless you want to run the beta of OD+ from SDC, which its' start menu and system tray still works for me nicely, aside from the fact that in the system tray I can't right click all icons, it'll treat it as left click.
If you uninstall OD+, then re-install it from Impulse, you should be able to have both the start menu and the sys tray in Vista x64. I am running Vista Ultimate x64 no problem.
Mirsguy, unfortunately that did not work for me. The version from Impulse is v1.90.033, even after checking the box for beta versions. Anytime I try to enable the System Tray I get the following popup box...
I uninstalled via Impulse, then reinstalled via Impulse, and when I try to select the system tray option in the dock settings, it tells me "System tray functionality is not currently available for 64-bit versions of Windows".
So, I'm running Vista Ultimate 64, what did I do wrong?
Do I need to uninstall from SDC or something?
Thanks for your help.
I don't know how long ago you tried that, but it certainly doesn't work now. As I've mentioned, SDC is the only way to grab a working 'x64 features' copy.
Okay, I was able to get it to work thanks to a combination of what people have said above.
1) Uninstall OD+ 190.033 from within Impulse
2) Reboot
3) Using SDC, install 190i[b].020
4) Run OD+ from the Start menu etc (wouldn't run from SDC directly for me).
5) Be happy.
I manually made sure "Enable MCP notification area support" and "Enable MCP SmartStartup" are CHECKED in the SDC/Tools/Settings/General tab, but I don't know if that is required. I did this in SDC before rebooting above, just fyi.
I now have Start Button and System Tray on Zooming docks support under Vista 64 Ultimate.
I hope this helps and again, thank you to Wally3k, et al, for their helpful comments.
I'm very glad to hear that you have it working Excalpius!
Please note that when the update is made through Impulse at a later date you will need to uninstall that version completely before installing Object Dock through Impulse. Otherwise it is likely that you will have conflicts between the two. Just a heads up!
Ah, thanks for the heads up, Oh Bass Master.
Yeah, part of the problem appears to be that SDC thinks you are updated just fine when running 190.033 via Impulse, so it won't allow an update/install. So the full uninstall from Impulse (and reboot) is required before re-installing via SDC.
Fortunately, the settings are still there, so it was entirely painless. The taskbar is not HISTORY on my setup once more.
So, I installed the beta version from Stardock Central, created a bar that displayed the system tray icons, uninstalled the beta, rebooted, installed the latest version from Impulse, and was pleasently surprised to see that the tray icons were still displayed, and now, even though it still complains about not supporting 64bit whenever I try to create a new bar that displays system tray icons, it'll still do it.
So, apparently, the ability is still inside of ObjectDock with v1.90.033. They've just inserted a popup to detour people.
So we need SDC to get the x64 features working...
But where the hell is it? It seems all links point to Impulse.
I'm a little frustrated that if the latest beta is available why can't we get it through Impulse???
Edit: Found it and everything works!
Congrats!
Where do you find the beta version on Stardock???? I've got Vista 64 Premium and would love to use the menu and system tray. thanks.
i don't have time for this....i just want it to work..am i asking for too much?? they should really think about a disclaimer such as "Do not expect this program to work if you have Vista 64" because it dosn't. With out sys tray and start menu OD is just a novelty
It took me all of three minutes to do what I describe in my post, Shotti.
If you have the time to post your unhappiness, and we've taken the time to try and help you, then maybe you should take the time to make the change needed to be happy?
I agree it needs to be fixed at the company level, but we've all found a workaround and it works. Good luck to you!
TigerL0rd or anybody else how do you get the beta version 190i[b].020?? SDC seems to always direct me to impulse as well and can't get around this. I'm using WaLLy3K's temporary fix for now. thanks for somebody helping me out.
Abustama, you download Stardock Central @ [ED: see link below in next post!]
the stardock SDC link https://www.stardock.com/products/sdcentral/ will re-direct you to impulse download area. if you face this problem just go to http://www.download.com/Stardock-Central/3000-2071_4-10719985.html to download the latest SDC that still downloadable.
Merry Christmas everyone... too bad Stardock fail to give us a new working version or good information on how to make ObjectDock run smoothly on Vista-64 as our Christmas present...
Thanks for the link fix!
If you follow my instructions above, you can have ObjectDock Plus working just fine under Vista 64, with all features.
Happy Holidays!
