Sorry if this is a rant…hopefully not too much of one! Maybe somebody can help…hope so!
I have been deciding to buy Gal Civ 2 for a while now, after playing the demo, I decided to go ahead and buy it, never played a turn based game before, so looking forward to it. I noticed that the Ultimate edition was due out in a few days, so I waited and bought that – yay
I installed the game, no problems and then decided to grab the new 2.0 update as it adds lots to the game etc….the community seems very excited about it.
I want the best experience I can with my nice new shiny ultimate edition. I logged onto impulse and tried to update the game, I have Sins of Solar Empire and have updated it easily. The game was not listed under My Games, so figured I needed to register it first under impulse. So I typed my serial key in and selected game category, then clicked to choose game…..the list was blank?
After hours of re-installing impulse, the game, restarting computer etc etc…I have finally found out that the Ultimate edition can not be patched! It is not listed under supported games under the impulse game list.
I know people rant about impulse, but I don’t mind it and support from the community and the people who make Gal Civ and Sins is fantastic. Until now!
So that’s it then…nothing I can do, will have to stick with an out of date, unsupported version of a game and will have to spend money on Gal Civ 2 normal edition and buy all the expansions separately.
To be honest I doubt I will rush out and do this after they took my money for an unsupported game…it SHOULD be listed on the box! I wont play with an out to date version….anyhow 2.0 adds a lot!
I will find something else to take up my spare time. This may be a one of case….but I feel seriously let down!!!!!
um......i think its gonna be supported in the next week, with any luck
GC2EU and GC2UL should get 2.0 shortly after the holiday. There have been some tricky issues holding it up (due to the localization, I believe), but AFAIK they've been sorted so at this point it's just a matter of the people getting back to the office to put it up.

Ok, well if that’s the case, then I shall wait....have to learn the game anyway....expect it be bit if a learning curve! I just wanted the full experience first!
I would have hoped that an update for this version would have been made available first...as most people update their game first before using it...well I do anyway lol...and 2.0 is a big update

So it seems I'm not the only one with the Ultimate Edition problem. I'll wait and see.
The issue still isn't resolved
We're still waiting on new localized files from Kalpyso after the latest round of issues, AFAIK. We have, however put up the update for English GC2EU.
I wish someone would sort this out!! I received the following e-mail from Stardock support on 3rd December - it is not particularly helpful as you can see, given that Kalypso do not even have the Ultimate Edition listed on their website. Providing a game without support or access to patches without stating this on the box is tantamount to theft.
This is my first experience of a Stardock game and it hasn't been a good one so far....

From what we understand in customer support, Kalypso was supposed to handle all updates for these games. For whatever reason, it turns out we are going to provide updates. Not sure what happened where or who dropped the ball.
This seems to happen when we agree to let other companies publish our games in other countries, and it creates more work for our developers and customer support. Maybe someday we'll publish the games we develop in other countries ourselves, as we do in the US.
In the meantime, all we can do is direct those affected to Kalypso and ask for your patience while it all gets straightened out.
Oh, so Stardock is going to be supporting that Kalypso published edition. That's very interesting. Will that patch come out via Impulse?
Is that Edition Kalypso-published edition overseas the exact same as having all 3 games in the USA (Galac Civ 2 + 2 expansion)?
Since most of your games involve activation required, can Americans buy that Edition (since Gogamer is selling that) and not get regionally locked out b/c they bought the version outside of their region (which Valve did on some who bought the overseas edition of The Orange Box)?

Just to clarify, does this apply to Endless Universe too?
Does this mean no registration, no Multiverse, no version 2+ of GC2 for us hapless EU/UE customers?
We had been repeatedly assured the registration and localisation issues were being worked on, hopefully I have misunderstood your post MeliBee because as it appears to read it would seem that wasn't the case.
GC2EU 2.0 made it up onto Impulse before the weekend, and a such may now be registered as well. You should be able to use it with the Metaverse either way, though.

Ahh so I'm not going mad!? How many times do I have to type in the serial number to be told it isn't a stardock code before I realise I'm ot mistyping it Yes I got the Kalypso GC2 Ultimate Edition as well. I did have the Paradox GC2 vanilla version and never got the addons then noticed the Ultimate Edition a couple of weeks ago on play.com so decided to but the all in one pack to make life easier. My initial idea was that I'd sell my GC2 vanilla version as I'd have the new version but had forgotten that the serial is registered to my account so can't do that now.
Still at least I can play the game. I just can't update. Could be worse I'm sure it will work out in the end but I'm a sucker for optimism....

GoGamer.com has been selling the Ultimate Edition for about $26 now and then, lately. Sometimes I think I might want to try it, but now I'm afraid it will have patching issues.
Still working on it. Probably best to not give an ETA, given the tendency of new problems to pop up.

Guess what I am having exactly the same problem... Much sadness. I also got the exact same response from there customer service people. I am patiently waiting and not playing the game until I can patch it all up. I can wait as I have played a lot of the vanilla Gal Civ 2 without the expansions. I just hope this is all sorted soon. At least I now have a thread to bookmark and keep an eye on, and someone to blame, Kalypso. Stardock have indeed never done anything wrong for me in the past. I do love these games!
I've got the same problem.
Hopefully this will get sorted soon; GalCiv2 is a SERIOUSLY entertaining game. I'm amazed I didn't buy the games sooner! Between these and SOASE, I definately have a favourable attitude towards Stardock!
Would really like to see this problem resolved, but if you guys say you're on it, that's certainly good enough for me.
Almost a month on after the first posting and no resolutions to this. I was hurling abuses towards Vista about this until I found this forum. Nothing on the kalypso website and nothing on impulse. I managed to play only once and it was beautiful. But that was 8 hours ago and 2 reinstalls with 2 register cleanups.
Any indications when? Through where?

Not being able to play is definetely another problem. The problem at hand is that Ultimate Edition is not yet supported by stardock due to details in the deal which contracts stardock & kalypso. Which in turns means that 2.0 update is not yet available to Ultimate Edition Customers.
But you SHOULD be able to play albeit without 2.x version !!!!
May I suggest that you start your own thread, describe your problem, post a debug.err and maybe we'll be able to help you...

I thought that although there were issues between Kalypso and Stardock that Stardock would be sorting it out.

I can't imagine much will get done over Christmas and New Year though.
