A while ago this was mentioned about Elemental, this was way before it was officaly anouced however.
'You can zoom out and see a cloth map of the world - and these are randomly generated worlds that look as if someone painstakingly created it with a sophisticated map editor, which the game does have built-in, too - and then zoom all the way in to a leaf on an individual tree in a forest in one smooth loop, where the ground and trees look as good as you’d expect in a high-end first-person shooter. '
Now the curent scren shots don't show any where near this level of detail, is this a cut feature, and if so how close can you zoom now, and what will it look like when zoomed in very close? I am loving the current art style, so I was wondering what the LoD close up is now.
It becomes even worse, looking back on the rather excellent art of previous Warcraft games, that started it's downfall into everything that makes Warcraft Warcraft today. From the "everyone is actually pretty good chaps, it's just that these chaps are a bit good:er than these chaps, but we don't speak about it - and those chaps over there are baseless, irrational evil", to the MOAR LENS FLAER when it comes to the latest "plot twist" sensationalist, mind-numbingly retarded grind, to the bland art that tries to "redeem" itself by being as widly exaggregated as possible.
Elemental, while being highly stylized and colorful, doesn't have to be wildly exxagregated, because it actually looks good, in a timeless manner; artful (no matter it's age, or compared to the latest lens flare).
WoW? I said I wanted to be shown something you wouldn't see in reality, but fantasy disco wasn't quite what I had in mind. I suppose the trouble with WoW was that they gave everyone shiny glowy things by level 50, and then they decided to add 10 more levels, and then another 10, and then another. And for each of those 10 levels the items had to be more 'epic', which of course means it has to glow harder. If they can squeeze in another expansion or two before WoW2 then they'll probably have to make things strobe.
LOL!!! Its true. regular D&D has gotten to that point it seems as well.
This screenshot makes me like the art direction a whole heck of a lot more.
I really like the look and art direction.
But i also have a thing for Anime and Manga and love the cel shadeing.
And Manga is not equal to Cartoons dammit...
They've put up some new artwork here:

Any you know, after all that arguing, I think that perhaps everyone is going to be happy with it.
