Hi all sorry if this has already been asked (be nice I'm new ).
What modding facilities will we have for E:WOM? Are we only limited to the "uploadable content" to inhabit the Worlds? Or like Civ4 will we be able to create almost entirely new games? Or somewhere in between?
Thanks.
Well I'm not %100 sure, but I think Stardock plans to make the game as moddable as possile. Besides that the game will have alot of user created connent that can be semlessly or selectivly shared/downloaded (a la Spore). I think this is what you mean by "uploadable content", but I figured I would clarify anyway.--but yes Stardock has stated the game will have extensive mod support.
Well, have you played GalCiv2? I mean, if you compare that and Civ4, calling "Or like Civ4 will we be able to create almost entirely new games?" - my point is that Civilization 4 is probably as far from intuative as you can get, when it comes to modding. I tried my hand at some light modding, and it just failed miserably. While in GalCiv2, not only is a lot of the nation/civilization creation functionality built-in, but there's actual, functional, mod tools (although I feel that the map editor leaves something to be desired).
I'm not a developer, and I'm short on official word at the moment, but the general idea seems to be that while the game may not be geared for a total conversion to be easy, there's going to be the potential for serious levels of customization, wheter it's unique units, civilizations, technologies or spells(?).
They're going to have a dedicated metaverse where people can easily upload and download mods of varius kinds, similar to Spore (although they had the idea before the release of Spore).
So when it comes to moddability, I wouldn't worry.Although, of course, if there's no stock ridable non-magical bears as common as horses, it's all for naught!
Thanks for the answer guys.
Yes, by "uploadable content" I meant the Spore similar content. Great to hear they're providing a LOT better ability to streamline what to DL over the lack of anything Spore gave (don't get me started on Spore grrr).
Luckmann, I haven't played GalCiv2 (prefer historical/fantasy settings over future) and the depth/scale of modding doesn't phase me. I'm "Dale" of Desert War/Age of Discovery/Combat Mod/Road to War fame.
That's why I'm hoping we can have extensive modding abilities like Civ4.
Hi Dale! I hope you'll be modding for E:WOM. I thought it was you, even before I read your name, your avatar immediately caught my eye, since I've been a CivFanatic for a long time. I've played AoD and recently AoD for Colonization and enjoyed them both. I sure you'll do a great job with modding this game.
Hehehe, yeah it's a fairly unique avatar that's for sure.
