This will be really interesting to see- the Dragon interaction. I suppose they could act like Pirates from Sins (attacking whomever gives them the most gold), or like a minor race in GalCiv. As if there wasn't enough strategic play already, now we get to worry about getting fried from dragons!
That'd be interesting to pit dragons against other dragons. Or see them all team up (form some kind of a clan) to take out the most powerful channeler, or whomever they *think* wronged them. Wow- cool strategy options.
Any other cool ideas on how Dragons could play a role in Elemental?
I don't really have much to add, except repeat some of the things I think is a must:
In Elemental, dragons are a very very big deal. For most players, they're more like forces of nature. You won't be easily able to get them on your side because they're just too powerful.
1 Elder dragon could wipe out 1000 soldiers easily.
Until you've built up your charisma/diplomacy skills, best to stay the heck away from a dragon. There are other creatures in the world (lots of different types) that you can make use of either in terms of domestication or easier to recruit.
Ya if you get to ride the dragons, thats going to be extremely awesome.
Good point, Solam. It reminds me of the statement in The Chronicles of Narina regarding Aslan "Well, he's not a TAME lion, you know."
Dragon's probably aren't too tame and might have their own agendas to pursue. I could see being a pawn in a dragon rivalry, kind of like how the Emperor in Star Wars used Count Doku to flesh out all the available armies that could oppose his and crushed them by turning on them.
That is exactly what I'm hoping for myself. I can see two great armies meeting on the field-of-battle each with a dragon, then when they clash the dragons start to attack them both together from behind!
Somehow I missed Brad's post here. Sorry, Brad, and thanks for the further explanation. It sounds like some of our ideas may be a bit far-reaching, although here's a thought- how about Dragon power? For instance, creating a sliding scale that allows you to determine the powerfulness of the dragons themselves? Or an easy way to mod this, I suppose.
I also found something else interesting in your response- are you suggesting we can negotiate with along the veins we've proposed above? So, all/some unique magic units will each have to be approached diplomatically (rather than just instantly joining up for paying for them)? If so, I'd say I'm open to that as long as the negotiations aren't extremely time consuming and it scales appropriately (for instance, trolls are harder to get than goblins, and unicorns are easier to recruit than halflings, etc.).
I still would like to know if get to deck the dragon out in armour and and such, Even if it's only for aesthetic purposes
One karma on "not yet finalized"
This was a regular (and often heated) debate in my old RPG circles. I'm really glad to see that the Elemental plan is going this way. I confess that I've read many Pern novels, and even had dragon-riding D&D characters, but "more like forces of nature" is really how I prefer to see them.
Any chance the dragon art will include some Asian-style body types? And might the eldest ones be really, really large--like curl around the walls of a small city large?
Oh I see, Luckmann, stealing my profile pic idea, well...
this shall not be tolerated, channeler! War against you and your people. You will rue the day you ever challenged Ragnarok and mine's might. We shall barrel down upon your cities, crush your people and their wills, and turn your land into the ash from which you raised it! For I am the Rising Legend, born of the Earth, Sea and Air, to do the will of the gods... Upon my dragon Ragnarok, none shall oppose me, lest they wish to die... So breathe each breath wisely channeler Luckmann, for by the time you hear your men sound their trumpets at the gate... It will be far, far too late...
just messing dude! You shall be welcome into my courts as often as you please, for fellow dragon channelers must work together for the prospering of our world im already getting into this far too much when is this game coming out again? February? oh thats not too bad... Wait of 2010?! NOO!! lol
and again Stowe I definitely agree with you, but either way I think this game is gonna rock! But like I said before, Im looking forward to finding out if dragon and channeler will be able to ride into battle as one! Perhaps we must appeal to the frog for more information Long Live Frogboy!

Thank you so much! To tell you the truth I wouldn't know where to begin in doing this, however much I wish I did May your days be long and prosperous O worthy channeler! The people of my nation will sing songs in your name!
After 30 odd years of negotiations....
"Very well manling, you words sway me. I shall consider your offer of alliance. But first you must do for me a single task."
"What do you require ancient one?"
"Find me a girlfriend"
"That's right, Norgoth, Terror of the East gets lonely...*depressed sigh*"
Norgoth's troubles aside, what really catches my attention is this; "There are other creatures in the world (lots of different types) that you can make use of either in terms of domestication or easier to recruit."
Domestication, eh? I certainly that applies to more than just horses. I'd love to outfit some Razorbacks with armor and let them loose on an enemy infantry column.
Why oh why do I want to see an omniscient frog oracle in the game as a rare easter egg?
Pegasus knights!
I must say I'd love the ability to customize a dragon, but with something that powerful, it should come with drawbacks. For example, your newly recruited fire dragon may not be fond of how much you've embraced ice magic, so its loyalty may decrease. I'd like to see a loyalty system for dragons and any other insanely powerful beasts (the rest can just give their loyalty and be done with it, those with less power are likely to want to exert influence) so that you can't just do what they want and use their power without keeping them happy.
