Since there is all the buzz about SoaSE: Entrenchment, I thought it would be a good idea to start thinking about what could add onto Entrenchment. Here you can speak your mind on what you think the other two expansions might be.
For example; I think there are going to be 3D's in the Expansions, which are Defence,(Entrenchment) Diplomacy,(Unnamed 2nd Expansion) and Destruction or Development(Uber far away 3rd Expansion).
The Fraisers have already *hinted* at Diplomacy Expansions in the 2nd Expansion, and since Entrenchment features on defence, you could opt for mass military upgrades inteh 3rd one, or if you think that the military is already strong enough, Development, which could include new Planetary Upgrades, New Planetary Bonuses, New trade and Refinery Bonuses/Abilities, and, even the fabled colonizable Moons might be added! But,remember this is all just my theory, and I'd love to hear yours.
OR if there will be 3 Expansions at all... 2 Micro-Expansions and the Final HUGE one, with a campaign and everything.

I agree. In my personal ideal world, there would be a campaign, a campaign editor and the vasari nemesis in the third expansion...
this vasari nemesis has pwned the vasari so bad they ran for a long time and gave up an empire to save themselves...

Well, it could just be that the "nemesis" is a swarm or mass amount of enemies, not necessarily a technologically advanced beyond all imagination or uber powerful lazer beams that kill everything race. So if only a handfull of them come through to this galaxy, it might be an even playground.
Then again, it might just be the carebears.
It could be anything, heck, it could be this one, Uber big, fast, and powerful ship, like 100 cap. ships together, that obliterates anything and came from a totally differnt galaxy by phase-jumping the the galactic core...
Blair and Craig/ anyone else who created SoaSE, any hints/clues as to the origin or what it could really be?

This may come as a big shock to people...but it's very possible that they themselves don't know and merely thought of that as a background story without ever identifying what it was, exactly, that the Vasari are running from. Perhaps they were hoping that creative fans of the game would post some interesting ideas that they could use...
Well, that definetlly gives me hope for the future...
One of the things I'd like to see in the third mini-expansion is a type of vessel that could board trade and refinery ships for a much larger reward than you recieve for simply destroying them. It'd be cool if you could acctually capture the boarded ship, but simply scuttling it after you're finished plundering it would be ok too.
This would be another type of ship that could benefit from the infailible jump drive tech used by scouts, or perhaps it could just be an ability added to the existing scout ships.

I want to see the planets themselves expanded. More upgrades, planetary defences like huge cannons and maybe even boarding actions or just the ability to deploy marines to a planet, where they just have to destroy the population and not the planet health to take control of the colony.

Stealth ship!
-Enemy doesn't see it phase jumping. (Even if they have monitoring researched!)
-Ship has some cloaking device, can't be physically seen by enemy in their grav-well (or on sidebar)
-Could be a new capital ship perhaps, with a stealth/cloak ability that lasts awhile.
I realize Vasari scout has an ability like this (Phase Cloaking) but it's kind of not exciting and they still know it's there!
A spy capital ship like I mentioned would add more thrills in my opinion! Be like, oh damn where'd that Space Sub come from! To counter there could be a new logistics or military building (uber sensor building?) that can detect them and/or a sensor cruiser.
EDIT (Missed a sentence ) TEC one could look like a modern, but huge,submarine (their carrier looks like a modern one so hey?) and have more weapons woo.
Stealth ships huh?(My God, what's next, Advent/Vasari Hybirds?...JUST KIDDING ) That actully could be like how the Mines in Entrenchment can only be detected by scouts... They could be Cap. ships, but that might off-set balance, same with hevy Cruisers, hmmm...

Im not sure if this forum is for open suggestion, but has anyone suggested/discussed having the planets revolve around their suns? Adds a timing aspect to the game as the jump distances open and close as the planets move
That is a cool idea HewCP. So cool that we tried it out a loonnng time ago in the early SINS days. We used to play a board game that had revolving planets and we thought it would provide an interesting element in video game form. Unfortunately the reality was very different. The game became very disorientating - transfering the successful player's skillset from strategic decision making to visual aptitude.
Now what would be cool would be to have some planets with Moons that you could build special projects on...including system defense installations. And the moons would orbit the planet at the edge of the gravwell. No disorientation, and it could add strategic elements to fights in the system if the player builds a military installation. Something to think about for future expansions.

In fact here is what I would love to see (as stated in couple of other threads)
1st expansion - Entrenchment - leave it as is since it will introduce much needed defensive depth into games strat...
2nd expansion - Call it whatever - focussing on number of different shorter, smaller and competitive game modes together with proper clan support and various leaderboards... This one will reanimate online scene as well as provide some extra fun for SP and skirmish guys since new game modes would naturally be playable off line too...
3rd expansion - Call it whatever - full blown SP campaign (perhaps together with an editor)
This strat would ensure one juicy LONG LIVE THE SINS and pave the way for number of future sequals...
Yeah, I totally agree. Especialy in combination with a campiagn editor. Not just Galaxy Forge, but a way to add text pop ups for story development (there would be the need for a very basic pop up system like: ship X destroyed or planet Y conquered results in the pop up of text Z, and the choise of two or more possible options in the text pop up leads to the start of different maps... Do I make any sense...?) , fixed starting points for the player and the possibility to choose the starting structures and ships... Perhaps even the possibility to take your surviving cap ships (or perhaps only one) from map to map...
Argh... That's sad... Revolving planets whith distance dependent disruption of phase lanes would have added a whole new set of strategies to the game... You would have to time an attack in such a way, that you are not suddenly stranded in enemy territory without backup, because the phase lane from which the cavalery was about to show up through just broke down...
Well, you guys definitaly have a better overview about what makes sense and what not... Great that it was in the original planning though.
With Entrenchment adding the star bases, and the 2nd expansion going for diplomacy and adding depth. I'd like the 3rd expansion to add a super battleship. (Like the star wars super star destroyer thing) Something that dwarves even the capital ships but is hugely expensive to build but has amazing firepower, armor and shields, not to mention a big fighter capacity and super weapons. Perhaps they could add a cap, only 1 can be built. They shouldn't add it to the capital build list until the research is done for it. I do believe it should have it's own research slot and need maybe 10 Military research centers to research it or more depending on balance.
Tier 2 Capital ships could be a pretty cool addition.
Whats with a new status of your Cap ship, like a legendary status?. If a Cap ship reached level 10 the can become a Legendary ship with an message to all players, by fight some good fights. This status will lift the cap ship up to a higher class like 50% mehr damag and 50% less damage taken. So cap ships in legendary mode become a new componete for fights. in the end game the masses of heavy frigs like the kodiac and co. blow away any level 10 cap ship too fast. so caps went to only support ships and i think thats not the rule of caps. They are the crown of each space empire fleet. Like the Enterprise or Georg Washington for the USA (US Navy), the ships from 2. WW britain the Hood and Co. oder the germans one Bismarck.
A wish forthe entrenchment, make more and more x in research please. Or an other research system, like the numbers of labs become a time factor to research faster a technology and lost labs will push your actual research back for a ammount of the power of that lab witch is destroyed.
So small empires become a chance to become a economy or military factor if they fokus there research power. At the moment your research stand still with no change to get better units when your position grants you only a few planets
