Since there is all the buzz about SoaSE: Entrenchment, I thought it would be a good idea to start thinking about what could add onto Entrenchment. Here you can speak your mind on what you think the other two expansions might be.
For example; I think there are going to be 3D's in the Expansions, which are Defence,(Entrenchment) Diplomacy,(Unnamed 2nd Expansion) and Destruction or Development(Uber far away 3rd Expansion).
The Fraisers have already *hinted* at Diplomacy Expansions in the 2nd Expansion, and since Entrenchment features on defence, you could opt for mass military upgrades inteh 3rd one, or if you think that the military is already strong enough, Development, which could include new Planetary Upgrades, New Planetary Bonuses, New trade and Refinery Bonuses/Abilities, and, even the fabled colonizable Moons might be added! But,remember this is all just my theory, and I'd love to hear yours.
OR if there will be 3 Expansions at all... 2 Micro-Expansions and the Final HUGE one, with a campaign and everything.

Hmmmmm, no replies yet.
I'm still not sold on the moons idea. I'm not going to pay extra money just to get what amounts to another planet type or some extra tactical/logistics slots (which is what most of the proposals have made them out to be).
On the other hand, the espionage element would add quite a bit to this game as there are plenty of empire stats out there that are ripe for covert manipulation. If people want alternative non-military forms of attack and advancement, throwing some agents into the mix would be a grand gesture.
True, there is not much extra within the exact concept of a Moon, however, as you said the effect and(to me) satisfaction of reaching teh closest thing to your home planet would add an twist to the game. It also might balance out *some* early game econimical issues if your having trouble getting started.
OH, and befre I forget, I think that Moons should be either:
A: Already colonized and developed to some extent on your Home planet and
B: become colonizable for free with every planet that has one...
I'm still hoping that we'll get an online multiplayer tutorial that will encourage people to try playing it online.
Hmmm... That is a good idea, and it probably would boost Online Players, but isn't there a tutorial mode already in the game?(I can't check, my comp won't let my load the dsk)
I'm not sure how moons would work. Maybe like bigger resource asteroids with some population? Maybe they could support a couple of extractors as well.
Moons? Hmmm... Kind of, but not quite.
In MY mind, moons would be sort of an extension to the planet itself, Bonus population, health Logistics slots etc.
Artifacts could be hidden on moons, and I don't see why they can't suport bionus extractors too.
P.S. Sorry for the late reply, my comp. was on teh fritz(it's a Gateway )
My idea of a moon was an orbiting moon with its own gravity well connected shortly with a phase lane. Based on its orbit it could interrupt a phase jump causing fleets to land in the moon instead of the planet and based on the speed of orbit could even be timed to get your fleet to another section of the gravity well fast
Interesting, I guess it depends on how you play the game would decide how one could want Moons to come into play, I'm a hardcore economist( always HAVE to have 50+ creds per second) so yeah, that could also work. Hmmm, you could have a moon have it's own exclusive phase lane, while being in the Grav. well of it's planet.
P.S. how did this become a discussion over moons?
I really wouldnt care for an offensive expansion pack. It rather defeats the entire idea of entrenchment.
It could, or it could evenly balance it out. It was just a random Idea of mine, same with the Development idea, which i think is 10 times more likely.
One idea I saw floated earlier that I liked was to have some powerful structures that could only be built on moons. Basically, they would give some planets a new type of structure slot that wasn't available on every planet. It would be a way of adding new, powerful planetary structures, but restricting how many each civilization could have.
I think I read that too, but I thought he wuz talking about only being able to build SuperWeapon(Novalith Cannon, Kostura Cannon, Deliverance Engine) structures on moons so there's not as much spam from enemy SuperWeapons.
why not moons around gas giants
3rd expansion we find out who is chasing the visari!
i hope anyway
That would be cool if there were multiple moons around a gas giant and each one could be colonized individually.
The next expansion I would love to see would include Hereos.
The would have levels like the Cap ships and give you bonuses to systems or fleets depending on their type.
If anyone remembers Master of Orion 2, something similar would be Great!
yes this i would love!
Personaly I would love to see an mod/addon to planets. Since they are the life of your empire. Just my opinion but they seem weak for a 'planet'.
Just a few things I think are odd.
1: Population. I know this has to do with game balance but a homeworld planet with only a at the most ive seen 1000 ppl on it?!? Come on, its a big world. This is purely for eye candy.
2: Defensive Abitlites. Once again its a huge place in theory. Im sure they could make room for a few orbital defenses. Would love to see a planet fight back. Most games Ive played, granted not many. I have use a single Cap ship to massacar every planet. I know there are seige frigates but they are honestly overshadowed by Cap ships in the role of bombardment. But that is another point for another day. So Im suggesting in this long winded point to give planets guns. BIG ION CANNONS! Disables weaspons for X time. That way you need more than one bombarment frigate or Cap ship to take a planet down.
This is a great idea. There could be a few "Moon facilities" for each race with different applications, Military, Economic, Research, Superweapon, etc...
It would also be cool if Moons circle the Planets at the edge of the Planet's gravwell. I think that would add a very interesting level to the game, especially if you could put a Military base on it.
as said before, moons are just desolate spots..... you can use em for everything, dump your radioactive waste (not build a natural park on it after that tough)
also it has it;s own gravity, tough less then a planet it should be enough to work with heavy items there
since a moon is the perfect spot for dangerous stuff you dont want to be conducting on habitable planets, or build expensive space stations for them (or a somewhat unstable asteroid)
so that opens alot of possibilities (need i remind were tlaking of a MOON, something cirlcing a planet?? with a bit of thought about it we could just as well have ourself an orbiting moon with guns aded to it, this makes timing planetary assaults even more complicated and fun......)
(MOONS !!! WE WANT MOONS )
Though = Tho
Tough = Tuff
Public Service Message from the "We Want Moons" Coalition
Personally, I'd really like it if the third, as yet undisclosed microexpansion, is a campaign. I'm not sure how other folks would fel about that, but I'm a big fan of story in games, and I woul REALLY love to find out as much as possible about the Sins of a Solar Empire Universe.
Wishful thinking aside, I'd love to see what Ironclad has up their sleeve for the second diplomacy expansion as well as the third microexpansion. Entrenchment has me psyched since I tend to play RTS games with a more defensive mindset when possible. I'm sure the content of the other two expansions will be just as exciting.
