I will be posting updates on the progress of my little 3rd party mod that aims to add the Borg as a full faction

I am only goin to give the borg 3 capital ships, due to the fact they are really really expensive, you wont see that many, so for this reason i am only goin to have 3 capital ships
Cruisers
Coffin (Is now a cruiser no longer a frigate)
Advanced Sphere
Diamond
Frigates
Scout Sphere (This ship is now the borgs scout and light frigate)
Long Range Torpedo ship (need to fix the shaders only)
Planet Assimilation Ship (Colony Ship, will colonise unowned planets and assimilate populated ones)
Maybe one other ship
All borg ships will if you so wish transmit this message
“we are the Borg lower your shields and surrender your ships we will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own, your culture will adapt to service us RESISTANCE IS FUTILE”
as its set to an ability i may also make it disable somestuff or make it so it has an negative effect on enemy ships (note long cool down to prevent spamming of this message )
Borg Ship / Station Assimilation Ability -- All capital ships will have this ability only (Long cooldown)
Borg Planatary Assimilation -- All capital ships will have this ability and the planet assimilation ship (Long cooldown)
Borg Space Stations ( i will post pictures as i get them done)
Borg Outpost (pic below )(Fires a borg "laser" beam only)
Borg Unimatrix (this will be added when entrenchment comes out) you will need a pretty big fleet to take this out tho i may limit it to 1 per game (somehow)
Borg Shipyards (noidea about these yet)(ideas welcome)
Transwarp Conduit (acts like vasari phasegate) (updated) finished (post below expains this more and a possible insane version of the vasari RA perhaps ^^)
Transwarp Hub (a smaller version of this massive station, the borg SW, allows the borg to open a transwarp aperture anywhere on the map regardless if the planet / grav well has a transwarp conduit) Scary thought
Torpedo Turret ?? ( i may just give the borg outpost both torpedos and lasers) you views on this?

But please don’t get your hopes up just yet as I have quite a bit to do yet and I need to balance the Borg too so.... it will be done when its done or at the very earliest some time after SoA 0.3 is out so I could balance it to that

Borg Probe (uses borg coffin model) ( can assimilate other frigates / cruisers 65% chance of assimilation faliure, untill research has been done reducing the chance of failure to 55%)
Planet Assimilator (can assimilate and populate planets assimilation has a 50% chance of failure on populated worlds, untill research has been done to improve it)
Borg Coffin (light Cruiser) ( can assimilate other frigates / cruisers 50% chance of assimilation faliure, untill research has been done reducing the chance of failure to 40%)
Advanced Sphere (medium Cruiser) ( can assimilate other frigates / cruisers 45% chance of assimilation faliure, untill research has been done reducing the chance of failure to 35%)
Diamond (Heavy Cruiser) ( can assimilate other frigates / cruisers 40% chance of assimilation faliure, untill research has been done reducing the chance of failure to 30%)
Capital Ships
Cube ( can assimilate other frigates / cruisers / Stations and Planets 20% chance of assimilation faliure, untill research has been done reducing the chance of failure to 10% on ships / stations, Planatary assimilation has a 25% chance of failure untill research has been done reducing it all the way to 0%)

After speaking with Danman the borg look like they will now appear in 7 Deadly Sins at some point in the future
I decided to move the coffin to a cruiser and move the sphere to the position of a scout and light frigate
I also finished the Transwarp conduit ^^ seen above
ok now for the crazy idea tell me what you think
should i give the borg some sort of RA, it kinda makes sense to me since borg space is huge BUT it would be massivly expensive for a start and unlike the vasari RA take forever to research so rushing this tech would mean you lose even if you had a cube defending your HW
the basic research i plan is
lvl3 Transwarp Conduit (TW) Research (for the structure) --> lvl 4 (TW speed improvements) 2levels before moving to lv5 ---> lvl 5 sub space TW conduit structures further decreasing time in Transwarp (so faster travel times) 2levels
lv 7 Transwarp Hub (borg SW allowing for temporary instant access to the targetted planet long cool down )
other research required before this is accessible perhaps some sort of structural integrity field 3 levels perhaps before access to the Transwarp hub
lvl 8 Borg RA level one brings scout spheres only, level 2 brings scout spheres and long range class ships only, level 3 brings Scout spheres long range ships and coffins, Level 4 brings Scout spheres, Spheres Coffins only, Level 5 brings Spheres, coffins and Diamonds, Level 6 Brings CUBES only !!(these cubes would be weaker than capital ship cubes ofc and dont level) (very long cool down before next reinforcements arrives, perhaps triple the time of vasaris RA, and you dont get anything if you do not have enough fleet supply)
this would be extremely expensive to research for a start and take a very long time, basically if the borg get this your fked i.e. borg end game weapon

Mind you, the Borg aren't super-powerful like killing 20 galaxy class starships offhand; they just adapt so fast it's insane.
Conceptually, adaptation and all that turns out something like a very high shield mitigation threshold; like 95%+ max. The more damage you deal, the better they can adapt. But you have to deal the damage before they can adapt; borg do not anticipate. Their hull strength is actually quite mediocre; remember, before they had adapted, the Enterprise managed to gouge some pretty impressive holes in a borg cube with a couple of phaser blasts (!). It was only subsequently that the borg adapted and was rendered fairly immune. Which was later somewhat mitigated by the technique of phaser modulation.
I'm assuming that the hull regen for borg is very high?
So, essentially, extremely high mitigation, medium hull and high hp regen: kill them fast and with a single, powerful blow, or you slug it out like Wolf 359 (and probably lose).
One advantage to using a high mitigation limit rather than a high hp value would be that it would actually be possible to pull some tricks like, say, a tech that is "phaser frequency modulation" or something, which would increase the effectiveness of phasers by occasionally punching through the mitigation completely, in the same vein as phase missiles. It would give some late-game punch to fight ever more powerful borg, without actually boosting the power of other races much relative to each other.
Actually, shield negate is global. So if the Federation gets a research that gives phaser beams a 10% chance to ignore shields, all their phasers get a 10% chance to ignore shields against all races. So you end up with a quite powerful Federation as all of its phasers have a chance to pass through shields.
well yea but remeber i said a level 7 cube just managed to kill them all (taking in to the fact the AI retreats when it has a few ships left to try and save them) AND i had been assimilating a few of those ships , so they were mine ^^
but since its a level 7 cube not level 1 it has gained experiance (adapted in a way i suppose)
i have not given the borg any type of sheilds yet, nor have i altered the hull regen atm so its default sins level atm
while i like your idea and would be nice to implement i dont think its practical
what i could do is create an additional ability for all borg ships that could increase the sheild mitigation levels for a short period of time (but this takes up abiltiy slots soooo) this level could also be upgradable so as you research more the ability becomes better

just a question though, in which order did you work to accomplish this stand-alone race.
Did you start by changing the playerborg.entity (if it's independant..not just a modified version of TE,etc.) or manually change each file name then the playerborg.entity?
Question is asked because I'm also planning on bringing in a new race (almost ready to start testing it with basic layout) but I need to "extract" my race from it's Phase host files which I'm using!
Any hints tips to help a fellow modder out

You can just have phaser bypass in lieu of actual phaser damage upgrades then?
all i did was create a 2nd player tech entity and rename it playerborg.entity then went thru all the info in the new file and altered it and removed all reference to the TEC
but as it was said above if i did that it would affect all races not just the borg so i wont be altering any of the other races stuff i.e. phasers as that could mean a larger file when i release it and i dont think major stress would like that , so I will balence the borg to SoA 0.3 when it gets released, but i am not altering any of his work just adding to it

I can't wait to try out this mod b/c it looks so good. BTW, did u consider making the capital ships a limit of ONE each and having multiple ones (ie Locuits'(sp is off I know) cube from TNG and another piloted by the Borg queen?). Also, if you COULD make a weapon for the Federation similar to the i-mod from Elite Force (weapon that changes fequence every nanosecond or something) that does like 20-30x the normal damage (ie beam weapon does 10 dmg while this does 200-300) and have it as a upgrade that requires a lot of time and research material. I also think that in order to use the transwarp hubs, the Borg MUST be able to traverse wormholes as well- something that requires 5 research structures for other races. I know you are developing the Borg race and are focusing on that but maybe it may be wise to give the other races some kinda advantage (ie person rescued or "freed" from Borg Collective gives said race a dmg increase vs those ships with a limit off 1 person being freed or rescued b/c then there'd be no impact from 2 people knowing Borg weak spots b/c they'd be civ wide). IF you could somehow mod in adaptable shields for the cubes and make them VERY weak (1,000 tops), that would make it more like in the TV series'

well i am allowing people to build upto 16 capital ships but i might have to increase fleet supply to do this (not sure tho) only 3 capital ships tho as i said Borg Queens diamond, and a standard version as cruiser, Cube and tactical cube
i have begun on the borg tech tree as well, wormhole travel for the borg is lvl 3 and a requirement before you can get transwarp gates then transwarp hubs

No, in the U.S. we use month/day/year. Otherwise we would call September 11, 2001 (the other date that will live in infamy) 11/9, and we call it 9/11 (9th month, 11th day, unless September and November suddenly switched places...).

I have a way to make only one unicomplex....
what you have to do is change it on the game constants or one of those entities so the Borg get it atomatically on their first planet (Just like a shipyard) but you dont put it on the build list for structures so there is no way to build it.
I think that this almost makes sence having the unicomplex on the Borg homeworld only.
