Hello everybody. Tomorrow is the Big day for some of us who have been waiting for a long time for this game.
I was wondering if anybody has some expectations or ideas or thoughts of what will be in this game.
I am imagining a huge map with lots of dungeons protected with creatures which we might be able to enslave to do battle for us later on. Maybe a huge dragon's lair where your hero will have to face the ultimate creature to get that super powerfukl staff to kill your friend over multiplayer.
Just speculating for the fun of it.
For those who keep asking "where is death magic", consider this.
When MoM came out, you might have noticed that there was another, much bigger game out at the time. One that used a suspiciously similar set of 5 "elements", that suspiciously used the same 5 colors and basic concepts. That game, of course, is Magic: the Gathering.
Indeed, when I first saw MoM, I thought it was some kind of poor-rippoff of M:tG. I mean, "Master of Magic", "Magic: the Gathering"? The names do have a connection.
Basically, I'd say it's a good thing that StarDock did not take the obvious path and draw the attention of our "friends" at Wizards of the Coast. It's better for all involved.
@Alfonse - That is an interesting point. Sadly enough I never played MtG but many of my firends did. On a side note, I have been haunted by thoughts of LA coming after SD for the game handle being very close to "ewok" since I read the name the first time. I was so hoping they would come up with somthing for "dad".
Life and Death Magic are drawn from the same source in Elemental, but how they are used, and what spells are available to you are determined by your sovereign nature. If you are "Good" you get Life magic spells, if you are "evil" you get death magic spells.
Pre-ordered today. That should get me into the beta when it starts.
edit: Even the consumer report coupon was working... sweet.
There's nothing really new with grouping life and death magic into one field. Hell BG2 classified all those types of spells as necromancy. Didn't matter if you were raising skeletons or bringing a party member back to life.
Was it supposed to be new? I think the only reason it's getting mention is because people aren't figuring out that death magic is the evil version of life magic.
Heh, I'm not criticizing or claiming it's unoriginal. So many commented about a lack of death magic though, I thought I'd add that bit that life/death has been treated as one thing many times before.
