Hello everybody. Tomorrow is the Big day for some of us who have been waiting for a long time for this game.
I was wondering if anybody has some expectations or ideas or thoughts of what will be in this game.
I am imagining a huge map with lots of dungeons protected with creatures which we might be able to enslave to do battle for us later on. Maybe a huge dragon's lair where your hero will have to face the ultimate creature to get that super powerfukl staff to kill your friend over multiplayer.
Just speculating for the fun of it.
I wasn't enthused until I saw the combat gameplay example screenshot. Depending on how the development evolves, I think I could be very interested in Elemental.
This is looking an awful lot like another HOMM or Age of Wonders so far. The HOMM series had about 6 schools of magic, and they also got bonuses within their own type of landscape. The biggest things looking to set this apart are the MP and the modding. Warlords 2 opened it up to modding, and that didn't work out very well. I would have loved to see a fantasy version of Civ, but it's not to be on this one.
One issue I have with the title, it might be too long. Would people shorten it to EWOM?
Definitely interested in this- it is likely that this can be Stardock's breakout game.
I saw the thing on gamespy, and this new game looks like a piece of shit to me.
Oh well, theres always Demigod...if Stardock doesnt delay it again...
HoMM music and imagery is wonderful. The gameplay itself is terrible however.
I say that from the perspective of a man who dislikes chess intensely. It is far too clinical and undynamic. It is most definitely a statistical numbers game, not a true strategy game. You could play HoMM V completely bereft of graphics if you wished, simply pitting one set formula verus the enemy mathematical formula, arriving at an 'inevitable number'. In that regard it is simplistic, dull, unexciting, and pointless. Algebraic calculation in fancy clothes.
The only reason why I purchase the games is to acquire the music and appreciate the inspired visuals.
Hopefully Elemental War Of Magic is most definitely NOT going to follow the HoMM model in any mechanical way.
"While searching the game preview, you come across a screenshot that will provide +1 to Avatar."
Anyway... I've never played HoMM or MoM, but this game looks really good. Tactical battles are nice, multiplayer is something I'm really missing in GalCiv, and I like the sound of this 'streaming mods to all the players' thing. I wonder how hard it will be to make new units and such? Interesting art style, too; kind of a pseudo-cell shading thing going on in that combat view. Not sure if I like it yet, but I certainly don't hate it.
Not sure why an obviously western fantasy-themed game has what looks like a kitsune in it, though. Not that I'm complaining or anything.
I would recommend trying the demos of Age Of Wonders 2 and or Age Of Wonders Shadow Magic (the successor to AoW 2). Shadow Magic had some design flaws imo, but overall these two games served to set the modern bar by which all such fantasy conquer games (turn-based) are judged. Superior effort, for sure. With the clean crisp 3D visuals, I think in that department Elemental War Of Magic is off to a good start.
I wonder for how long this one has been in development?
So, where it is?
I got the impression that some in Stardock liked Japanese culture- hence the kitsunes.
AoW series was ok, but suffered from horrid AI and some balance issues.

here is another article, they expand on the multiplayer aspect of the game.
They have IRC? Which server/channel?
Yeah I was also wondering about that. WHAT ABOUT DEATH MAGIC?!
I guess it is life magic as a negative channeler
There's death magic.
Yeah, IIRC Life and Death magic are just the two sides of 'Creation' magic. You have to explicitly play an evil race to have access to it, though.
Really looking forward to this game.
I'm positive that the multiplayer discussed refers to the stardock published game, Demigod. It seems, this article was written from an interview that covered both games and the writer f'ed up big time.
Looks like they removed the multiplayed discussion, demigod references, and the second page (all about demigod MP).
New site is here.
Damn. A lot threads on Elemental or EWoM. I think they should all be merged into Frogboy's official thread.

So I read:
> The channeler will be an incredibly powerful unit within the game.
Looks like it IS influenced by Dominions then.
> positive or negative channeler
Sounds like Galciv's good/evil thingy got back in. I guess it'll be used for diplomacy too.
I hope they open map generation the way Civ IV did...
No doubt. But at 3:00am after 18 hours work I'm going a little slow...
