A man was tired of having his McCain signs stolen, so he hooked up an electric fence power source to the sign, and a camera. A punk 9 year old kid, obviously brainwashed by his parents and probably an ACORN voter, got a “shock” when he trespassed into the yard.
Actually, a nine-year-old could legitimately fall for Obama's bullcrap. This would make it self-motivated. Anyways, moving on.
I'm a believer in defend yourself laws. If somebody you don't know is entering your property, and stealing your things, then you have a right to take nonlethal methods to prevent it. If he's entering your actual local area or committing animal or sexual abuse, you have theright to take any methods to prevent it.
The wire looked pretty visible to me, and I believe he went into it himself. It could be early-onset masochism or stupidity.
A homeowner has the right to use his property as he sees fit, so long as it doesn't violate local laws and ordinances. An electric pet fence doesn't violate the law as stated in the article.
I can't imagine being indignant with a neighbor over what they do on their own property because it interfered with my kid's vandalism.
Okay, all of you who think this is funny or are making excuses, I have a proposition for you.....
I will give $1,000.00 to anyone who can locate this guy's house, go into his front yard, and then grab and hold onto those electrified signs for five minutes.
Then I want you to tell the rest of us just how funny it is.
Any takers?
Vigilantism Tova, it's not allowed for a reason. That's what this man did, he took the law into his own hands. If things were designed to work that way, we wouldn't need police. Those exceptions you claim are when someone is breaking into your home or assaulting you (usually and adult individual). And in those cases, it's self defense. This wasn't that, and this kid, this nine year old child, mind you, was doing neither.
Let me rephrase that, "It's frowned upon." Rule of law essentially, if we all started taking the law into our own hands, then there goes our entire law system and civil order.
More voltage needed to really teach a valuable lesson. Too bad the property pwner has to to the parenting.
Don't be ignorant. Putting up a fence is hardly taking the law into his own hands. In fact, lots of people use fences to protect their property. Crazy radical ain't it?
Really? Is that what he did? Funny. Looked like he just put an electric dog fence on his own property to me.
Oh puh-lease. We have exactly that around our garden all summer long to keep deer out. Our kids have brushed up against it several times and are far from traumatized about it.
The fences are meant to be painful, and the kid didn't hold it for five minutes so what is the point of anyone else doing it?
Here's a novel idea. The parents should teach their children not to trespass onto other people's property.
So you're going to offer excuses? Listen, here's a hell of an idea. Why didn't he go and find out who it was that was doing it, and then go and approach the parents (or find them if nothing else). Then, tell them about what was going on. He could've then told them that if it happened again he'd call the police. Simple, and easy. Intead, he went and "put a fence on his own land," which is a clever way of saying he "didn't" take the law into his own hands.
Whatever Tova, go ahead and deny it, but what happened happened. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
No, what I am "offering" is reality. I don't know what alternate universe you live in, but most people have lives and jobs..and the man stated in the article HE DIDN'T KNOW WHO WAS DOING IT. He wasn't home when this occurred and in fact wasn't home the third time it happened after he took the fence down. Thieves and vandals are funny like that, waiting until they know the owner is gone before perpetrating the crime.
How dare the owner not quit his job to find out who is stealing his stuff. THE GALL!
I want to be clear, I am NOT advocating shocking kids as punishment. I AM advocating the man's right to put a fence up on his own property to protect his property.
While I don't agree that shocking a child and posting it on youtube is "hilarity", I do have to agree that the homeowner was within his rights. It's pretty ridiculous that anyone would argue that a homeowner has no right to non-lethal methods of protecting his home and property. Especially considering he POSTED SIGNS ALERTING PEOPLE TO THE FACT THAT IT WAS ELECTRIFIED. The REAL criminals in this scenario are the dumbass parents.
I don't see many here (despite the title) taking humor in it. Personally I think it is sad a person has to take measures. What I see is an indifference to vandalism. The crime supporters here don't even mention the father of the shocked boy accosting the fence owners 9 year-old daughter. That must be OK, right? If more people protected their property the less likely crimes of this nature would happen (and the criminal supporters would have less to cry about). How many of you would complain if a man snatch a womans purse and was maced? It's non-lethal, but the effects last longer than this pet fence. Make no mistake the crimes are similar except the former includes trespassing.
Your wager is ridiculous, the purpose of the fence is to warn your pet (or anyone that can;t read in this case) away. It doesn't require holding onto it for 5 minutes. It give a tingling sensation I would equate to tapping a hard bristle hair brush lightly in your hand. The homeowner touched the fence himself to test it. But if someone wanted to spend five minutes looking foolish, I'm sure it would be the fastest lose of $1000 dollars outside of a casino. I just wish the guy would have left it up to get the woman that came by later to tear down his signs (caught on camera). Do you think they will arrest her for trespassing and vandalism? Not hardly, too many (like some here) are willing to look the other way. Wonder if you'll feel the same when it comes your way, or to a loved one. Let just hope nobody is seriously hurt then, as most know criminals have little regard for your safety when caught red-handed.
Sorry, most of the people here are not Obama supporters.
They have brains.
Uh, she is stating facts. You are excusing vandalism.
Well the small sum of $1K isn't enough to travel to the home of a person to touch a sign that is no longer electrified. However, if you are willing to go through with your offer, I have all of the supplies required (even a video camera for proof) and will gladly take your money.
You game?
I think the problem is that we're arguing it different ways. Lets just agree to disagree.
And you're making assumptions, again. I've implied that I didn't agree with what the child did, I whole heartedly feel that it was stupid of him. If you don't get that, then here: What the kid did was stupid, and I don't advocate it.
So stop looking like an ass, ass.
Lucas, you behave like a petulant child. Why don't you go find some other children to play with? You're embarrassing yourself here.
Careful TW, he struggles comprehending little words he might think that this big word is an insult?
Did you realy just say that?
Oh right, and when others here act like that it's all fine and dandy, right? Please. Where's the same attitude to others when they do that?
I just find it funny that I've never said I agreed with what the kid did, and made the point of saying such, yet Doc here assumes that I do. So...lets look at that again.
I said I didnt agree with what the kid did. I made the statement.Doc says i'm excusing vandalism. So, therefore Doc didn't read things completely because I stated that i didnt agree with it. How can someone who doesn't agree with it, and called it stupid - be excusing it.Freaking simple really. Why is it that not one person is getting this. It's not rocket science.
Do you ever question if it's just you?
Why is it always that no one around you 'gets it'?
I have JJ, boy have I.
I've asked multiple people that I know and people I barely know. They've all said what I said made sense, but that perhaps I'm not getting it across right. I feel like I'm saying things very simply, but in the end I'm just banging my head against a wall.
Dude you totally missed the point of that question. When everyone around you is telling you that you stink, it's pretty damn likely that you stink even if you can't smell it. When no one 'gets it', maybe it isn't everyone else who has the issue.
Boy this is going to be off topic.
You never seem to get it Lucas. You keep reinventing yourself here at JU to be understood but every iteration of you leaves us with more questions. I hope you find the strength someday to stop. The regular folks at JU will never be able to look at a current comment from you without applying your past. I am predispositioned to think you are a fool. I don't know why I am even bothering to interact with you at all. Maybe it's because I am sick of seeing your new inventions.
JJ, I do get the point of the question.
Yeah, I should've put a bit more in my reply so it would imply such. All I was trying to say is that I do wonder if it's me, and that's why I check, thats why I have checked. I'm not saying it's not me, but asking why. Why am I not, when things point various directions.
What questions? I'm more than willing to answer any and all questions. Ask me one and I'll answer honestly.
I made no assumptions, you are just being Lucas (again), and throwing your little temper tantrum when you dont get yoru way. Calling names so quickly? I can see you are still the immature little whelp as always. Just remember the 3 fingers, and get your head out of you.
Will wonders never cease! Lucas is good for something. he got me to agree with TW.
