A long journey begins! This year, we will start a project we have long waited for,
a Fan-Expansion Pack for Galactic Civilizations II : Twilight of the Arnor. It will be a community Mod, so the whole community can participate on the development. The first stone, a mod containing a lot of content we developed over the last years will be released parallel to the Mod Metaverse and will be the first mod which will be available in the Mod Metaverse. On this mod, we will build up the Expansion pack!
Let me lead you inside the backgroundstory of the Fan-EP:
Sometimes, a small group of the United Planets Member of the milkyway galaxy decided to escape the never ending war by sending out colonyships to a nearby galaxy. Driven by hope to find a new place to live without Conflicts, they settled down and started discovering the Andromeda Galaxy. Noone expected falling directly into a Hornet's Nest...the Andromeda Galaxy was dominated by 2 Races, struggling each other for thousands of years. The old rivals recognized the new galactic players and try to convince them for there sides. Strong propaganda tear the former UP members apart and each aligned with a side, joining the intergalactic war, again. The steadfast neutrality of the Terrans, is your destiny, to bring peace to this galaxy... well from this on, it is left to the community, how it continues, we plan to start one of many Seasons, like in TV, handling of stories and incidents of your imagination! Here's a little log of what extra-content will come to you: Ultra galaxymap predefined 4x4 +8 immense maps predefined, each representing a sector, 4 for each quadrant + 8 borderland New weapon effects and systems, each race gets different weapon/defense advantages. New models New spacetextures New mainmenu New userinterface New shiptemplates for each race 2 brand new races, the Asa & Vanir New modules: energy reactors
New models for shield, armor, point defense, sensors, life support GalCiv II : New Frontiers will be the never ending(? you decide ) future of Galactic Civilizations II !

i don't really get why races have to be replaced; i can create a custom race with a custom tech tree whenever i like without overriding anyone, so how come imod can't? surely the only difference is that their races will have new images and new components for ships?
It's because there aren't enough 'slots' for 2 new races. Even one race would remove the slot for the custom race.
yeah, we decided to switch 2 of the main races. If you decide to make custom races, you can't make them official, showing them on the race selection screen and create a storyline with them, also, these races will have completely new Techtrees, shipstyles, planetary improvement graphics etc.
Next week I will go into User Interface modding, you probably remember the X3 holosphere one, I will overwork it to have it more fitting in New Frontiers.
Which races are biting the dust?

So many good mods these days seem to die.
Well, as the site "crypt keeper" I can tell you that pretty much everything is dead right now............. I plan to change that, however..................... I imagine a completed mod should liven things up a little...
hey, sry to tell you that we won't continue work on mods for GC2, the community has lost its interest and we didn't get enough feedback so we concentrate on our Messenger project and other stuff
but we keep our downloadbase, where you can find a demo of new frontier, the ultimate FX mod.
I feel sorry and my heart bleeds, but we need to face something on that we can build up our future.

Is there any chance of releasing MrKorx's half-finished GC2IDE2 to the rest of us? It doesn't seem like he's looking after the beta anymore...
Gosh, that is sad. I finally got my hands on a copy of this awesome game and it seems the community has moved on for the most part. Call me a late bloomer.
Have patience..... I'm still steadily chugging away on a Metroid total-conversion........
Speaking of which, does anybody know about the fate of a stand-alone starbase module editor that MrKorx wrote about a year and a half ago? It appears to have entirely vanished from the net..... (and this is NOT the same program as GCIIIDEII)
I just got the game myself and intend to learn some modding for it.
So what if it's mostly abandoned (apparently)?
Simply stand on the corpses of the dead and mark your own mark!
It's not a game's fault that it's mod community dies off or wanes. That's life!
However, it is the responsibility of those that enjoy the game to get the word out and keep interest alive.
Look at Freespace2... I've only been modding it for the last 6 tears or so (I did over a thousand personal ship conversions for it), but the community has been going strong for the last ELEVEN YEARS!

Also the comunity helped me out with knowledge so I eventually figured out how to make animated torps right from Trek games. Something no on else had done at the time publicly (possible exception of the starfox team, but they use a physical model).

As for me, I am picking apart FoxThree's Stargate Mod to see how this thing ticks and taking my stab at a Robotech mod (starting small RDF replaces Terrans), then expanding on that to a full mod.
I used to have a gigantic folder chock full of modding resources: models, sounds, images, textures, ect. They were gathered from past games I owned or ones I got mroe recently. A crash nearly a year ago devastated the various long-term FS2 projects I had going, and I went into a modding-hiatus for a long time...
I may take long breaks like in the past (true) but my hiatus is over... I'm back! Time to learn how to make this happen for Galciv II...
So let the invasion begin, time to break your toys and take your s...stuff!
Yeah, I know you're not supposed to put mecha in a fighter/shooter sim.

Hey when will this expansion be available for download?
Head to Head play, network play, multi-player. I know you won't multi-play but thats the way to go with Galcivs!
Just because theres no feed back does not mean you lack a fan base for the mod to continue!
Usually it means the people are off-line, dont know where to got to find new updates on progress, or are just watching and enjoying the content being made.
