I beleive there was a murder some years ago over the in-game death in Star Wars Galaxies, when a Sith Lord player was killed by his Apprentice, and had all his items taken from him. Could be wrong.
There was a case where one guy killed another (in the real world) because of a Bonebiter from world of warcraft.
I don't know if its funnier in or out of context.
Also depends on how drunk you are.
