Every day I visit tons of website, forums, and social networks for all types of topics, most of which are technology based in some sort of form. This election cycle has really brought out the best of the liberal “group think” mentality regarding Obama. On just about every social network Obama is praised as “the one” and any hint of disagreement with his policies or ideals is immediately responded with accusations of racism, or just plain insults. Anybody who wants to claim that liberals are tolerant to others, please give me a shout because I can quickly debunk that. Even here on our network of sites, there have been insults tossed at the slightest hint of either supporting McCain, or being against Obama. I’m certainly not saying conservatives don’t dish out their fair share, but the mentality of liberals has once again bordered on the insane and hateful.
It’s tough being a proud conservative, as I will say what I think regardless of what the group and mob mentality is. The real shame is so many people, especially bloggers in the tech area, are afraid to do the same. I have received so many private notes and comments in support of standing up for conservatism, it’s almost crazy. The best comparison I can make is how conservative actors in Hollywood are often ridiculed or turned down for roles because of their conservative beliefs, and the same mentality is going on right now in the blogosphere. Conservative bloggers, some of which can be considered A-list are having to remain silent about their thoughts on Obama and McCain, simply because they are afraid of retribution from their employers or just not being able to pickup work from other sites. It’s a shame, and it’s more telling about liberals than it is anything.
I am a conservative, I don’t like Obama, and I will never let anyone intimidate me because of that.
And here's very fine examples of personal attacks. Especially since all I was indicating was my unwillingness to discuss something with Dr. Guy.
This:
was in response to you telling two different people this:
and was nothing but a suggestion, offered up in the same spirit & tone as your posts, not a personal attack.
For the mods: End of discussion (at least for me).
Daiwa when you stated
It was a clear uncalled for flame directed my way especially when it was easy to see I had not directed that comment to you at that time. You will not likely find me addressing you or Dr Guy on any posts again regarding any matter of any type or kind. Your conduct towards me has been excessive.
Immigration has ALWAYS poured into this country. Bigots in the good old days use to use the same words to describe the Italians, Irish, etc. etc. All immigration does is stir the pot and change the mixture. It always adds up to 1 America.
Ridiculous hyperbole.
When was the last time we had a real riot? I remember it...Rodney King. And that was NOTHING compared to Watts.
Again, more fearmongering with no basis in fact whatsoever.
And yet you spent three nigh neverending posts bashing a man who has never done you nor the country any wrong. Even his short tenure at Fanny Mae in 2000 was marked by him raising the flag of "UH-OH, something's wrong here!" and so they gave him the boot.
If Obama appoints Kissinger, I'll agree with you. Otherwise, Rahm's a non issue for me at this stage. Everyone deserves the change to screw up mightily and get the boot, haha.
Okay, we have ONE verbal gaffe for Obama. Microsoft had to release Windows in 64 bit just to keep track of Bush's gaffes...
from the same article...
"“A downturn in the number and percentage of Republican voters going to the polls seemed to be the primary explanation for the lower than predicted turnout,” the report said. Compared to 2004, Republican turnout declined by 1.3 percentage points to 28.7 percent, while Democratic turnout increased by 2.6 points from 28.7 percent in 2004 to 31.3 percent in 2008."
So, they PREDICTED it might be, and it wasn't FOR REPUBLICANS (cause they undoubtedly were depressed going into this one) but it WAS a record for Democrats.
And so the media made a PREDICTION which didn't through...where exactly did hyperbole and "truth" come into this again?
Not me. I'll ALWAYS give you shite for locking down threads, bro!
Bullshit. See below.
It's called taxation WITH representation and it has been the way of this country since it revolted against England for taxation WITHOUT representation. If you don't like the fact that this country spreads the wealth around a bit, you are welcome to leave.
After all, every other country...oh wait...every other country spreads the wealth around MORE than we do. It's why they have longer life expectancy, health care they can count on, take care of their mentally ill so they don't go all postal on our children in college or high school, etc.
So, you've exercised your position with your vote. The American way. And I voted to help those less fortunate, amounting to a 2% shift in taxation for upper income earners...LIKE MYSELF. I didn't find it unreasonable at all. After all, I've been rich and I've been broke before. I remember both very well, thank you.
So, in four years, feel free to vote for the more selfish, less generous, candidate or party of your choice.
I lived in the Netherlands on an exchange student program in college. It was AWESOME. Very nice people.
I'm totally staying out of the Australia sub-thread. All the Aussies I know are good friends in the movie biz or VERY lovely young ladies.
'nigh neverending' - not bad. You may have a shot at Poetry Secretary.
But I'm still a little worried about your reading comprehension.
One day, you will know my poetry.
It's not the same sort of immigrant as they were back then...those people were proud and greatful to come here...learn the language...and worked their asses off to actually earn a living and contribute...not this new class of immigrant that wants everything for free while they run around with extremely bad attitudes thinking we owe them something. And raise generations of kids on welfare and don't even attempt to learn our language or get a job. Maybe not where you live...but they do here. I was born and raised here....so I'm well aware that we are all born from immigrants. It's just that the class of immigrants has changed for the worse and the doors have been widened way to much. How about we just knock down the walls completely? And I'm sorry...but it's NOT the 1 America "I" remember.
Maybe...maybe not...time will tell...the kettle is already starting to boil with this last election. I'd like to think not....but the face of this country is changing more and more each day...and not in good ways. And thats not ridiculous....thats a fact.
Good examples! And I wasn't suggesting we had daily riots. And I didn't say we would...I said I wouldn't be surprised. Where I live you used to be able to walk through town without so much as the slightest thought you could get shot or robbed...those days are long gone...I won't even drive through town anymore. All anyone has to do is yell police brutality around here after knowningly breaking the law and stores and homes are destroyed or someone gets shot. I don't know where you get fearmongering out of that?
k10w3 yeah, I think its ok for me and my family to be safe and fed, Ive worked for that, I also give to charities that help kids who aren't fed.
Please don't quote me if your going to spout freakin garbage in reply.
If this thread had been a breath of fresh air to you, you have my pity.
What the hell, let's go for 1k.
You have to be one of the most ignorant people to post in this topic so far. And for the record, try comparing Bush to something that actually sucks, yet again your ignorance is shown. I'm almost sympathetic to you.
I honestly feel sorry for some of these people. The amount of utter ignorance is appalling.
And vStyler, how dare you want to feed your own family and not my family as well! I am truly sickened by this attitude!
Uhm, no?
Well, I'd say the air just went a little sour for me. I'm done.
All immigrants are proud and GRATEFUL to come here. It's why they do it. Some, like myself, take years as a legal immigrant to finally get to proudly take the citizenship test.
And they all learn the language, not often in the first generation, but by the second. By the third generation, they are part of the American tableau.
So WHICH immigrants are the problem then? Are you saying all the Asian ones? You know the Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese aren't hard working? I guess they are getting those good grades and engineering degrees by osmosis...
Or are you claiming the Latino population is the problem? Which would that be, the Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Guatemalans, Nicaraguans, Brazilians, etc?
Or maybe it's the African-Americans? And which would those be? The ones we brought here against their will as slaves, or the ones who saved decades of wages just to give their children a chance at the American Dream?
Your words could have been cut and pasted right out of the 18th and 19th century bigots who said the same thing about the Irish, Polish, German, etc. immigrants.
It was as ignorant and ill-informed then as it is now.
Guess what? YOU don't get to define what an American is. Our Constitution does.
Our country ALWAYS changes. It adapts. It's WHY our Constitution is so brilliantly constructed with checks and balances meant to correct with the changing times while still maintaining core universal truths and human rights.
All you are really saying is that you feel the country is changing in a way that is DIFFERENT than the way you'd like it to.
And as for me, I think it's finally changing in a way that I am very proud of.
Actually, you seem to be regurgitating nothing but insults with no opinions supported by facts whatsoever. You are a late comer to this thread, but if you scroll back, you'll find plenty of facts with citations to challenge.
Otherwise, I have to to take your posts as simple, childish flame bait. Which means I will get neither offended, nor leave this thread.
Clearly, your debate skills are formidable!
Really? That's ironic, from where im standing you seem to be doing that exact thing.
Sounds like someone need's to read up a bit more, I've got a post right on the first page. If anything you are the late comer. Not that it really matters, right?
I'm not trying to flaim bait anyone, and if I was you'd be called something far more insulting when compared to Ignorant. I mean.. comparing an operating system to a President? I have an idea, im going to compare Obama to Homeland Security. Incase you don't get that, I'm calling him a joke.
Short, simple and right to the point. Whats not to like? Or perhaps you just aren't used to those type of answers. Maybe I should have responded to it with an indirect question and or answer of my own, would that be more to your liking?
And you're right back to "I'm rubber and you're glue." Again.
I guess the joke was over your head. To make it REALLY simple, I was pointing out that 64 bit operating systems can address BIGGER NUMBERS, more memory, etc. So a 32 bit OS couldn't count high enough to keep track of Bush's gaffes. I hope you understand it now, though I assume the humorous moment is now lost.
So, do you have ANY point to make on any of these topics? I am calling you out on this, because I have already proven that I am actively participating in the debate, not just hurling childish insults. I continue to discuss these topics in the many sub threads here, but all you seem to be doing is the old "I know you are but what am I?" and "I'm rubber and you're glue."
Calling someone ignorant and then not even participating in the discussion would indicate you actually don't have anything particularly useful to say. Feel free to cogently address, with supporting facts, any of the other topics being discussed in this thread.
If you can, of course. Otherwise, you're just trolling or cheerleading, neither of which are actually contributing.
PS 'Tude does not equal intellect. Just an FYI there.
