Every day I visit tons of website, forums, and social networks for all types of topics, most of which are technology based in some sort of form. This election cycle has really brought out the best of the liberal “group think” mentality regarding Obama. On just about every social network Obama is praised as “the one” and any hint of disagreement with his policies or ideals is immediately responded with accusations of racism, or just plain insults. Anybody who wants to claim that liberals are tolerant to others, please give me a shout because I can quickly debunk that. Even here on our network of sites, there have been insults tossed at the slightest hint of either supporting McCain, or being against Obama. I’m certainly not saying conservatives don’t dish out their fair share, but the mentality of liberals has once again bordered on the insane and hateful.
It’s tough being a proud conservative, as I will say what I think regardless of what the group and mob mentality is. The real shame is so many people, especially bloggers in the tech area, are afraid to do the same. I have received so many private notes and comments in support of standing up for conservatism, it’s almost crazy. The best comparison I can make is how conservative actors in Hollywood are often ridiculed or turned down for roles because of their conservative beliefs, and the same mentality is going on right now in the blogosphere. Conservative bloggers, some of which can be considered A-list are having to remain silent about their thoughts on Obama and McCain, simply because they are afraid of retribution from their employers or just not being able to pickup work from other sites. It’s a shame, and it’s more telling about liberals than it is anything.
I am a conservative, I don’t like Obama, and I will never let anyone intimidate me because of that.
Interesting figure.... what is your source?
Whenever I see something like this stated, I have to challenge it.
I bet you no one favors Obama over McCain except locally in the US with regards to U.S. voters.
The world probably does not favor one over the other - why would they?
damn double replies...
I'm only counting Iraqi casualties since the invasion, since the numbers in the original email quoted in this thread compared American casualties in Iraq to the murdet list in Chicago, convienently forgetting that American lives aren't the only one being lost in Iraq .
To answer the Saddam Question. America didn't seem to care so much when they hung the Kurds out to dry at Gulf War 1. and the ..12 years between the end of GW1 and this war. so why did America have to wait untill 2003 and then make up shit about 'ties to 9/11' and 'Mobile WMD factories' and shit like that to get America into this war?
perhaps it should.
Perhaps the stupidity that is JU crossposting should be stopped too.
DO you know how to tell the truth? Apparently not.
DId not create Saddam Hussein (that would be stretch even for a loon).
Pushed Saddam out of a soveriegn country (I guess you answered my previous question - i.e. if they are not Americans their lives are worthless).
Must be chinese now since they got the oil contract.
If you are going to post like an idiot, do it on an idiot web site, not here.
selective memory...America was the only one protecting the Kurds after operation desert storm. We drew a line in the sand and sent in our aircraft to chase Saddam's forces back across the line.
If you had actually been paying attention prior to GW2 as you call it, it was Saddam's refusal to let inspector's in to meet the obligations of Desert Storm surrender that led to the invasion. If we could have proved there were no WMD's via the AGREED TO inspections GWB would have been unable to gain congressional support for any action in Iraq
interesting.... http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/31/obama-plane-pitches-reporters-mccain-endorsing-papers/
Not even in your wet dreams. The "reputable" ones put it at a 3-7% race (about right). It will probably be in the 3-5% range on the win side. Still, it shows that you dont know what you are talking about.
A proper rebuttal has facts. SO far you have none.
So you are proving yourself the fool. Guess what? The world is not China and Europe.
I would guess you are young with mush in your head filled with a bunch of hippie teachers. So far, you have gotten nothing right (oh, and check out the article where the courts stated Wikipedia is not an authoratative source).
Nixon got us out of JOhnson's war. SO you were wrong when you made the statement and you are wrong here. NO guns to heads. Just a very perverted view of history.
Wrong all the way around! He did nothign in conjunction with JOhnson, the french were long gone when Kennedy got into it.
I take it history is not your strong point. But unfortunately for you, history will show you how myopic and wrong you are.
You dont read much do you. Care to reread the part you quoted and then ask a germaine question (or give an intelligent statement)?
I am not asking America, I am asking you. And dont forget who was president when those Kurds were hung out to dry.
SO are some people more equal than others?
You obviously don't , because this line of discussion STARTED when someone posted an email comparing American casualties in Iraq withe the murder rate in Chicago. Comprehension isn't your strong suit. How about you come back after you reread the thread?
Yah , Bush Senior.
Can't believe I missed this one........
I remember sitting in line to buy gas which had double in price in the matter of a few months.
I remember that the person on food stamps could eat steaks and roast while a middle cclass family could only afford hamburger helper.
I remeber seeing old people on fixed incomes eating cat & dog food to survive and freezing to death in unheated apartments during the winter because they could'nt afford the gas bill.......but as usual liberals want to rewrite history......
and I remember working more overtime than I ever did under Reagan, Bush, or Bush.
I don't remember ever waiting in line to buy gas here (I was actually old enough to drive 30 years ago) but the gas lines elsewhere were due to OPEC and their embargo. That wasn't Carter's doings.
I remember my dollar going further to buy groceries for my young family when Carter was President than it did under Reagan, Bush, and Bush.
Like you, it upsets me when I see people on food stamps and such eating better than I do. I'm going to let you in on a secret here: it's happening today, too!
My grandparents weren't eating cat or dog food although I'm sure some people did just as some people do today.
I'm positive some people suffered tremendously when Carter was our President but there are people who are suffering now, too. People suffer no matter who is in office!
On a side note, I absolutely LOVE how people far too young to have known ANYTHING about raising a family or working for a living when Carter was in office telling us who were doing those things that WE need to remember what it was like back then. So far, I've seen a 21 year old kid who wasn't even a glimmer in his parents' eyes when Carter left office and a 34 year old man who was SIX years old when Carter left office telling me and others WE need to remember a period of time! NEITHER of these people have ANY knowledge of what life was like then.
Also, I deeply resent ANYONE insinuating I am not a productive member of society just because I am disabled and do not pay taxes. I've done more good for the youth of my community then virtually any of the elitists calling me a "non-productive member of society" do for members of their community. I started working part-time in a bank when I was 15. Is it my faullt my health is such that Doctors do not allow me to work today?
Fuck it , I'm done.
Island Dog. The Internet is what it is . This thread didn't change my mind one bit and is so off the original topic , it should be locked .
All this thread has proved is that anything can be twisted to suit an agenda on both sides. I'd love to critically think about this but it's difficult.
Good luck on November 4th, America,
just wanted to add one about the Carter years.........maybe slightly off-topic
The biggest thing I remember about that time....... America was ashamed of itself and we were ashamed to be American.
I was in the Navy during Carter and Reagan......maybe that's why I remember it that way.........the change that came with Ronald Reagan was immediate and substantial.........
You know.......... during the Reagan years the liberals said much of the same thing about him as they say about GWB........can't rewrite his History
Right on!!!!!
Our years and experience count, and the younger "Ideologues" lack the humanity to realize that....but that's always the case with self-righteous Idealogues.
So you marry some guy and pay his way and now your the savior of the Indian Nation?
How do you know that?
Wait, people actually think Carter was a good President? Correct me if im wrong but the guy did absolutely NOTHING while President. As a matter of fact I'm pretty sure I had read that he defines the word nothing. Other than trying to push for solar energy the guy sat around and twiddled his thumbs all day. I don't know what Carter you people may be talking about but the Carter I've read about was a failure at leading everything.

that's just it, steve. you READ about it! i LIVED it! you talking like you know anything at all about what it was like under the Carter administration is like me talking about life under the Grover Cleveland Alexander administration. unless you lived it and can speak of it with actual knowledge, shut up! oh, and by the way, half the stuff Reagan took credit for in his first term (especially in the military field) was started while Carter was in office.
If it were not for folks different opinions and versions of history these forums would be a very dull place to visit. Keep up the good work.
Oh, and my personal opinion, attempting to rehash the past and rewrite history does nothing to improve the future.
Just remember, today is the yesterday that we will talk about tomorrow. So just do your best and don't worry about it.
Is that the 'new' free speech?
Civility means a polite and respectful tone in discourse.
We elders should demonstrate it for the young: "shut up!" isn't civil.
Whether you were there or not, civility means "Listen respectfully and answer the same way." Experience counts but ideas (new or otherwise) shouldn't be quashed without consideration.
I'm disappointed in the lack of respect and civility.
Well we have made it to 15 pages, and for the most part it has remained civil, but many of the points I have made were validated in some form or another in this thread.
Unless your talking about Sarah Palin, ain't that right Sawbones?
Actually, history has already proven me right on all these points. I only chose Wikipedia as a simple enough for anyone to understand example. This is why I left the CITATIONS and footnotes in. But did you both to check any of them? Or are you just going to pretend that all of those reputable sources, often quotes from the very same people we are debating here, are wrong?
How far is YOUR head in the sand?
And again, I included citations and quotations. Where are yours?
