I think the tile is discriptive enough.
But for those of you who like to be specific ....
What new features do you want to see in Gal Civ 3?
Is there something that you want to see from Gal Civ 1 or Gal Civ 2, only you want it to be better?
Do you want it to have Real-Time, Control Your Warships, Space Battles?
Etc.....
So please respond.
ROCK ON!!!
Usually when a game is in development there's some kind of press release.
I didnt read all 53 pages but some good and great ideas were there.
I would like more hulls in the generic extras section, more race pics and logos.I like the pirates as a more potent force in the galaxy perhaps with a pirate starbase thats fully moduled and rising and falling amounts of ships. The espionage needs work so you can place a spy for spying without placing it on a enemy improvements just to gather info. Also I would suggest that the tiny and small hulls have their sizes nerfed by 50% at least as the difference between them and the medium hulls is very noticeable.
Minor races should have all the planets of their system colonised at start so you have to declare war to grab one of their planets rather than influence hug them to death.
Formations for space combat and replace the ground invasion pics on ToA with a short video sequence like on DLs intro with the troops running about but in actual combat including tanks etc
And most important a definitive answer as to whether GC3 is actually gonna be made or not?
As a really newcomer to this game, and even as a rookie Civilization clayer, I always feel like no matter what I do the computer player always has the upperhand. and I can't help but think that the computer is cheating some how. (even when the game promices that it is not.)
In Gal Civ 3, I would love to see a turn-by-turn spectator mode, that allows me to analize EVERY SINGLE ONE of the computer players moves
-what it's building on its worlds
-what it's building in its starports
-how its balencing its budget
-what its reserching
-what its diplomatic desisions are
-what its EVERYTHING!
I want this so I know what its doing without the fog of war getting in the way, and hopefully....Learn what i'm doing wrong.
Also, another thing I HATE about these games is that no matter what I do, the computer player always wants to go to war with me even though i'm not even in the lead, and never antaganized them at all.
the 2nd thing I want to se in Gal Civ 3 is the abillity to turn off the computers abillity to declare war. that way, they can only go to war when I feel like doing so.
and thats my 2 cents.
A88mph if you create custom races to fight against you can determine for them how aggressive/likely to declare war they are 50% or less on the slider and you should have a more peaceful game.( I learnt the hard way! I cranked the sliders upto 75% and found everyone declaring war on me everyother turn!)
Seems to me that since you are too weak, they have judged you to be fresh meat for roasting and decide to roast you!
You're new, yes? If you are weak, then the AI will get you!
1) The computer is only "really" cheating in one respect:
It knows where all the habitable planets and starbaseresources are. Getting a properly working exploration modus going for an AI that actually resembles what an experienced human would do is very very difficult. This is compensated by the fact that the AI will build scouts, and too many of them too generally (costing production and upkeep), while the human player will explore with his/her colony ships.
On levels above "Tough" it will furthermore start receiving boosts to its production, research, economy etc., but it doesn't create production out of thin air, it still needs to build the buildings, increase the population etc, they are just more effective. This is not really cheating as the computer doesn't do things that are "impossible", it just becomes more effective to givet he experienced player a (much) harder time.
2) The problem is exactly that you AREN'T in the lead militarily. The AI judge diplomatic relations by a variety of factors, an important one is their assessment of whether or not they can take you in a war. The weaker you are militarily, the more likely the AI will try to pry planets from your cold, dead hands to bolster its own empire. The AI is trying to win just as much as you are, and picking on weak civilizations (such as a demilitarised player) can be an important part of that. Furthermore, just your existence can be "antogonising" to the AI, through mismatched ethical alingments, close borders or a weak diplomatic skill on your part, it can grow to hate you, even if you've done nothing actively to upset it.
3) I'm all for more options, but making it impossible for the AI to declare war, really does take the I out of AI. What's the point of having opponents if you're the one that decides you're ready to crush the AI at last? You can, however, mess with the likelyhood that the AI will declare war, and unlike stated above, you do not have to create whole new custom races. You can very easely customize the standard AI races, by editing their files in game. Simply start a new game, select the opponents you want, and select each of when, and then choose "edit". One of the things it will let you change, is the AI aggressiveness. This will have a huge impact on their thirst for blood.
Making it easier to see what the AI is doing if you so please, can be interesting, especially for the modding community. But I don't know anything about GalCiv2 cheats, so perhaps there is already an easy way to do this without needing to explore the enemy territory and spying (or switching seats).
Here's a feature that is... well, trivial, but missing in GC2.
You see how you have a nice little shield symbol on the planet screen that tells you that the planet is defended? Well, what it doesn't tell you is the combat strength of the defenders. You could have a wet noodle in orbit and technically your planet would be defended, but not for very long against determined attackers.
So I would like to request that if this carries over to GC3, it should have a colour and/or intensity that changes according to the strength of your defences, but also according to the escalating arms race in the galaxy. Instantly, on the colony manager for instance, you can see which of your planets are being defended by obsolete ship models, 'cause those will be the ones with the red 'we are so dead' shields.
Post that to the new forums yo! GalCivIII is about to be a thing!
