I've been gasming for the past ten minutes. Theres a huge artcile and 10 mintue video on Gamespot and an article on IGN.
Let's hope it doesn't suck as Galaxies [supposedly] does.

AWESOME!!!!!!!
This one I have high hopes for, given that it's coming from BioWare. Granted, MMOs are a different beast than single player RPGs, but BioWare seems to be planning around that pretty well, given the article on IGN. I particularly like the "each class has their own story arc"
Well who knoews. Spore looked really damn good. Then it seemed like EA stepped in and said "Nononono, make it 10 times more cartoony. Remove all the blood. Remove the cool concepets. Lets put in gay DRM too."
So who knows, we could be shelling out a monthly fee while EA does us up the butt.
But god I hope not. I need a new MMO.
With BW behind the title and pretty much a free hand things should be great. I'm concerned due to the EA merger however. It seems that BW is changing and going to the darkside as a result.
I'm not the biggest of Star Wars fan by any means but it is very interesting to hear about. The last MMO for SW was a skin over EverQuest and poorly managed Jedi powers and accomplishments.
The one question that is most important to me over other when it comes to making a MMO game on this story. What reason will they give us to play anything other than a Jedi or Sith? Unless it is Han Solo (and I don't mean smuggler) I don't wanna be anything other than a Sith.
ME too. i have already signed up for the Sith faction.
On a side note, I so wish SD would develop a MMO title. Hell it would be neat to see a NMoM title like that in the near future - hint, hint...
Oh HELLS yes. I'm totally excited.
I'm a little worried that one of the SOE guys is a big name in the new development. I never played SWG, but I heard many horror stories.
And those stories IMHO were very true.....

And before you start saying, it looks cartoony, it looks like WOW, just remember that NONE of the pics are final, they are in early development, its pretty much just concept, expect it to change ALOT.
But from listening to the pod cast with them saying "SWTOR has more content then all Bioware games put together" really gets me jumping. Honestly we got atleast 2 years more before it can even be considered close to being done. I'd rather have this game not come out at all then come out broken.
If this game succeeds and I have all the faith in Bioware that it will, it will most likely give WOW a hard time to compete, I hope so, WOW is a disgrace.
They call it "styilised realism" errr that means low quality blurry textures right? It must do because mass effect had some very blurry, low quality textures and that looked ok. They want this mmo to run on everyones PCs though, so that means take the lowest PCs wow is played on and make that the standard I guess.
So many questions about player intergration and mechanic design that will have to be answered still. Truly only time will tell weather bioware are truely talented or just another MMO profit dreamer.
(and yes SWG is horrid, it DID (not anymore) show that that not all 'content' had to be big monsters though).
even though i am very excited about this game..like we know, Galaxies sucked, and WOW has had it's day (not that i thought much of it anyway) i still would have prefered KOTOR3.
Given that seems more and more likely a pipe dream i am more than happy to except this instead.
I'd say at least 12~18 months before we see a beta though....
Well, SD does have an MMO in the pipe (Societies), but last I heard it's on a bit of a hiatus until they get more game devs to do it justice.
Yep I remember it well and like you have not seen anything about it is some time. I was sort of hoping that the NMoM and Societies projects ended up getting merged.
Haven't yet read the whole text but... this is gonna run down WAR and will be WoW's worst rival...
Looks good so far
I haven't read the Gamespot article, but the IGN one talks a lot about how they are approaching development and transition from single player RPGs to MMOs while trying to preserve the feel. If they manage to do it well, it has extremely good potential. They say they've had writers working on it for years already, which is reassuring because let's face it, not all the Star Wars stories written for games were good
It's still a long long ways off and it's way too early to guess how good it will be, but it definitely has good potential.
Meh. It's really too far off for me to be excited. I'm not usually a big fan of mmo's, but this may be my first.
I don't think that a majority of the Warhammer people are SW people as well. I think a major section of WoW is but that is just based on sheer volume.
Sad to see another good franchise become a worthless gamer-milking machine
WAR has PvP players in the bag, doesn't sound like KOTORMMO is going to pull that away.
Would've preferred KOTOR III with internet multiplayer storyline, not as another MMO. Most people can only sink 15 bucks a month into one of those things without feeling dirty.
Speaking of WAR I can't wait for the Warhammer 40,000 MMO (I have the models, DoWs, and plan on getting DoW II. Its probably my second most favorite sci fi universe, behind star wars (OT....) of course).
EDIT: So I signed up on their forums. REALLY stupid that you can only have letters in your name. Anyways my name there is Iziz (it was a Jawa in KOTOR and a city in KOTOR II).
Warhammer 40k MMO comes out, I'll be playing it for sure, especially if Mythic does it like they've done WHFantasy.
Totally be rolling a Tau.
FOR THE GREATER GOOD!
Assuming Tau come out in the initial release and not in an expansion.
The Space Commies and their pope always get left out.
I think a heavy focus on story and the RPG elements, especially regarding RVR will make SWTOR a worthy title. If they go PVP, without a killer system in place as the main focus, I think it will fail.
Well story wise, there is no shortage of material for the devteam to draw on so they have much to work with, and alot will be expected of them too.
I think as long as there are a few devs from KOTOR in the team, andIIRC there was, then they should be on the right track.
But like you say, a soft attempt with PVP and the game will tank like SWG.
