GO Wild with any ideas of map interface changes!!!
Yes I was thinking of this too. If you controlled all the planets in your system and there were enough planes and you had enough metal you could build a Niven ring around your star. It would be able to support a huge amount of population though you would not be able to mine it but, with all those credits you would be able to buy all the metal and crystal you needed. It could also have a large credit bonus from tourism!
Samurye.
Sorry my mistake!
You know you could have edited it before somone else posted
Well you wouldn't need to actualy have a ringworld to colonize, I would be happy to just see something else in the background rather than the usual backgrounds.
Obviously space is the background to use, I just want to see something more interesting from time to time.
Like a massive black hole slowly devouring a galaxy, or some massive quasar burning in the background. Or a massive ringworld orbiting a nearby star.
well don't get me wrong but personally I think 7 deadly sins isn't the best mod around. First i, second it's a mod so noone plays it online and versing comps is just, well, boring, third I hate the idea of colonizing stars, fourth moons are just as useful as rings are since you can't upgrade tehm individually etc, fifth
1. It slows down my computer like **ck (not sure about other peoples computers though)
2. It's a mod so no one plays it online and versing comps just sucks
3. I personally hate the idea of colonizing stars (others may like it but I don't)
4. Moons are almost as usefull as stock planet rings are since you can't upgrade them individually or even click on them... (I know they add a planet bonus but face it, did anyone who wanted moons want them in that format?)
5. Races are extremely incomplete and bad (I know they are races in the making but making is the key word, you don't include unfinished mods in your mod, if anyone from 7DS sees this take a look at the XIN mod by ManSh00ter)
6. Some planets are very unrealistic ex, old naval base, urban planet (think about it urban planets are kind of unnatural since they are just depleted of nature and instead filled with thousands of cities, does nature make cities)
Once again don't get me wrong 7DS is a great mod as it adds plenty of awesome features such as blackholes and new star types but some ideas it has are just stupid and others incomplete...
XselenS: I respect your opinion, but I want to point out a couple of things to you about 7DS.
You might try lowering your graphics settings a little. That usually helps a little.
There are actually quite a few people who play it online. They just don't do on the Sins server. They have another server (sorry, I can't remember the name) that they use for online games.
I think that moons would do more if it were possible to. Currently, I believe that there are hard-coding limits that limit the amount of functionality that they can give to moons.
Keep in mind, the current release versions of 7DS are Betas. They are not meant to be finished. But trust me, when they are, they are going to be amazing.
As Samurye said, they aren't nesiccarily natural. They could be abandoned by the TEC.
I'm not sure I would call it map interface, what I am about to post, but since the topic was handled fairly laxly anyhow, I'll drop in some ideas to improve the interface:
1) I would like a 'minimis all' button or hotkey which enables me to shrink to whole empire tree to just planets. that way I can get to a more streamlined version more quickly and get a check on where friendly and enemy forces are currently. its also possible through the map, but why not, it probably would not take a huge implementation effort and could come in handy.
2) a little icon in planets to indicate production capacity at a glance. sure, you see it once you select it, but browsing through several planets it would still be nice to have see a little hammer in the planet and know 'good, I have a resupply base here'.
3) now that is more extensive, not immediate and more of a bonus. however, I would like more options to arrange the empire tree as I want. to move planets up and down, to display only certain types and not others, to range them according to a few criteria like tax income, construction capacity. or even free slots. it may or may not involve much effort to do it, but the result would be powerful indeed. imagine the capabilities of a spreadsheet programm with the instant access and overview you currently have with the tree.
You'll like Entrenchment then shipmaster_voro
Wait, there are going to be more new ships in Entrenchment besides the torpedo frigate? You had said earlier that the Vasari and Advent wouldn't necissarily be getting new ships to counter the new defences. Can you give us a hint as to what the new ships are? Please?
Ahhhhh then that would ruin the fun of a new expansion!
But its so close to coming out, and news has totally dried up about it. I just want to see one or two new things so that my excitement levels stay where they are. There aren't any other games that come out soon that I'm excited about besides Entrenchment, so Entrenchment must fill the gap.
yep thats true i do want more ships
I was doing some image searching of old SoaSE images and came across this web adress some of the images are repeats:

That second picture you posted is the Beta version of the Kol Battleship. I don't know what the first one is, but I would asume that it is also from the beta.
It might be interesting with "hazardous outposts research" to place hangers/liveable space stations(not battle one's) into orbit of gas giants and magnetic clouds or plasma storms. Each type could have a different research type, Gaseous Research for toxic gas planets, Magnetic Research for toxic magnetc clouds, and Plasma of course for Plasma Storm's. Either that or add, and it might be fun to add it to the others anyway, a Terra-Forming research, if they had the animation, of course it would be cool to see it turn from Gaseous to Terran-like after a suitable time of course, maybe 5 game minutes?
Anyway, just some ideas.

Are these game play suggestions we are talking about or interface suggestions? If the first, everyone has already mentioned mine, and as for the second, i think a minimal ui, which of course has been modded, and there is the possibility of the control-shift + z to get a "clean" interface. the information is gone, but the movement controls are still functional. Anyway... there are lots of very cool ideas. Im especially fond of the one about moving solar systems.
The first one I think was a Marza Dreadnaught, the only difference is a bigger pyramidal city command structure on top.
I'd almost say that is was the Akkan Battlecruiser. If you look closely, it has biodomes on top of it like the Akkan. Plus, the Akkan is the colonizer/city ship, so the big city on top kink of makes sense.
One change that I would like is unlimited fleet sizes. I think you should be able to command as many ships as your system and (game) income can support. I mean, if you 1000 planets colonized I like you should be able to build as many ships as you possibly can. That's how it would be in thr real world afterall.
Making it unlimited is kinda bad but i have to agree with raising logistics to 3500 points
I would personally like to see some random events occur
like
Phase storms temporarily blocking travel in systems(solar flares could also do this)
or a gaint space monster eating one of the planets
I second that motion! If not unlimited, then really, really huge like the battlewagon mod where you get 10,000 fleet points. I know it is in the battlewagon mod but I'd like to be able to do multiplayer with it.
I very dislike, that the planets stands still in their solar system, they should move in an orbit around their star and not just rotating on one place. : /
The phasejumps would be abit hard to code i guess....but my idea is that the lines only connect planets who are reachable to eachothers without complications (means no other planets or stars in the way). To make it easier for the player it should be also a tab for planets in the menu between the diplomacy, science, blackmarket... tabs in which the player can see details about his planets orbit. e.g. the next planets it will be connected with, with a countdown. The menu could look like this if opened:
[Star 1]
Planet 1
Planet 2
And so on....
[Star 2]
Every species should also have an independent phase connector (like the phase stabilizer of the Vasari). The Vasari should get that research earlier due to the fact that they are phase masters.
And if you click on the planet in that menu, more details pops up in another window, like detailed diplomacy and loyality informations, additional planet upgrades,....
this extra menu could also be reached if you click on the planet in the galactic map (just as if you want to place a space station), then you'll see a button in the upper menu which opens the detailed menu for the planet.
Proportions of space objects (stars, planets,..) and technical devices (ships, bases,..) could be abit more realistic. Means planets and stars have to be bigger.
But also limited units or bases that are bigger would be awesome. Like units with the ability to hardly demage or even destroy a planet (like the Death Star from Star Wars). This units should be limited to one for each player and should move veeeery slow, also the ability of destroying planets should have a veeery long cooldown time. Those super units also should take alot of fleetspace, so you would have to chose between big fleets with alot of ships and cruisers or a few super units and less big fleets, because the superunit needs a big crew (like 100 fleetpoints and 5 captains). To balance this hyper unit, counterunits, who are specialised to destroy that big bad units, should be included.
Also moons would be great! And more types of spaces objects...our real solar system has more planet types than the whole game
Moons could be used as extra mines or moonbases to improve credit, ressource and diplomacy rate or such....
The research tree should be enhanced to 10 for each species, just adding two new research steps to get the superunits and the planet destroyer ones (for ALOT of credits and ressources).
....just a few ideas which would make the game epicly perfect.
a big shame that i have no clue about programming
